I'm still confused by the apparently bulletproof suits.

The bulletproof suits were such a shit addition to the movies. Ruined any reasonable suspension of disbelief, dropped the tension when you know bullets will just bounce off him, and fricked the fight choreography (which was the best thing about the first movie) because he didn't need to make such an effort to avoid getting hit.

I’m fine with him having thinner body armour if it’s just body armour (still get rekt, possibly broken ribs etc) but allows him to keep the slick look and slim outline
Then it gets to the point where he literally holds the jacket siding over his head to deflect bullets the same way I deflect splash-up from the road with my coat lapels

Agreed. It was a cool addition that explained tanking some gunshots. Then it got incredibly stupid

I don't think top of the line suits will be available for random grunts. I am fine with the suits, otherwise he will have to be anime ninja in open spaces.

I'd argue they could instead give Wick a better version of the ballistic vest he had in the first movie. He can continue fighting after the occasional shot to the chest, and it's still pretty slim and concealable, but not fricking magic like the suits ended up being.

            Anonymous

I have to agree. It'd bd fine if getting hit occasionally with the suit dropped him or broke ribs or something and he has to scramble away and hide for a minuye here and there and maybe pop some opiods or throw on a brace or a splint in the downtime sections but he just tanks rounds like this suit nullifies momentum in addition to catching the bullet.

Plus yeah, you think you'd see more flamethrowers, bombs, and high caliber armor-piercing rounds and less guys running at him with pistols.

The first movie was good. By the middle of the third I got bored. Will probably watch the fourth with friends.

Something like in the first one when he got shot in the vest?

              Anonymous

The first time he uses the suit in second movie that's what happens. Both him and the black dude seem to wear one of those bulletproof suits and both fall flat on their ass. When he gets shot in the catacombs he recoils a LOT too. Later on he gets shot in the back from a dinky little subcompact silenced 9mm and drops to the ground. They clearly stuck to their own movie rule of "sure you'll survive but it'll hurt a lot because you're wearing the softest body armor there is"
By the third movie they forgot.
In fourth movie end scene he takes off his jacket and vest and they added a noise of an entire brass bucket being dumped on the floor to emphasize he's been shot like a hundred times at that point.

Its an action movie not a fricking documentary. Leave you're autism at the door. The dragons breath scene in the 4th movie and the slug shotgun scene in the 3rd was pure fricking kino. The bulletproof suits were totally goofy, but it worked by allowing the actions shots to get more creative combining martial arts with weapons.

There are a billion generic action movies. What made JW1 an interesting concept that rose above the piles of schlock is that the firearms handling was reasonably accurate, even if stylized; combat and bullets were fricking deadly to both sides; and the action scenes were choreographed with these concepts in mind so they were unique and interesting to watch instead of the moronic scenes that happened after the series jumped the shark.

              >even if stylized; combat and bullets were fricking deadly to both sides

its a slower movie was a pretty awful start but Dragged Across Concrete does a good job of portraying gunfights between non-moronic people.

              >concept that rose above the piles of schlock
What set JW above the piles of other schlock was the fact it actually spent more time with the action. Doing long takes with real stunts rather than post-production cut and spliced nonsense that makes most modern action scenes feel like a blur. They also made the plot bone stupid simple and played up the criminal-cult intrigue.

The suits imply there's a realistic explanation to the over the top action. There isn't, even with the suits. Movie asks you to suspend your suspencion of disbelief.

He's right. Trying to justify why he isn't killed when a six gorillion Black folk are shooting at him makes everything feel dumb. It's much more easy to believe they're just not hitting him than anything else.

Some guys made a suit with level 3 woven into it and it didn't look bad, obviously it was more of a "roll a 3+ save your life" and less "immunity to small arms fire"

They do exist albeit they're way more stiff and bulky and only works against handgun rounds (Level II): https://youtu.be/yMsfV1MSCR4
And also way more expensive since It has to be tailored whilst a plate carrier and plate sizes are off the shelves.
It seems like they're most favoured by the Cartel and drug dealer bosses

It went to shit after first movie. First wqs pretty cool action flick that actually spent time doing their homework with fights and managed to make them look good. Second was way worse but the fights were sort of okay aside from the bulletproof suit. It was a gimmick that was really only useful for one surprise shot that would have been stopped by a vest anyway and in the next scene he gets shot in the gut because he doesn't have a vest and the open suit doesn't cover his lower torso.
Third was pretty bad, armored guys were sort of a novelty but got old very fast. I got really confused about asian guys, sure they seemed to be comedic relief, which they had too much but that fight with the two ugly ones was unintentionally hilarious because Wick is on his knees for half of it and they're barely taller than him. It's like good 5 minutes of Keanu Reeves manhandling midgets.
Fourth is terrible. It's genuinely shit. More of magical bulletproof shit, more Japanese wank, more nonsensical plot points and the fights genuinely got boring. Like I had an urge to do something else or fall asleep because the action was just uninteresting. I also wish they actually had some continuity with villains and supporting characters and not just introduce new ones every movie. I understand second movie feeling forced because they didn't plan for a direct sequel after the first one but surely they knew they're going to make a trilogy of new movies and could tie them together better. It's always new bad guy but this time he's even badder than before, new good guy but this time he's even better than before also did I mention he's blind and still the deadliest assasin?

The problem is that the first movie felt relatively grounded, whereas the later movies operate on rule of cool. I kept wondering why multiple groups of apparently skilled assassins kept walking out in the open to reveal themselves to their target, whilst the mobster dipshits from the first film at least understood the concept of an ambush. A $30 million open contract, and yet no-one has heard of a sniper rifle.

It was just so curious to me that at many occasions they knew exactly where he was going but despite showing those huge armories of machineguns and rocket launchers and shit no-one ever thought of just setting up with a machinegun or just any automatic. Like frick, his suit is apparently bulletproof but no-one is going to walk away after being raked head to toe in 5.56. Like, frick penetration power, just shower the fricker with bullets, he's not bulletproof all over.
It's just waves of morons armed with Glocks. walking towards him in a line that has enough spacing that he has to take only one maybe two guys at once.

On the one hand, I can understand avoiding attention and collateral damage by not using heavy weaponry. On the other hand, Wick gets attacked in public places multiple times with zero police response.

I still love the first Wick movie but all the sequels were utter trash

I know that the sequels can't do this since they're already working with an established character, but one thing I loved about the first film is that the first twenty minutes is the slow burn of a grieving but otherwise normal looking man not coping with his wife's death, and the gradual build up of him actually being a frighteningly effective killer.

            Anonymous

            >On the other hand, Wick gets attacked in public places multiple times with zero police response.
Yeah they do not fricking care. The policeman in first move was clearly aware of Wick but I always assumed it was because Wick was a guy who appreciated the value of networking and connections and it was just his friendly neighborhood police officer who knew Wick was a hired killer and he'll be a good influence on the neighborhood as long as he's not bothered when he's working. I mean, Wickverse or whatever it's being called these days now that all the spinoffs have been announced is fricking hilarious in that it seems literally everyone is on it. Like it seems to be this secret assassins organization but every second guy on the street is part of it. There's this scene at the end of the second movie where Winston tells him he has an hour and the entire crowd around them stops and it's supposed to be this show of force but it's just par for the course of course yeah the entire fricking park is just in on it because EVERYONE is connected to the secret hitman organization.

Them constantly raising the contract annoyed the shit out of me. Who is going to go kill him for $30M that won’t already for $10M or 20M? It looks like it’s run of the mill criminals so they really wouldn’t do it for $1M? If John wick is nearly unkillable and you’re risking your life does doubling the contract really change if you’re willing to die for it? It doesn’t make sense to me. Going from $5M to $50M or $100M changes the equation. Bumping it a couple million after it’s already a large amount doesn’t.

my friend has a theory that john wick is dead and he's just stuck in hell, living in a never ending nightmare of being murdered over and over again as he tries to escape, but never realizing he's stuck there forever.

it would explain the cartoonish weapons dynamics and the bizarre rituals i guess

except he dies in that last movie, you tards

Does he really? It looks like that so it ends or there is a successor (the Black person). But him surviving that is the most believable thing from 4

Genuinely confused am I on fricking PrepHole by accident or does /k/ actually know movies and why they seem to be complete ass after the first film

4 was fricking garbage. was checking my watch and it was over half an hour to the first passable fight. 90 minutes of that movie simply didn't need to be there.

god the fricking "lore" is intolerably cringe.

1 took a while to get going as well, but it has the excuse of needing to set up Wick's backstory and reputation, and the plot took a backseat after that setup. 4 fell into the same trap that befalls other action movie sequels, where the writers treat the plot and surrounding lore with far more seriousness than it deserves, instead of recognising that it's merely a framework for stringing together action scenes.

Did it? The home invasion scene where he kills like a dozen guys was kino and I thought that was like 15-20 minutes into the movie

    >it's another "armed, violent criminal henchmen walk slowly towards john wick in a single file line to be slaughtered instead of just shooting him" scene

I'm surprised that at some point, some goon didn't just go for broke and spray Wick while he was tangling with someone else. $30 million or whatever is a lot of money for a bit of friendly fire.

The third movie is where it really jumped the shark, The most egregious part being the special armoured high table soldiers being able to shrug off 9mm like its nothing when theyre not even wearing armour beyond a biker padded chestpiece, and bump helmets. The casual reload while taking fire to the head from the hotel staff to, them being knocked to the ground when John shoots them is comical.
Lance reddick, suggesting some hot 9mm loads to take out troops he knows are armoured is just stupid when they have the 12 gauge AP and guns in .308 in the same room.
