I fucked up.
I cut a hole for a low voltage bracket in my apartment and over cut. I tried using spackle to repair the edges but it didn't work.
To make things more complicated there are two layers of drywall for some reason. Is there anything I can do or should I just cut my losses and patch the whole thing?
bonus pic of bracket

Use a utility knife to cut around the oversized opening but cut only through the top layer.
Fit a new piece of drywall of the same thickness as the top layer into the opening using the back layer as the stop/guide.
Cut the proper size opening for the bracket into the new drywall piece before installing the new piece.
Once satisfied with the fit of the bracket, glue the new drywall patch into the opening and finish as you would a regular patch.
Once the repair has cured, install the bracket and complete the installation as if you did it right the first time.
ya you could use some painters putty knife or scraper to fill it it, but anyways. you already made a mess of it beyond what can be hidden behind a plastic cover. cut a better piece of drywall from somes scrap but you probably wont
thanks friend
you're the reason this board is dead. get a lobotomy
this could help:
um just buy a new wall. or why would you want a wall? just knock the wall down
Screw in some backer and patch it. Use your patch to trace the correct size of the box on the 2nd piece of drywall. Float the entire thing and try again.
brah - get a 2 gang low voltage box and cut it just a bit bigger.
Or get an oversized face plate. Either way, go bigger.
>Or get an oversized face plate
came to suggest this. you know what you need to do OP. no need to make the job more complicated than it is.
get a larger box and faceplate
