I would much rather have a scar 17 in .308 than a puny .223 caliber ar15

The SCAR heavy is superior in every way to the AR15. If I were a soldier in Ukraine I would choose a scar 17 over an AR15 given the option. You cannot deny that the SCAR is more effective at distance and its an inherently more modular/ reliable weapon system

    Scars eat optics, especially thermals

you gonna get clapped by someone with a 556 and thermals

Not before you get DOMED by the SCAR from 450 yards away with your baby dick .223 pea shooter

you say that as if 450 yards is hard for 5.56

I would say most people on this board would have trouble with a man sized target at 450 years with their PSA budget gat, especially if they're only running red dots.

There is a very well known reason why M14s were pulled from stockpile in the conflict with afghans and it had entirely to do with the poor performance of the 5.56 beyond 250 yards.

This subject isn't about target matches and hitting paper. The idea is hitting a target with intent on lethality or wounding. 5.56 is best kept within 250-300yards weather permitting.

      >Scars eat optics
Is there any proof at all for this

People who put shit optics on their SCARs, yeah. Especially in the early days.

the SCAR in 7.62 does have very pronounced double impulse recoil - 1 from the bolt coming to a rapid stop, one from the bolt going back and locking.

I only know they say the same about FALs, but I haven't had any problem with FALs and optics

There is for cheaper optics and cheaper thermals as some can't handle the quick forward recoil impulse

Why not both platforms? Any kommando worth his salt should be proficient in both .223 remington and .308 win.

Hell, an enthusiast should train with any and all calibers if his budget allows it.

SCAR H in .17 HMR would be a game changer - best of both world cause heavy and you can engage anything with it - from VDV to squirrels.
