Nta but elaborate because even accounting for Afghanistan most firefights happen within 300 or so meters, the firefights like the one you link are arguably aberrations, but if you argue otherwise I'm open to hear it
Most firefights happen within 300 meters. The long range pot shot battles in Afghanistan are not what we're seeing in Ukraine or what we will see in the South Pacific, it's not what we saw against regular army in Iraq, it's not what we saw in Vietnam, and it's not what we saw in WW2. Additionally, in Afghanistan these longer range firefights were always followed by airstrikes. Again: combined arms.
Don't forget that one of the reasons we switched from full sized .30 rifles for infantry down to 5.56 is because after WW2& Korea the US military determined that firefights rarely occur beyond 300m, so the extra range of something like 30-06 isn't needed most of the time.
Combined arms is the name of the game. Pin 'em down with high volume small arms fire, then call in artillery or air support to take 'em out. Artillery has been the primary cause of casualties since the Napoleonic era, and that will remain to be true
guess thats why Germany and the USA are getting DMRs in .308WM or 6.8Fury because they are so happy with the 556
Im not a ballistic expert, but everyone who wants to use 556 for 500m+ sounds like a moron to me
Captcha: DMRWMJ
Had a chance to shoot it for the Schützenschnur (German marksmanship badge), it's a nice rifle. The integrated optics were easy to use, I know some people say it's hard to get a sight picture with the magnified optics but I didn't have that problem. Ergonomics are solid as well, would shoot again
stop bringing your fricking 556 rifle to an indoor range that only goes to 25 yards. what the frick is even the point besides making noise.
citycucks are infuriating
I got to spend a day shooting G36’s with the Germans when I was in the U.S. Army. I really liked it, more than I thought I would. Ergonomics were good, felt very natural to shoot.
The one I was shooting had the integrated 3x (I think that was the magnification) Hensoldt Wetzler, which was not great. I have one of the old Fero Z24 4x Hensoldts for my HK-91 that was made in the 70’s and it’s like 5x better.
If there was a reasonably priced G36 option in the U.S. with a flat top, I’d buy it, not to replace my AR but simply because I love guns.
Mexico is starting to produce a semi auto FX05 for limited civil and security sales and Mexico recently changed their laws so they can export weapons again. That'll probably be the closest you can get in the US.
What's interesting about the SL8 is that the barrel is from the exact same stock as the G36 LMG barrels, left without any special contours. Heavy af but very accurate for what it is.
So did some grunts just get G36s with heavy barrels?

No, these weapons were taken back. Bundeswehr adopted the MG4 afterwards, which is a direct derivative of the MG36

Oh gee I don't know why anyone would believe that the HK123 (MG4) was originally derived from the MG36.

Truly a mystery. Have you ever taken these things apart? The HK123 is nothing but an MG36 with an open bolt. Even the lower reciever and gas system are the same

Maybe don't buy guns cobbled together in a garage using whatever mix of original and reverse engineered parts was currently available.
Looks cool, pretty good (excellent for its time) ergos, actual performance is mid.
It's not HURRDURR MELTY LEGO FISHGUN levels of shitty and unreliable like it's memed out to be but it's still a little too plasticky and flimsy feeling to inspire confidence and the accuracy is only so-so at best, even for the tuned up civvie SL8s with the fancy BBLs and nicer triggers.
There are already prototypes built. I think the hold up is that Mexico is waiting to see if 6.8 Fury becomes more wide spread before going all in on launching another standard issue rifle on a full power round. They are still planning a 7.62x51 machine gun in the same family as far as I know. They are still producing new built examples of the G3 alongside the FX05. Their Marines also want to adopt 6.5 Sneedmoor IIRC.
I think you're sexy
Me too senpai. super stylish gun, gives Hollywood corporate mercenary vibes.
>that handguard
nah son, this is all you need
Not if you want to fight on distances of 400-800 meters.
>of 400-800 meters
>with 5.56
Lmao. It's called combined arms, kiddo; those ranges are for gpmg's and mortars
>of 400-800 meters

Yes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyO-SCiqfx0
You have no idea what distances modern wars are fought at, have you?

No, you dumb ass. Even the full rifle cartridge struggles at 800m.
only sane opinion
We should have bought 416s
who is we?
Lithiums
the Lithuanians did buy the 416
Not that I'm aware of
https://kariuomene.lt/ginkluote/automatiniai-sautuvai/automatinis-sautuvas-hk416/24346
shits in use by the special forces only
We should have bought 416s for the regular infantry
I thought they did
Only for SF and some token ones for Riflemen's union

Can I shoot guns with you? You sound cool.
It'll have to be sometime later, Uncle Sam is keeping me busy at the moment
I like it and its child designs like the FX-05 and the VHS-2
I miss the bulletfish
I think it's one of the most sexy guns out there
But only the short ones and without rails
I've never been to an indoor range. Are those holes in the walls and black spots on the ceilings what I think they are?
Black folk shoot everything but the target. Just about every indoor range I have been too looks like this. Just bigger.

I agree with the OP it’s peak aesthetics.

you know that Tommy Built exist, right?
I wonder if we’re going to see these guns exported to the US only to be trafficked back into Mexico by cartels
>is made of 90% plastic
its shit
with its construction, the thing should cost $500 and be on the shelf next to all the HiPoints.
But enough about the SCAR
Oi, take that back, the SCAR is lovely
It's extruded alu upper with a plastic lower. It shouldn't cost anything near what it does
Isn't picrel technically the G36KA4M1 and the one in OP the M2?
In terms of looks:
German OG > KA4M1 > KA4M2
No. The one in your pic is G36KA4. There's an M1 and an M2 now. They look exactly the same. Don't know what the difference is

MG36*
Did they ever produce any?
Afaik yes. BW ordered ~5000 in 1995 but canceled it in 1997, with the weapon never entering service in any capacity.
So did some grunts just get G36s with heavy barrels?
No, these weapons were taken back. Bundeswehr adopted the MG4 afterwards, which is a direct derivative of the MG36

I think the G36 sucks
Correct.
Oh you used the incorrect ammo weight and powder type? Won't cycle after one mag due to trunion overheating.
Got a Tommy built g36 that does that after a magazine unless you use the exact correct ammo weight. And even then it's a b***h
>the G36 is bad because my homemade one doesn't work
The frick are you talking about

Wait wait. Is that a whole cartridge being ejected?
Have you never seen a 5.56 case before Anon
No.
Yes, minus the bullet
By the way, is that FX05 7.62 still happening?
There are already prototypes built.
