I was planning on doing the siding for my Victorian style 1900s house.

I was planning on doing the siding for my Victorian style 1900s house.
But was told by a contractor friend that this is asbestos and needs to be abated if I wanna remove it.
It looks like that wood Masonite stuff but could be wrong. Anyway to tell before I spend the $100 bucks to test it?

Side over it, don’t test it. Ignorance is best.

If you test it and don't remove it, you have to disclose it if you want to sell, since you "know" you have it. Or, you can rip it off and throw it in a dumpster like everyone else.

just tear it off and throw it away. don't ask, don't tell. it's only a problem if you smash it up and breathe the dust.

      How will they know?
If I do rip it off how should I do it so I don't kill myself and contaminate all my equipment and surroundings?

asbestos was a scam invented by israelites just throw that shit away, there are 2 asbestos inspectors in the state of fl who are multi millionaires because only the chosen few can test for it apparently

        Just wear a mask.
And most people who got mesothelioma were exposed to asbestos every day and smoked cigarettes.

They use asbestos in brake pads. If you've ever sat in traffic with your windows down you've inhaled more asbestos than you ever would on any job site. Stop being a whiny b***h

Cats paw on those exposed nails, dig a pit and neatly stack the tiles, pour a concrete pad on top of them.

start pulling tiles.. get a water mister and wet it down prior. find some medium size totes or commercial 4mil plastic bags. put the tiles in it and dump them in random places dumpsters.

    That's asbestos.
If it were me? Get a p100 respirator and rip it all off. Any landfill or transfer station will take it. Just let them know it's non friable. Or just side over it and forget it's there.
If you were rich and dumb? Pay a professional abatement company to do it. They're going to charge out the ass.

Also dust isn't a huge deal if you break it. If you're really concerned wear a disposable tyvek with the respirator and do the whole job with a disposable crowbar. Any dust created will blow away in the wind as long as it's not a perfectly still day.

Is the tar paper under the tile asbestos too?

          Anonymous

asbestos was the shit for almost 100 years.
it can be in everything they used it in pains plaster caulk, tile cement, stoves, tar paper, gaskets, fireproofing. wire insulation.

it can be everywhere or it can be nowhere. without testing its impossible to know.

since silica dust and mice shit or lead paint is toxic to i would not worry that much and war a mask when creating dust while renovating. and use a H-rated or hepa filter in shopvac when using power tools.

oh and the tar paper from 100 years ago was actually made from tar and not asphalt so it contains cancerous PAHs

wear a good mask and remove it without breaking it (if possible)

Watch out for asbestos thieves. They come in the middle of the night, tear away asbestos and take it to an undisclosed location. They are a menace to society.
