I'm a gay moron and I need to buy some over ear hearing protecting for an indoor range. How do I not get ripped off when buying ear pro?

just buy cheap earplugs from the hardware store, they work better than muffs
Unironically, this. I got my first earpro from a "Tactical" store, which were expensive as frick. I didn't realize how shitty they were until I bought my second pair from Home Depot which were cheaper and worked BETTER.
I thought you're supposed to have in-ear and over ear for indoor
you can get away with just good in ear but yeah you should double up this
is what I and 90% of range goers use now, it's the meta
definitely don't just use over ear for indoor
Especially if you want to use lower profile muffs that aren't enormous, you're gonna want to double up.
First post worst post.
Don't get tacticool "gun" special shit unless you specifically need (and are willing to pay a lot for) something like electronic selective blocking. For plain quality muffs just get something from an actual industrial safety product company like 3M. If you're firing a bare gun get the best they've got.
Better still though is to get a suppressor. Then you can get away without needing as much, buttholes around you aside.
This, the harbor freight active muffs have actually been pretty good in my experience
Walker razor and the big jar of foamies they sell at lowes/ace/homedepot/sneeds
crazy in the head crazy in the bed
>enter sporting goods store
>"Hello, I'm looking to buy some earpro"
>staff will show you some earpro, if price is in your range proceed to option A, otherwise proceed to option B
>A) "Thanks, that's awesome, I will buy it"
>B) "Do you have anything in more of a [your price range] range?" If yes proceed to option A, if no proceed to option C
>C) Thank staff member, leave store, go to another store, repeat from start.
>When you have gone through all of your options for sporting goods store without finding earpro you want that's in your price range then
>1) Rethink your price range, if possible
OR
>2) Look at cheaper options/go online
OR
>3) Rethink what you want in earpro
OR
>4) Try to be either a slightly straighter moron, or a more intelligent homosexual, your call.
There you go OP, that should get you through it.

Sound advice
There is a decent difference in noise reduction from small extra cost in over ear hearing protection. I can tell the difference between 31 dB and 35 dB protection. 3M are good.
Just buy Walkers and put in foam earplugs before putting them on. Or don’t be a poorgay and buy Axis electronic earpro. I mean come on, I’m a poorgay and I even have electronic earpro
Axil* not Axis, phoneposter too
If you had an acoustic incident run to a Doctor as soon as you can. The more time you spend with your ears inflamed the more damage you'll have. Stop shooting, hearing loud music, minimize exposure to sound. The Doc will most likely give you cortisone to heal the inflammation. Pray God or Mother Nature that the damage isn't severe or that you don't have ear stroke. Get tested and see a Doc. Now.
That being said, when shooting guns, you MUST double up. Earmuffs and earplugs, plugs under and muffs over. Go with 3M passive muffs (30+ NRR) and 30+ 3M plugs (orange foam ones).

Even for 22LRs?
Yes.
