When I move plants from outside to inside I put a layer of sand (clean playsand from box store) over top of the soil and that took care of any gnat problem.
>put a layer of sand
Pretty much this. I also had a vacuum at hand for a couple of weeks, sucked the adults up once they emerged, and therefore no new eggs came once winter rolled around.
These yellow sticky paper traps will work for controlling the adult gnats around your plant, but those frickers lay their eggs in the soil of the plant so aside from keeping your windows closed so no flies can get in and start laying eggs, you need to agitate the soil and spray insecticide containing permethrin. Re apply every few months when they start to appear again.
a neighbor told me sticking a bay leaf in the pot works, tried it and it seems like it worked indeed
from the nazi tier options you have everything the chemical industry can provide you with at the local agriculture store, so good luck
they're hard to get rid of when they start, but i've had good luck just keeping an oscillating fan near my plants. if the top of the soil dries out, they are much less likely to frick with it, and you're much less likely to get fungus in your soil to begin with. if you do any seedlings at home and struggle with damping off, this brought my survival rate up considerably when i was first starting.
cinnamon never worked for me, or anything else. but the fan! i could cry.

I don't smoke but I do enjoy the occasional pipe or cigar and I gotta say, thank frick I don't have an addictive personality otherwise I'd be hooked pretty quick.
identify the source then deal with it
Get some mosquito dunks and drop them into your watering can. Over the course of a few months you will achieve TGD
Total
Gnat
DESTRUCTION
Just beware that you may have more problems with fungus on your houseplants, at least I did
Probably because they were too damp. Same thing that will cause gnat issues.
bottom watering is the true final solution to fungus and gnat. Not everyone has the dedication to do what it takes, however.

That worked on our oldest child, but not so great with the twins.
This. Let it dry out completely, then only bottom water. Problem solved completely.

Hypoaspis
In my experience predators works much better than cinnamon vinegar or whatever household stuff
PrepHole says to go full gnatty

Bottom watering, top soil with perlite, add a fan, those stickys do work, neem oil works. The gnats eat dead plant material and love moisture.
mix vodka and liquid soap with some cayenne pepper in a spray bottle.
spray your plants liberally.
watch the bugs die.
best remedy i've tried.
boil some water and add a handful of tobacco leaves, let it cool and use it to completely soak the soil, gnats are gone the next day.
>tfw some people smoke fricking insecticide.

Jumping spiders.
