I've done 1760 with 6.5 Creedmoor shooting with a $600 Ruger American Hunter and a $400 1st gen Viper. I'm on the list and everything. We're in a golden era of cheap but fantastic long distance rifles.
Oh nice, people always seem to go on about creedmoors absolutely needing like a 26" barrel length. It would help for optimal ballistics for sure, but there seems to be a lot of people who can do just fine at long range with 20 "- 22"
With that optic, the reticle covers the entire target. You dont have enough zoom to be able to effectively see a steel plate at 1000 yards with that optic. Your gun is capable, all day long, but your optic and how it is set up, says you dont shoot that far.

I hit 14/15 man size targets at 1000m with my Tikka in 6.5CRM... even did target changes as there were 2 targets next to each other - went kinda "rapid" fire at my last 5shot series

Barrel length can get you better stability, and had value there, but ultimately you add barrel length to increase the amount of powder that you can burn before the bullet leaves the barrel, which is eventually capped by case capacity.
Barrel length is important, but not the only thing that affects distance. It's like saying a vertical grip with a bipod on the front is the best way to keep the weapon stable, when reality is far different.

300 yards is the longest range ive had a chance to shoot from and i can shoot 1 MOA consistently once the barrel is warm, but not hot. I suck and there's nowhere I can shoot because the terrain where I live is all crosstimbers and hills. Further out and I would need match ammo. I just shoot PPU 147 grain M80 and I'm using a Primary Arms 12-50x scope
Having a really big target that's easy to hit isn't a bad thing. I wouldn't use that rifle to snipe anyway. I've been eyeing a Savage 10 that I could pair the scope to and put a 5x prismatic scope on the AR10. Even with a compensator, you're not going to make fast follow up shots with a scope at 50x. 5x you could reasonably aquire your target for follow up shots.
If I can wageslave enough to get the shekels I’ll get a 6.5 in AR-15 style so I can take rapid pot shots at the opps from 1800 yards. For now I’m running an PSA 16inch AR-15 with a 1x8 LPVO and can hit bretty gud @ 600-700 yards /w a Glock 9mm of course.

I have some bad news for you when it's feeding time for a rifle in that caliber...
The issue with an AR10 is that to make follow up shots you need to tune down the gas system, have heavy buffer springs and weights, a heavy barrel, and a good solid bipod. All this needs to be set up at a bench or some other type of emplacement. You're not running and gunning with a 16 pound rifle. A seated position works fine but it's not stable enough for long shots. Reverse prone or prone requires some set up or the gun starts walking away from you.
A long range rifle makes perfect sense for more rural areas--in an insurgency, outranging conventional forces is a major force multiplier for the insurgents, as Iraq/Afghanistan has clearly shown. For any kind of urban engagement, though, you're probably better off with an AR-15. For plain old SHTF (i.e. societal collapse), you're probably best off with a concealable handgun, since you don't want to make yourself a target by walking around with a rifle.
For plain old SHTF, AR-15 is easily going to be superior to a homosexual handgun. Way more damage, way more rounds per mag, almost 3 times as fast, 6 times the range, easier to aim faster

In SHTF terms your firearm priorities should be: >pistol >semi-automatic rifle >.22lr gun >shotgun >bolt action
Things are uncertain and you may have to move around a bunch, maybe on foot. A pistol is great for this. Being around people means you need to blend in and having a file slung over yourself is a great way to draw attention. Even for driving having a pistol on your lap ready to use is easier than a rifle. Semi-automatic rifle next because its obviously the best at overall protection. .22lr gun for hunting small game if you need to hunt. Shotgun next also for hunting but also defense because blasting buckshot is easy to do. Bolt action rifle is really not needed unless you plan on hunting big game or getting involved in conflict. Then if conflict is your goal its easily in the top spot.
An AR pistol would be fine, but the problem is if you had to use it then re-conceal it to get out of trouble you're fricked.

The player focused on maintaining information asymmetry always beats the player focused on firepower. In real independent conflict you won't engage if slightly spooked, likely some well placed noises are all that's needed to herd you around.
.243 is an excellent round for "deer sized" targets. IIRC with a 25m zero you're holding dead on out to 300, it shoots very flat. Bit light for effectiveness at extreme range, but if you can get .243 you should be fine for .270 as well, which is also excellent and fairly flat shooting but has a bit more legs.

Any normal semi automatic rifle with a rail system and lower power optic would be much better than a high power scope on a bolt action rifle in a SHTF scenario. LPVOs are the best choice for the type of engagements you could find yourself in.
Take whatever courses necessary and join a hunting club and buy yourself a rifle and learn and obey all the rules to legally possess it. Be very quiet about it and just keep it around for when and if the day comes that you dread.

300 yards is the longest range ive had a chance to shoot from and i can shoot 1 MOA consistently once the barrel is warm, but not hot. I suck and there's nowhere I can shoot because the terrain where I live is all crosstimbers and hills. Further out and I would need match ammo. I just shoot PPU 147 grain M80 and I'm using a Primary Arms 12-50x scope

Having a really big target that's easy to hit isn't a bad thing. I wouldn't use that rifle to snipe anyway. I've been eyeing a Savage 10 that I could pair the scope to and put a 5x prismatic scope on the AR10. Even with a compensator, you're not going to make fast follow up shots with a scope at 50x. 5x you could reasonably aquire your target for follow up shots.

The issue with an AR10 is that to make follow up shots you need to tune down the gas system, have heavy buffer springs and weights, a heavy barrel, and a good solid bipod. All this needs to be set up at a bench or some other type of emplacement. You're not running and gunning with a 16 pound rifle. A seated position works fine but it's not stable enough for long shots. Reverse prone or prone requires some set up or the gun starts walking away from you.
A long range rifle makes perfect sense for more rural areas--in an insurgency, outranging conventional forces is a major force multiplier for the insurgents, as Iraq/Afghanistan has clearly shown. For any kind of urban engagement, though, you're probably better off with an AR-15. For plain old SHTF (i.e. societal collapse), you're probably best off with a concealable handgun, since you don't want to make yourself a target by walking around with a rifle.
For plain old SHTF, AR-15 is easily going to be superior to a homosexual handgun. Way more damage, way more rounds per mag, almost 3 times as fast, 6 times the range, easier to aim faster

In SHTF terms your firearm priorities should be:
>pistol
>semi-automatic rifle
>.22lr gun
>shotgun
>bolt action
Things are uncertain and you may have to move around a bunch, maybe on foot. A pistol is great for this. Being around people means you need to blend in and having a file slung over yourself is a great way to draw attention. Even for driving having a pistol on your lap ready to use is easier than a rifle. Semi-automatic rifle next because its obviously the best at overall protection. .22lr gun for hunting small game if you need to hunt. Shotgun next also for hunting but also defense because blasting buckshot is easy to do. Bolt action rifle is really not needed unless you plan on hunting big game or getting involved in conflict. Then if conflict is your goal its easily in the top spot.

.243 is an excellent round for "deer sized" targets. IIRC with a 25m zero you're holding dead on out to 300, it shoots very flat. Bit light for effectiveness at extreme range, but if you can get .243 you should be fine for .270 as well, which is also excellent and fairly flat shooting but has a bit more legs.
Everything's good enough for deer. 5.56 will smash a Steer's skull open, a more powerful 5mm round is going to only be better.
People need to stop pretending 5.56 cant quickly kill anything on the continent with the right barrel length and ammunition choice.
