I'm assuming some of the urban youth *attempted* to break into my tool shed last night. How should I harden it to make it less easy to break into?

      bolt it through the wood

I just used some long screws reattach the sheet meta for now, but I'll probably add something around the locking mechanism so they don't get the same stupid idea with a crow bar again.

instead of the shitty plywood corners i would cut a plywood or osb board the size of the whole door and screw it all the way around in the wood,
then a few round head bolts through the wood-plywood-metall.

for extra i would drill holes in the plywood and spray a cheap can of spray foam in the cavity that will glue everything together and make it bombproof

Security cams now. They won't help catch anyone or stop anything, but you'll get some fun footage to upload for our entertainment.

Guns if you actually want to stop them. But then you go to jail.

I've thought of that, but I really hate all the stupid apps and the video being stored on someone else's servers. Is there a good system that puts you in more control? I work nights so I'd actually be awake to get alerts.

Just do a traditional cctv set up with PoE cameras and an NVR. Add a couple motion flood lights too if its dark

Also look into a simple magnet reed switch hooked up to a bull horn. When the door is opened, it will sound the horn. Very cheap if youre capable with electronics

I think I'll give that a shot as a quick setup. Thanks for the ideas, guys.

Yeah those window vibration alarms work great too, can put them almost anywhere.
Thought somebody was trying to get into my garage but it was just a raccoon, scared the shit out of him.

Ive replaced a bunch of those when I was in the alarm/security business. If your spending the money on equipment just buy more magnetic door/window contacts and run telecom/station wire or any cheap cable to them. PIR and glass breaks are so fricking shoddy and rinky dink, its tech meant to make boomers feel like were living in the future.

look at Mexico City, copy the anti-theft designs and such that work, remove the "business entry" stuff, thats all you can do really
-problem is those "urban youth" you are talking about are probable someones "RICH butthole SON/DAUGHTER" playing "thug life" in real life, pretending to be gangsta and shit
-guarantee you will get sued and fricked over when they cut themselves on that metal and shit, get gangrene and want to save money having YOUR insurance cover their damages during their break in attempts

Check Zoneminder. I bought a pile of webcams from a tweaker at a few bucks a pop and I'm running them on cheap SBCs (Raspberry Pi Zero W or clones) with Motioneye. All on a segregated network with no internet connection and goes back to Zoneminder on a home server. In some areas where I'll have multiple close together indoors, I put them all on an RPi clone connected by ethernet. It's definitely shitty but way cheaper than 100+ per camera and still on par with old systems in terms of clarity and framerate

I wanted the ability to access it remotely via an ssh connection or something, but I guess that opens up some security issues.

Poe cameras with blue iris on a local machine and port forward for app. Make sure to put poe cameras and iris machine on its own locked down vlan so the chinks can't watch you

        I had a similar problem.
Legit ethernet cameras are $200 a pop
Plug it all into a $200 Synology server.
You now own your footage, have free phone notifications, can stream HD, and video will store as long as your storage will allow.
It can be tricky to run Ethernet, and it'll add up - I lost $200 in a burglary and spent $2,000+ on cameras - but it's cozy to sit in the basement and stare at 9 cameras that go back 2 weeks.

VISIBLE* security cameras. Their job is 30% to record what happens, 70% to scare someone from actually doing it in the first place. Don't get a gay wifi superconnected subscription system. Just get a set online, 4 cameras and a monitoring hub that records and saves.

Smear rubber cement in places where they would want to try and get a grip. They’ll be grossed out.
Also, leave open topped piss jug inside. They will smell it and flee.

I'd get some L angle iron and bolt it through backed by wood or flat metal. Snug up that gap so they can't get the crowbar in. Put some jank looking electrical wires to the handle and a sign "danger of electrocution". don't hook it up ofc. I am fricking surprised as shit that shitty ass lock didn't just pop open. Add a hasp over the L iron and a better lock. Make it look secure so they don't bend up your shit again.

Leave a couple bottles of booze spiked with medical grade laxatives in a cooler nearby. I prefer Equate brand magnesium citrate, 1 whole ass bottle per bottle of booze.

I may just be a run of the mill country homosexual, but wouldn't a power drill with a bit to drill the lock be faster and potentially quieter than whatever they were trying to do?
