In the case of a home invasion, wouldn't it make more sense to quickly put on a helmet over a plate carrier, of you only thought you had enough time to don one? It wouldnt take that long and if the invader was armed, he would most likely have a pistol so it would provide all the protection you need.
I heard one ex navy seal guy say he would use a ballistic helmet over a plate carrier in most situations and it made sense to me. They wouldnt slow you down as much and they aren't *that* heavy. Am I overlooking something? Everyone focuses on plate carrier but they have a much more limited utility compared to a helmet. Maybe I'm missing something
Checked. Honestly I think the chance of getting domed vs shot in the chest is significantly slimmer. Also I don't have a very big home so if I had to wear something I would choose plates regardless of how much it "slows" me down.
by the time you've put on a PC, the intruder knows you're there and has probably run out the door. that or its feds and you've been flashbanged.
It takes less time to don a plate carrier than to get a pistol out of a lockbox and velcro is only loud coming off, not going on.
>out of a lockbox
almost like you're a fricking moron for keeping your home defense gun locked up in a lockbox.
have fun facing manslaughter charges when your kid shoots himself rummaging through dad's stuff.
or maybe it'll just get stolen in a home invasion that happens while you're out.
Nah, the anons talking about coverage have it right.
Chances are whatever Black person breaks into your house is going to be shooting you from the front. That means you can pretty much ignore all the protection on the back and top of the helmet, all it's really protecting is your forehead and maybe your temples. A headshot is already less likely than center of mass, and if he does shoot you in the head then what are the chances he hits you in the helmet vs blowing through your face?
And a shot to the head is not going to be significantly more lethal than a shot that hits your heart or major vessels.
>by the time you've put on a PC, the intruder knows you're there and has probably run out the door. that or its feds and you've been flashbanged.
Maybe in your shitty shoebox.
>he doesn't have a ballistic shield next to his bed
ngmi
Look at the coverage that tactical yarmulke provides and imagine a scenario where a home invader is going to shoot you there instead of in your face or torso.
I should have explicitly said it but yeah I was thinking a helmet with integrated ear protection and NVG is better than a plate carrier for a random home invasion scenario. And if you're really concerned about being charged because you used a helmet you can always take it off afterwards.
>In the case of a home invasion, wouldn't it make more sense to quickly put on a helmet over a plate carrier, of you only thought you had enough time to don one?
no moron
you think tyrone is going to be more likely to headshot you than hit center mass?
I was never in the military but it seems like a lot of armor is just to give soldier's confidence more than protect them
I know it works but if you don't have backup and someone to render immediate medical aid the utility of armor seems to drop dramatically
>someone to render immediate medical aid
Why do you think someone who's been shot in a plate needs aid?
This assumes the round hits the plate. Hits that aren't to a plate would hopefully not be serious enough to require medical aid prior to the police/EMTs arriving. However if the opponent is competent I suppose they would be aiming where your plate is by default.
it's the exact opposite. You are a colossal moron. Holy shit. What youtube video do all you dumbfricks who spout this exact same video come here after watching?
>I know it works but if you don't have backup and someone to render immediate medical aid
Then a bullet through your chest will fricking kill you in a matter of minutes.
How do you get to be so egregiously fricking stupid that you think protecting your vitals is LESS important when you don't have access to assistance and immediate medical aid? Seriously, please explain your dumbfrick reasoning, I'm sure it's fascinating.
If I had a top quality helmet that also had ear protection and eye protection, then I might consider the helmet. The premise being, I'm the one who's going to be doing the shooting, so NOT raping my ears is pretty fricking important. If there was a partial face shield that covered my eyes down to below my cheekbones and it offered significant protection against general ammo, that would be a huge bonus. All the better if it disrupted lasers so my retinas don't get fried. Optional night vision goggles that could be snapped into place would be another consideration, depending on circumstances.
So, all that might make me put just the helmet on to engage in my home/on my property.
For domestic home defense, I don't need a full plate rig to cover me from all angles. I just need protection from the front. I'd want it to cover my crotch and hip joints, too. Something that I can slip into quickly & quietly like a chef's apron.
Part of the consideration here is if I could make a threat assessment before confronting & engaging. Knowing how many invaders I'm facing and what they're armed with makes a big difference. Security cameras to locate them them levels the playing field a lot. I know my house ... if I can use cover instead of plate, I go with a helmet (as described above). If I can't use cover and face two or more armed assailants, I probably would fair better with something that can stop frontal center mass shots. In that situation, I'm going to be laying down some serious fire, so absorbing a half dozen shots or so probably outweighs hearing & eye protection/enhancement.
Context is everything.
If I had the helm and armored apron, I don't see why I wouldn't have time for both. I could almost put them on simultaneously, less than ten seconds difference choosing one or the other.
Plates are better than helmets because your center of mass is larger. Your head is a small target, but your torso is not, and people train to shoot CoM anyways.
You're just begging the DA to charge you with man slaughter.
Realistically you aren’t going to do this, realistically you’re going to want to get armed as soon as possible and A. Secure your house
B. Call police
In my case, there isn’t even enough distance in my home to justify putting on a plate carrier because doing so would mean being momentary unarmed. I think the absolute most I’d throw on are my electronic earpro which are staged directly by my HD gun.
