I want to add a bit of privacy to a fence in my backyard by adding something along the top. I'm not very handy, and I live in a townhouse complex that has rules and a board of directors for the outside of the property. They aren't too bad, but I need something that looks subtle, maybe something I can remove when I need to remove it and put it back up later. It needs to withstand weather and not be too heavy. I know lattice is what is usually used but its heavy and costly, and will be very noticeable. Any ideas? Maybe to use something unconventional? I was thinking fabric of sorts, but I don't know how too attach it.

T posts driven into the ground, pvc pipes over the top with fabric stretched between them. It's ghetto as heck but you can make it look nice and it's as easy to install and uninstall as possible.

I think that would be far too noticeable, and my entire backyard is patiostones put in by the previous owner, I have no grass or ground.

Planters would probably be the least offensive option. You could basically grow a mini hedge. Another option I've seen people go for is those bamboo fence rolls. They're cheap and wood-colored.

Ontop of a thin fence? Not likely.
      >bamboo fence rolls.
Interesting, does that stuff stand up to weather? Can it easily be cut? Because I don't need alot of height in areas.

I think I've seen ads for fake ivy-covered privacy screens, but you would probably have to screw them awkwardly to the fence to make it even across the top.

I recommend running a wire to hang curtains from. Start at the high point and run it to the end of the first panel. Extend the post with a mending plate with a piece big enough to connect the wire where it will be level with the high point. Repeat for as many panels as needed. Your curtains out of an outdoor friendly fabric and you can make them long enough to run down to the ground or just long enough to go below the fence line. Place a grommet on the bottom corners of the curtains and put hooks on the posts. This way you can open the curtain whenever, but still be able to secure it in place when you want it to stay closed.

      >fake ivy-covered privacy screens
      Could possibly work.
As for hanging curtains, do they even make outdoor curtains?

      line it with bird feeders

No, what a mess, bird feed and shit everywhere.

Just put some metal wire and a vine. Clematis easily grows 8 feet across in a good season

      >Just put some metal wire and a vine. Clematis easily grows 8 feet across in a good season
Likely would not work, no ground near the fence.

Bamboo is pretty weather proof, it'll at least last a while before it needs replacing at the open mat llows air to pass through

good god premade fence panels look like shit
and it's not like you save that much money, the installers still charge you out the ass for that abomination
and then they are pretty much impossible to repair because they are fricking stapled together

get the "bamboo privacy screen rolls" or something similar, with/without fake leaves/shoots
get pot hanger hooks for hanging shit on fences and ledges "J" with the small squarish hooks on top of that J, alot of those that fit your fence
cut that privacy bamboo(or get lucky and order it the height you actually need it at)

more likely you'll get the shortest bamboo privacy screen you can get and get the LONGEST J'd hooks you can find and hook along the privacy screens many tie together points to "peek over the fences edge"

it'll look STUPID AS SHIT unless you have actual bamboo and/or have several different layers of bamboo going off into your property making it "Look like" from a distance actual bamboo

sounds like your townhouse is in a HOA, townhouse complex with rules(kinda standard for multiple people/families living in close quarters/properties) and a board of directors(THIS definitely sounds like a version of a HOA)
just remember whatever you are "hiding" from everyone for a period of time is already KNOWN to your neighbors, if they actually care(most elderly ones with nothing to do WILL CARE because they have nothing better to do, same for "House Wives")

I don't know these hanger hooks, can you give me a visual, like maybe using Paint or something, on how you'd do this?
        >townhouse complex with rules
I've lived here for over five years and have good neighbors on both sides of me, who have lived here longer. We're good.
