I don't understand how they were so difficult to deal. They're huge targets, lack ranged attacks, they're fast but not enough to dodge bullets, you don't even to magdump on them. They're easy to spot with thermal and movement sensors, are vulnerable to cold and heat, and despite their supposed intelligence they can be easily lured and flanked. Plus their queen is a giant slow target that's forced to stay still most of the time. Really the only reason why they butchered every single force against them is because they sent idiots with inadequate gear inside their nests in narrow corridors and dimly lit engine rooms. Perfect organism my ass.
>/k/ would shoot this
Yeah. Shoot my seed.
Alienussy
The Xeussy
This game would have been much cooler if the station was huge open world map and the alien/s hunted the crew in real time, it's linear shit.
The only things that got them right was Alien and Alien Isolation. They're a bullet-proof, space-proof, radiation-proof tiger with ape-like intelligence and digitation.
It's the perfect weapon because you can drop a shitload of eggs onto a planet and the infestation will clean up pesky non-company personnel. It's like a perfect genocide button.
It is though. That's literally how the game works. After you complete some objectives, some areas lock themselves, but they all unlock eventually. I recommend playing with an AI mod that removes the moronic tether with the Alien. I get why they put that tether in, because otherwise you'll never run into the xenomorph outside of scripted sequences and they want to milk the money shots. But still. Massively improves the game and makes the ayy actually act like a beast.
The Alien was not bulletproof in any of the films. In the first one a grappling hook punctured it's chest.
Calm down and get back to your grave, Giger.
>inside their nests in narrow corridors and dimly lit engine rooms
Did you forget the entire film franchise takes place in space/hostile planets? It's not like humans could freely walk out in the open in those environments
That really limits the overall "if they ever got loose on earth humanity will definitely go extinct" narrative though
Earth is a hive planet in that universe. 99% of the population lives in dense megacities.
Isnt alien taking place in same universe as bladerunner, or am i schizophrenic?
you are correct
Alien, Blade Runner, and Soldier all occur in the same setting.
Ridley Scott left hints but its basically all fanon. Soldier acknowledges Blade Runner directly, the other two just have similar themes and technobabble.
In the same way Star Wars and E.T. are in the same universe
There is an Alien reference in blade runners, but that is just props being reused, however none of the Directors spoke against it so it is creative freedom.
And don't forget this, waaay back in 1990 when AVP's release was to be 24 years later.
No that was in 1999
>They're fast but not enough to dodge bullets
They're bulletproof, the colonial marines in AlienS had top tier shit which is the reason they could gun them down
>vulnerable to cold and heat
Nope, they can survive in full vacuum and the only reason they run from fire is pure animal reaction + nest protection instincts
>Queen is a giant slow target
The Queen is even more bulletproof and in optimal conditions their nests are deep underground
>despite their supposed intelligence
They're a species which adapts to their environment. If swamping the enemy with meat works, they keep doing it. If they're forced to get clever they become so. In the comics where they take over Earth the rapid-reaction nest clearing forces are really formidable and succeed in keeping the infestation down for a while, so the queens get artificially selected for intelligence and subtlety. In the late stages they catch a queen and it has problem solving capabilities on par with a genius IQ human.
This is purely a Ridley Scott fanon thing, but it works well since Replicants seem to be ghetto biological predecessors of the androids and everything we know about BR's space travel tells us it's pretty fricking shit, just like Alien's
>top tier shit
Absolutely false, they went down with standard issue pulse rifles, nades and a smart gun team. Nothing fancy. Purposedly equipped troops are visible only in alien 3, when commandos try to retrieve the xenomorph and ripley while wearing acid proof reinforced padded armor
They still tote standard issue pulse rifles. When will space ZOGbots learn?
>They're bulletproof,
>he posts, 250+ posts in after many, many posts showed them not being bulletproof
Can you show they are? That contradict a pistol killing one, albeit at point blank
They're not bullet proof, they just have hard exoskeletons that need to be hit at the right angle to inflict damage.
>They're a species which adapts to their environment. If swamping the enemy with meat works, they keep doing it. If they're forced to get clever they become so. literally the plot of the Hunter x Hunter Chimera Ant arc
fricking weebs everywhere
>They're bulletproof, the colonial marines in AlienS had top tier shit which is the reason they could gun them down
You gays have had the whole thread to pony up evidence and you've given us squat.
It's a tiger filled with acid and little more.
No it doesn't. If a planet needs technological sustainment then that means metal habitats. If a planet doesn't need sustainment then that means wildlife to feed from.
>drop some eggs on Earth
>infestation goes exponential
>by week 1 government finds out
>by week 2 the xenos have gutted cities across a continent or more
You have to understand the aesthetic of the 1980s. It was a time when machines were revered for being strong, but not smart, high-resolution or adaptable; so 'the next phase of evolution' was thought to be something which combined the two.
>infestation goes exponential
see that's the problem with these comics. they assume a xenomorph infestation would be as discreet and insidious as a flu.
but xenos reproduce by violently tackling a human and slapping a facehugger on their face, either that or even throat raping them. a man would be left profoundly scarred by this and usually xenos don't let them go, they cocoon them in their lairs, so you don't have a parasite that "spreads" their offspring, rather a pack of animals that routinely kidnaps people. and even if they let them go for some reason, a simple X-ray body scanner can easily spot the giant slug lodged in their chest cavity. xenos are anything but discreet
I'm pretty sure in one is the movies they didn't see the burster on a mechanic scan because it only really registered as a small enough blip to be confused for a scanner error or debris on the scanning aperture because they didn't know what to look for.
>beep beep
>oh, just a fist sized piece of debris in their chest cavity
Even if they didn't expect anything dangerous, surely they would've at least told them to go to a doctor.
they had no reason to think there was anything more than the facehugger, and Ash's chest bursts like literally five minutes after the hugger leaves his face
iirc it started in brazil, so yes, there would be 200 million of them running around before anyone noticed or cared.
Black person they fully mature in less than a day or two. As if the chink flu wasn't any indication, human response to such events are abysmally slow. By the time you'd even notice 1 man going missing you'd already have an infestation on your hands and by the time the gays up top even have a clue and decide on a policy you'd probably have hundreds of thousands running around.
>By the time you'd even notice 1 man going missing you'd already have an infestation on your hands and by the time the gays up top even have a clue and decide on a policy you'd probably have hundreds of thousands running around.
Except there can't be more xenomorphs than people they kidnap and face hug. A dozen or so people in an area go missing = a dozen or so xenomorphs. Then every person they kill for food or in combat is one less xenomorph on top of the ones that fell in battle.
Humans aren't the only thing they can burst out of.
>Except there can't be more xenomorphs than people they kidnap and face hug.
Can't they reuse the host?
No, but they can use things other than people for hosts. Humans just make really good hosts.
Yeah, if we've learned anything from Covid, it's that people IRL are as dumb as in the Aliens and Dawn of the Dead universes.
Nah all you learned was that 5% of people(only whites are people in this context) are kooks which we knew, 20% are addicted to social signaling and lose their shit if people don't feed to dopamine habit ie libtards, 20% simply refuse to take anybody's shit and will not comply with anything, and 35% will ignore shit either due to logical disinterest in something which does not effect them or laziness.
The positions aren't stupid, but some are antithetical. To the libtard the person who refuses to comply is not only disobedient or a threat, assuming they believe the most dire models presented to them regarding the disease, they are fundamentally alien in mindset. The liberal mind cannot understand and even seems to have problems abstractly simulating the thought processes of those without interest in virtue signaling or even social signaling in general. There are real reproducible batteries of questions which ask participants to simulate the behaviors and opinions of those in different political categorizations. "Conservatives" could simulate liberals almost perfectly. Moderates had slight difficulty simulating very hard right wingers. Liberals had trouble simulating moderates and couldn't simulate anybody to the right of moderates at all often providing contradicting answers which conformed to no ideology. To a liberal somebody disinterested in virtue signaling is either a dangerous criminal or a liar.
Corona-chan wasn't an actual threat and everybody who wasn't hysterical knew it, even the most dire estimates put it nowhere near the virulence of a random yellow fever outbreak in the 19th century. Thus the conflict was not existential or even materially lethal, it quickly become political at every level of society from top to bottom. Look at Xi using it to become NeoMao.
Oddly enough the rape bug ayylamos aren't as unstoppable as they are hyped to be makes them more dangerous since they aren't an true existential threat and won't be wiped out.
>By the time you'd even notice 1 man going missing you'd already have an infestation on your hands
No, you’d have 1 person missing and 1 xenomorph. It’s a 1:1 ratio for their breeding. Hard to cause an outbreak with that slow of reproduction.
>referencing covid
Why would you even mention a nothing burger who's death numbers are inaccurate as shit and got lumped in with flu deaths and co-morbidities? We lived through a tyrannical regime that took advantage over us because of sniffles and idiots like you will still liken it to a plague.
>a tyrannical regime that took advantage over us
So if the worldwide mask mandates were just an exercise in domination why aren't we wearing masks now? Let me guess, the one world illuminati government backed off because you personally faced down a Walmart greeter.
Everything you need to know is written in the original undoctored version of the zionist protocols.
I wish more people would take the time to read it. It's literally a veil lifter for what type of world you youngster zoomies are born into.
War in Ukraine started. Can only have one fear or outrage narrative going on at the same time. What do you expect, that the pandemic lasts forever? Or War on Terror? Or this war? As long as you're kept dancing to their tunes you're controlled. As long as people are wasting their time on stuff like climate change etc, they're not spending any time on real issues, like ever-ongoing centralization, institutional indoctrination etc. Imagine if all the people raving about the climate would instead be protesting at Wall Street, or taking money out of their banks, or saving up money to collectively buy back the property that have been taken away from them through the centuries.
Not gonna happen in this "climate".
Then end games of the "pandemic" was meant to be the first steps in establishing a one world "united nations" lead government.
It's why all the globohomosexual organization were entirely backing it up.
And if you think they backed down, then you ain't seen nothing yet.
>the president to forcibly drug people against their will has was created
>morons like you can't see the danger of this
When manditory sterilizations take place you have no one to blame but yourself.
>So if the worldwide mask mandates were just an exercise in domination
Yes
>why aren't we wearing masks now?
They lost the plot
Post guns. Bet you won’t.
Good lord, it's literally like fishing with dynamite
Why would I need guns when I can just tell your controller to tweak the implants in your fillings?
So that’s a no on owning firearms. Thought so
They can also use most animals.
In the comic where Earth gets infested and taken over by aliens, the governments basically just let it happen because they are too cheap to disrupt commerce and tourism(no one really lives on earth besides poor people, they just visit it to engage in luxury), they just destroy hives one at a time as they spring up and become a visible problem, and declare the threat over without actually placing quarantines or fully cleaning out areas. They ultimately just pull out because it gets too expensive to not let earthlings die.
>t. never watched Alien vs Predator Requiem
literally that's the plot of the movie, aliens start a hive in literal Colorado suburbia.
I make that joke every time I drive through Gunnison, which looks absolutely nothing like the movie.
They literally nuked the town to contain them
It happens in the comics and the xenos take over Earth in about 2 years. The earth governments tried to hide the problem to protect their tourism industry and it bit them in the ass.
After Earth gets genocided, it's retaken by an army comprised from the other planets humanity colonisted. There was just too much open ground for the xenos to hide, plus it's easy to stop people from being impregnated by facehuggers once the xeno lifecycle is understood.
Also acid blood. So if you managed to shoot them they would melt the ship
The comics and games expand on their abilities a lot. For starters, they're pretty durable outside of the weapons the soldiers are equipped with. Fire doesn't hurt them very much. They can also replenish their numbers easily, and are consistently shown to work in groups well.
Xenomorphs in the films have their "super durable" exoskeletons penetrated by normal buckshot, pistols, and subsonic darts with blunt heads. Shut the frick up.
in the original movie they say the xenomorphs skin is comprised of polarized silicon, which IRL is used for brake pads and industrial personal protective gear.
The skin of the xenomorph is ablative like a brake pad, shoot it and it'll just ablate like a ceramic plate carrier, not to mention the acid blood
Scale is what matters, that's like saying 1mm of Kevlar is "bulletproof" and when questioned you just explain the mechanics of Kevlar.
No, they say the facehugger replaces some of it's skin SOME, with polarized silicon for environmental protection against the elements.
It's hard for them to die from atmospheric pressure, temperature, etc. They die to bullets just fine.
In the first film they suggest just shooting it with their laser pistols (they had laser pistols in the first film, people forget that), but they drop that idea when they realize it'd just cause the ship's pressure hull to dissolve.
I think the only time we see buckshot kill a xeno, it's when it's fired inside one's mouth. Correct me if I'm wrong. We never see a pistol wound or kill one of the xenos, despite being fired at them.
Are skulls weaker from the inside?
Is your blood under extreme pressure inside your blood vessels?
The shotgun blew through whatever meat is inside the frickers head and THEN punched through this so-called bulletproof carapace. Cope.
Vasquez’s pistol worked.
There’s a freeze-frame moment where Hicks kills a xenomorph with the shotgun on the APC monitors before Ripley busts in, there’s some Youtube kill compilation that shows it.
The thing about the mouth shot is that, like the other anon says, it took the whole back of the skull with it. That means the pellets are presumably still penetrating the cranial armor, albeit from the inside.
>They can also replenish their numbers easily
Isn't the fact that they need to kidnap an entirely separate organism to parasitise in order to mature an incredibly limiting factor?
It's the zombie mentality that losing one of you creates a new enemy, tho it's weaker here because your buddy needs to be MIA instead
Really I think one of the Xeno's greatest biological flaws is that they don't implant multiple eggs per host. Having a 1:1 reproduction rate is pretty shit.
Speaking of the zombie problem. Having your food source also be your only means of reproduction is pretty shaky. Doubly so when your prey is a bunch of violent space monkeys that have fire sticks and bipedal forklifts.
>but muh prometheus goo and covenant spores
Get that shit out of here.
kill an alien today. JDAM alien nests. Enter alien infested buildings with flamethrowers. Curbstomp alien facehuggers. Shoot an Alien queen with an AT-4. Put Alien nests on the Red Square at 13:30 9.05.2023. Pour pesticides on Aliens. Depressurize Alien infested ships. Shoot Aliens with black tip .50 BMG
>Put Alien nests on the Red Square at 13:30 9.05.2023
What ah happens in Moscow then?
Never mind may day parade
The two T-14s that exist break down
Yes
Seems like it, but it also allows them to adapt to the environment, so it's also a strength.
In before Drax.
Comics don't count, the writers suck ass and retcon shit and break plots too much to ever bother with.
>don't understand how they were so difficult to deal.
>he didn't play this game MP
>nom nom nom
Missing sound of movement and frames of animation made it exceptionally hard to hit at the time of 2001 release, newbie
Xenomorphs are pretty much bulletproof for anything besides the military 10mm and whatnot. They also utilize sewers and other dark and secluded locations to set up nests, while being able to grow exponentially. By the time anybody in a federal government gets wind of it, there's probably multiple hives globally, seeing as xenos/facehuggers/queen facehuggers would and could hitch rides across the planet with cargo ships.
>bulletproof for anything besides the military 10mm
Hi-Point Spess Muhreen Gun confirmed for human race savior
Is there a single scene from any of the movies where a Xenomorph resists a bullet of any kind on screen?
Lots, avp:r they tank 5.56. Aliens bullet rounds ricochet off of the head. Resurrection I'm pretty sure the cripple only manages to barely scratch one.
>inb4 close encounters shotgun
Ignoring that outside of purpose built armor piercing explosive meme rounds held together with tech jargon and Hollywood mumbo jumbo the ammunition for other guns is not described at all and require point blank shots to weak areas, usenagainst larval forms or literally shot off inside the creature's mouth.
The lore is and always will be inconsistent since Cameron was a hack and needed an established monster design for his vietnam allegory which then got turned from the perfect organims into really deadly bugs that needed to die by the hundreds for his action movie until Scott threw a tantrum and made it about gay sex with robo Michael Fassbender
>Lots, avp:r they tank 5.56. Aliens bullet rounds ricochet off of the head. Resurrection I'm pretty sure the cripple only manages to barely scratch one.
Post the video and timestamp then
>Ignoring that outside of purpose built armor piercing explosive meme rounds held together with tech jargon and hollywood mumbo jumbo the ammunition for other guns is not described at all and require point blank shots to weak areas, usenagainst larval forms or literally shot off inside the creature's mouth.
>durrrr skulls are weaker from the inside
It's a shotgun from the fricking 1800s.
It's his family's shotgun, the movie takes place in 2122 and the exact make and model aren't discussed. Han solo didn't shoot vader with a c96.
>muh timestamps
Black person watch the movies, those scenes aren't controversial
I like how in Fireteam you have little histories for every weapon you unlock. If you pre ordered and got the Hick's shotgun the header for it literally says that it's older than you are, and it's place of origin says the mantle over grandpa's fireplace. I love when developers put more thought than none into stuff.
The game also takes place in 2202 so "grandpappy's" shotgun still places it as a post year 2100 weapon. It's also pointless to include videogames or comics since they just do whatever the frick they want and then Batman being able to hurt them with batarangs has to be factored in alongsidw them being able to stand tow to toe qith superman. But yeah Fireteam had some neat weapons.
>It's- it's- it's muh mach 5 super depleted uranium buckshot!!!
>No I cant prove my claims, but they're not controversial so accept them!
Post your gun or go back to spacebattles you dumb homosexual.
Pic related my Sterling Mark 4 L2A3 sub-machine gun. Now you homosexual.
>Han solo didn't shoot vader with a c96
Ironically, a C96 would have actually killed Vader
he wasn't deflecting with a lightsaber when han shot him.
So there wouldn't be any lore frickery of bullets continuing through the plasma as molten projectiles shit.
he was using his hand and the force, which probably meant he was prepared for any sort of hand fired projectile from something of that size.
At best Han would have busted his robo-arm up a bit.
I'm still not sure why slug throwers got phased out in the SW universe
They seem to be the answer to most of the universe's defenses. Though maybe their modern body armor stands up well to it.
supposedly it was easy to make armor stand up to that, but harder to make it stand up to blaster weapons that fired blasts of plasma made from tibiyana gas.
It was a meta change that resulted in most stuff being structured around blasters.
Imagine for example if you brought a .58 caliber black powder rifle firing miniballs out and tried it on body armor.
Its gonna frick someone up via the energy alone and take out their ribs.
Meanwhile lightsabers as far as I know are the only thing truly vulnerable to slugs.
I know Jedi are able to evade/deflect blaster fire because of their pre-cognition, I wonder if slug-throwers are too fast for it to ever help
no. its a precognitive danger sense.
the bigger issue they face is how obscure the danger is.
something the size of a coin in diameter traveling high speed at them?
just dodge.
an explosion they didn't know was there being activated?
far more difficult if they didn't figure out what was probably wrong in the area beforehand.
The Empire tried using solid ammo weapons in the Dark Forces saga. The end result was a pile of dead stormtroopers and the Jedi going home with new guns in his trunk. You'd have more success hiring a bunch of these hitscanning pricks.
IIRC some of the EU stories have big groups of bounty hunters/mercs successfully using shotgun barrages against lone/small groups of Jedi, because there's too many pellets to dodge when the air is literally filled with them from multiple shooters at different angles. Doesn't work when the numbers aren't in your favor, but when they are, the mercs had just enough of an edge to win.
>Doesn't work when the numbers aren't in your favor
Also doesn't work if the Jedi in question has even slight training in putting up Force barriers, as seen in a light side Jedi Academy playthrough.
The canonical Star Wars RPGs had loads of Slugthrowers that penetrated Stormtrooper armor. Among them were pistols and shotguns, with ranges that precluded them being some kind of super-space guns with mach 10 projectiles.
Hell, there was a different EU source stating that a background extra in the original trilogy was a member of a race that favored rifles which would punch straight through a stormtrooper's armor (and in one instance shot through two scout troopers, but warsies will scream that the armor is different) and the rifles in their stats and appearance were functionally identical to bolt actions from ww1.
Clone wars has these funky yeti cavemen impale straight through Clone troopers with stone headed spears.
There was a comic where someone finds storm troopers having fallen like ten or fifteen feet onto stone spikes, not even super razor sharp crystals or anything, and the spikes have punched through both sides of their armor.
It's not space marine armor, it's a cheap mass produced general hazard suit.
They can fight in vacuum and (generally )don't have to worry about diseases or scraping their knees on some alien poison ivy, but it doesn't make them super tough.
I agree.
Also I forgot to add to this.
Theres a Clone Wars comic where Obi Wan tries to block basic b***h bullets with his lightsaber, and the molten material splashes on him, burns him through his robes, and he actually runs away.
>Imagine for example if you brought a .58 caliber black powder rifle firing miniballs out and tried it on body armor.
>Its gonna frick someone up via the energy alone and take out their ribs.
No it won’t. It’s less energy than a .308. BFD through rifle armor is not a reliable or major wounding mechanism. It can be on soft armor
I was specifically thinking soft armor, not plates.
Gotcha. My bad
AlienS takes place in 2179
and there's no telling if he's using magic caseless rounds because he's never seen reloading the shotgun.
For all we know, every gun in the setting is using the magic caseless technology that fits 99 rounds in a smaller than STANAG mag that has better penetration than 7.62. If the shotgun rounds are the same, it explains why they'd still be effective since they'd basically be 4 bore in a 12 gauge platform.
It's like expecting consistency from a James Cameron movie. Look at Terminator. A single guy with a shotgun can functionally pin and stun a Terminator yet it can waltz through the entire police station of 5.56mm and shotgun toting police and not even struggle.
Cameron runs on rule of cool, not internal consistency.
Would you even need to go that wild with tech to have a ceaseless *shotgun* round, though? We've had internally caseless ammo since the 1850's and externally since...well, the G11. The downsides inherent to those ammo types aren't really relevant to a pump action 1930's fricking ithaca
Yes yes everyone COULD be firing super antimater bullets at twice the speed of light, but in the absence of evidence you assume Occam's razor applies.
The dude with dreads drops one with a couple pistols. It's obvious that guns don't work on Aliens, not because they're bulletproof, but because we need a horror movie to happen. Guns and cell phones need to just not work. If they could eat 5.56 they'd be too heavy and need too many calories to support their hive population for my autism to handle.
Again, the movies take place in 2122+ and the only canon lore is that 99 rounds of 10mm caseless explosive tipped armor piercing mcguffin rounds will fit in a mag smaller than a modern beta mag. I doubt in the 122 years of projected future advancements that saw galactic colonialism, prison planets and city sized mining ships that they would be firing .45acp or 9x19. You could also try reading more than 1 sentence and see the part where Scott's original idea of the perfect space rape monster was co-opted by Cameron for a killer bug stand in for the viet cong so arguing about lore is pointless anyways.
Shut up, you "Alien was better" snobs are just pseuds.
Cameron took the slasher rape monster defeated by a half-naked woman and turned it into a extinction level even if it reached Earth. The Vietnam stuff was just a part of it. There's also a lot of Starship Troopers, and he perfectly expanded the mythology with a species vs. species fight led by literal mothers of each one.
It was masterful and unironically more deep than the original movie.
And it could have been literally any other monster or one of his own design but cameron needed the alien IP. You like the action, good for you, turning mysterious bio-weapon into a bug is not clever.
>mysterious bio-weapon into a bug
It's what the alien always was since the first movie. Nothing changed, it was just naturally expanded and answered the question of what would have happened in the Nostromo if they had guns: they still would have been screwed. Cameron also added her own designs like the Queen, which are still top tier monsters to this day.
And he didn't try to foolishly explain shit removing the mistery like Ridley Scott later.
Is there a queen of the queens? Recall there is an empress and one above even that that is like, the very first Xeno?
>It was masterful and unironically more deep than the original movie.
It was a good movie. It was a very different move then the first. But I wouldn't call it "deep" nor "masterful"
We've been using 45 acp for over 110 years literally right now, anon
Hell, we've been using 50 BMG for nearly the same length? How old are standardized shotgun loads? Smokeless powder itself dates back to the 1880's...
x54r still killing people right now
>Scott's original idea
WHO IS DAN O'BANNON
>Lots, avp:r they tank 5.56
Oh so in the movie that’s dogshit and is Seagal tier in production value it happens. Cool. Very relevant to the real ones.
From what I remember all we see is guys firing into the dark, there's no close up of a Xeno being hit.
>From what I remember all we see is guys firing into the dark
Official review of Requiem
And then there's AVP 1, where a giant nailgun we see penetrate less than a foot of ice blows a Xenomorph's head off, but the facehugger fetishist in the thread will probably argue that it doesn't count because the xenomorph's head had little cuts across it's surface beforehand which obviously lowered it's durability by a factor of 1000.
Ice is hard as frick, I'd believe something made to punch through it can punch through a skull no problem.
>oh so in that movie I hate but is still relevant to "hurr durr any movies where they resist boolets"
Yeah
A quick google reveals that AVP is broadly considered non canon. Otherwise you have to accept a lot of fricking trash like the Yuatja secretly running humanity from the dawn of civilization to modern day.
Not an argument. The AVP series is not canon
lolwut? Xenomorphs in Requiem get absolutely cheesed by M4s and even a Glock. M2 .50 reduced one to gibs.
When Vasquez dies she magdumps her pistol at the one she already magdumped at point blank range, and it looks like the rounds are just sparking off as it thrashes around.
In Alien: Isolation, the pistol and shotgun only scare the Xeno off, it figures out after a while that it just stings. Even the boltgun, which can one-shot a Working Joe, is more or less just a glorified boot up the arse.
No wait, it was Gorman who shoots the other one in the vent, isn't it, like that other Anon said? It's been a while...
Vasquez killed one in the first movie with a 9mm handgun and in Covenant what I can only guess is normal 5.56 was able to pierce it fine. The blunt nosed harpoon gun Ripley used in the first movie also penetrated the body.
>inb4 Gordon running out of ammo
Firing at the rounded frontal skull of the xenomorph. The fact that he didn’t just throw the thing away the first time he shot at them (and also the filming implies from a storytelling perspective that the VP70 would be effective all the other times if the people holding them could have actually gotten to use them) would suggest it still works overall.
Oh, that and Hicks’ shotgun also worked, I forgot about that also.
The shotgun hollowed out a Xenos head like a canoe. Anything that can be penetrated by buckshot isn't even 2a. Basically every pistol round out there has better "armor" penetration than a buckshot pellet.
Someone will say "but they put it in his mouth", the problem being it blew *out* his skull anyway.
The muzzle blast of a shotgun isnt the same as the pellets, we saw the alien skull pop open, not just pierced. The blast pressure definitely contributed.
Besides, Hicks shoots at off screen xenos in the hive earlier and they scream in pain but there is no sign they actually died.
2a armor, the lowest grade of modern armor, will stop a load of buckshot straight at the muzzle, let alone after passing through the meat of the inside of a head.
Vasquez killed it with her Hi-Power when it placed point blank against its skull, and even then it took half the mag to blow a chunk off its head
And even THEN it was still skittering around for a bit before finally expiring
>Hi-Power
That’s not a Hi-Power
>Point Blank
How much velocity do you think a handgun bullet will lose at any common CQB range?
>half the mag
Every single bullet was blowing out larhe chunks of its skull. The fact that Vasquez was able to pin it down with her foot when normally xenomorphs would easily overpower a grown man (or a woman mistaken for a man) should tell you something.
And the side of the head still looks thicker than the armor on pretty much anywhere else that’s not the head.
So a pistol at the low end of handgun power still killed it? You can do the same thing to an elephant, that doesn’t mean it’s bulletproof. You can blow the heart and lungs out of an elk with a 7mm mag and it still runs 100 yards. That doesn’t mean it’s bulletproof
>Xenomorphs are pretty much bulletproof for anything besides the military 10mm

>while being able to grow exponentially.
Don’t they need to stick an egg in a human? That’s not a recipe for fast growth
In the books there's a xeno worshipping cult who set off nukes to help facilitate the alien conquest of earth. Fricking cucks I swear.
>They're easy to spot with thermal
No, they don't:
Yeah, you need Predator tech vision to see them. At least according to Concrete Jungle
>Concrete Jungle
That game is terrible and I love it.
It was so jank and full of bullshit, but still great all the same. I'm still salty that as soon as it gave you the smart disk enemies started wearing armor that made it shit.
The point was they're better than humans in every direction, not perfect. They eat less, consume less, breed more, are tougher and just as smart, so they would inevitably replace any human populations that weren't protected by Yutani Corp, which was the whole idea
>The point was they're better than humans in every direction
>just as smart
If they were so smart they should have built some guns
>how they were so difficult to deal.
Well a tiger is difficult to deal with. If you have the proper weapon on you and see one from afar you can handle the situation. A bit of training and no fear and you will live. And if not you are dead. You would be torn apart like a bag of chips.
This a fricking alien monster that looks like its some devil from another dimension.
Its fricking difficult to deal with physically, emotionally, mentally.
>This a fricking alien monster that looks like its some devil from another dimension.
Anon, Aliens don't "just" look like devils. They ARE literally demons from another dimension that revealed itself to Giger during his LSD clairvoyance sessions. That makes Aliens so special.
They are in his words iirc the personification of rape.
H.R. Giger was a pinnacle of human existence.
So, when are these demons going to infest earth?
Always thought it was criminal that these never made it to earth before Hollywood turned to steaming shit.
>Perfect organism my ass.
indeed its not a perfect organism this is just what the insane robot said in Promotheus/Covenant.
>said in Promotheus/Covenant
Do zoomers really
I’m 32 and enjoyed prometheus. Never saw covenant
Prometheus wasn't as bad as people said it was. I think it's highly imaginative, with great production design, and some very interesting themes
honestly, being connected to the Alien timeline kind of ruined it
All the art book design in the world can't save a bad script, the movie was DOGSHIT.
To you
No, objectively.
Yes, objectively
>When the science team took off their protective gear without testing the air, poked a hissing snake, and smoked weed while investigating first contact with an alien race I clapped, hashtag relatable.
I liked that scene too
>DUDE LETS BREATHE THE ALIEN AIR AND SMOKE WEED LMAO
>DUDE LETS POKE THE ALIEN SNAKE LMAO
It would have been incredible if they didn't make the characters act like literal morons at every opportunity. It sucks all the tension out of the movie when everyone is a victim of their own mega-idiocy.
Basically this. It was a bad movie that could have been great with a few small changes.
Like, for taking off the masks, have one of them get a hose caught on something so they have to take it off, then maybe the others follow suit.
For the alien snake thing, have them try to capture it as a specimen, carefully, then have them screw up and get nommed.
For Charlize Thereon getting run over, make her stumble early on or have the big wheel fall on its side in top of her when she thought it was safe.
Minor changes would have made the movie great.
For me, it was the dialog that ruined it. No one talked like an actually person. Alien felt like you were eaves dropping an actual work team.
The only issue with Prometheus and Covenant was that they had a few stupid decisions, which is completely ordinary for any movie, but some viewers got caught up with them and the hate train got up to speed, and now people just have to have the opinion that they were bad movies just because.
Same people praise the new Dune which was a bland mediocre take on the books without anything interesting about it other than a few impressive scenes.
>Prometheus and Covenant
Nah, they're both shit at all levels except at visuals and a few wasted good ideas in Prometheus. The characters, the action, the plot, the dialogue, it's all terrible and doesn't stand on its own.
>Dune
The new movie is a perfectly serviceable adaptation with charismatic actors and great visuals. It wins just by not losing control of the plot or having cringe stuff like the Lynch movie did (And I love that one too despite its many flaws)
>The only issue with Prometheus and Covenant was that they had a few stupid decisions, which is completely ordinary for any movie, but some viewers got caught up with them and the hate train got up to speed, and now people just have to have the opinion that they were bad movies just because.
The ENTIRE PLOT of both movies hinges on people acting so inexplicably, unfathomably dumb that even the dumbest viewer feels offput. It's not some kind of surreal fever dream kind of story where logic an just stop applying for the sake of themes or allegories.
My head canon is that some moron fricked up their oxygen concentrations on ship and in their tanks.
Actually, the script reveals that Vickers sabotaged the mission by hiring the stupidest motherfrickers she could find.
I guess that explains why everybody in that fricking film acts like a fricking Youtube content creator in their fist time in Asia.
WOO I'M A SCIENTIST! LET'S PRESS ALL THE BUTTONS! LET'S TAKE OUR PANTS OFF! WHAT'S THAT THING? LETS TRY TO FRICK IT!
My head canon was that cold sleep caused brain damage
The Dark Horse comics (Shut up they were better than prometheus) had the alien outbreak on earth aided by the alien queens having psychic powers, being able to influence people to form "alien cults" that motivated them to free the Weyland-Yutani experimental hive and offer themselves to the facehuggers
And the ironic thing is, in a real world scenario the queens wouldn't need psychic powers, there's enough nuts out there that would worship these thing all on their own.
Just like that one pastor from The Blob.
they fricked the script over by deleting key character defining moments
>weylands daughter with a daddy complex being in charge of hiring the crew. She deliberately picks out the biggest morons she can find to frick with dear daddy
>the crew coming in contact with non hostile alien fauna in the engi base that let themselves be petted. Fast forward to stoner bros getting munched up by goo snake
>the captain telling Naomi about his time in the military on earth where he raided a biochem facility. How the engi base reminds him strongly of that. Cut forward to cap not thinking twice about ramming his ship into the undocking engi ship
>mutated stoner bro actually developing xeno like features like shaped head and stretched out limbs with a thin exoskeleton. Establishing connection of black mutagen goo to the xeno origins. Instead we got generic space zombie cause they thought the idea was too on the nose
etc etc etc
>Prometheus wasn't as bad as people said it was.
It was a pile of shit and a waste of time and effort.
If it wasn't the 4th of a series that started with a GOAT movie it would be considered a "so bad it's just bad" movie.

The original script got leaked and assuming the same level of visual polish would've made for a vastly superior film. If you're a fan of the franchise I suggest tracking it down and reading it, everything makes so much more sense.
The only difference is that the engineer takes 5 minutes to explain why the engineers wanted to kill humans. I assume you know but for those who don't, the engineers invented humans and gave them the religion of Christianity, or at least one that has the same basic commandments. Humans didn't take to it as well as the engineers would like and so they created Jesus to try and set them back on the right path. Jesus being crucified was the last straw and they decided to kill humanity after that.
>Jesus being crucified was the last straw and they decided to kill humanity after that.
Maybe they should have sent Xeno Jesus to do the job, at least he wouldn't have ended up on a cross. XD
Black person the whole reason you're getting called zoomie is that line about them being perfect is from the original movie.
That wasn’t me
Go away tastelet, then. Please watch Alien while you do. Nothing besides the first two movies is good. Hell, after 3, none of them are even fit to wipe your ass with.
You're not entirely wrong. They don't show up on thermals, by the by. But the main problem with the xenos is people not being prepared to deal with them. In Aliens this is mostly due to bad leadership. People like to shit on Lt. Gorman, but he was green, and it is his sergeant's job to advise him with the benefit of his experience. Apone does not take the mission seriously and allows this attitude to fester in his platoon. When they're going into the reactor complex and find out about the risk of damaging the reactor, he makes his biggest, most serious error in not withdrawing to re-arm with appropriate weapons. It gets them all killed.
Cpl. Ferro was similarly a frickup, partially on her and partially on her CO. Considering these ships can easily boost to orbit, she should've been ordered by the Lt. (advised by the sergeant) to dust off back for the ship, or remain on-station to provide fire support or quick evac when exploring the reactor. Failing this, she should have kept the dropship buttoned up, since by then no one had any reason to doubt that some unknown fauna had attacked the colony.
I'll give Gorman credit. He deferred to the most experienced remaining man in his platoon for the remainder of the op, and when one of his Marines was wounded he did not leave her to die.
it's not known if they show up on thermals.
The only reason the scanner in the original keys off of "micro changes in air density" is that any other type of sensor would have revealed the science officer as not human.
>it's not known if they show up on thermals.
It's dubious in the movies but if you want to take any of the games as reference, they do not show up thermal. Predators have to have a specific visor setting to light them up.
>cold acid blood
Frick learning why they were made. I want to know how the these things survive day to day. What's the queen's tax policy even.
It's more likely that their carapace hides their thermal signature
In the same sense that plating wouldn't show up as brightly on thermals compared to a persons body
Their blood only seems to become acid when they bleed, though
They canonically don't show up on thermals:
They must be able to mimic ambient temp, at least not in the void of space.
Infra red isn't inherently the same thing as thermal.
I would accept that, being a marine, she probably is using the term interchangeably though.
If the infra-red here is supposed to be more like NODs then her line makes no sense, I'm convinced it's meant to be thermals
I think in the movies, it's explained that Xenomorphs make their nests in areas with high temperatures, like near reactor cores. The ambient temperature in the Marines were going into was already extremely high and the Xenomorphs could easily blend into the already warm hive walls.
No. I’ll stay here. Might watch it today
>Go away tastelet, then
No.

Nah you are
>this is just what the insane robot said in Promotheus/Covenant
Go away zoomie
>you don't even to magdump on them
You kind of do and their shitty acid blood fricks everything up. They also can attract predators.
in the first movie the crew couldn't easily engage the alien because its acid blood could damage the ship, worst case leading to breaching the hull. the alien had no limitations on engaging the crew and could outsmart them and pick them off.
in the second movie the bug hunt marine squad was outnumbered and went into the engagement not knowing what to expect. the aliens were more intelligent than the marines thought, the aliens knew the terrain and building better than the marines, and the aliens destroyed the marines' escape ship to strand them and demoralize them
all the other movies are shit and don't count
>in the first movie the crew couldn't easily engage the alien because its acid blood could damage the ship, worst case leading to breaching the hull.
See this is good writing. If gives a plausible excuse to why they can’t just go light up the aliens
There were a lot of them and they don't sleep. A good solution would probably be to nuke them. Preferentially from orbit.
>giant carapace monster
>metal claws
>can somehow sneak up on anything on a metal space ship
>also it has acid for blood except the times it doesnt
>oh oh and a mouth inside its mouth!
>it doesn't need food and can grow to full size almost instantly
It's like a child came up with this shit.
Just like 40k, most usmc-centric movies, etc., it's a power fantasy of sorts. It's on par with kids going, "Oh yeah? Well, *my* monster can do this, and that, blah blah blah", that kind of tirseome shit.
I'm fine with power fantasy stuff, but the amount of pretension the Alien franchise has is incredible. Nobody wants to accept it's just a dumb space monster movie. Noooo the real monster is man and other existentialist nonsense rambling. Oh wait no, it's about motherhood or something. Frick Aliens.
The first two films and A:I are great. The rest belongs in a dumpster. Hell, I sympathize with people who say 'first movie only.' I don't agree, but I see where they're coming from.
Monsters that become mundane and knowable are not scary. They're just animals. This is why gay shit like Slendermang or skinwalkers are so tiresome now.
Maybe that's why I enjoy 3 so much. It's just a big predatory animal set lose on relatively unarmed people. Restored some of the mystery to the monster.
>slenderman
There was a time when marble hornets was peak kino. Shit was doomed by the time the first game came out.
3's setting was excellent, I just think it squandered it with bad CGI for the monster and under-utilization of its secondary characters, plus a script that is at parts extremely sloppy. If you read what a disaster that movie was to make, it's amazing it turned out as well as it did.
yeah it went through 10 scripts, and you can tell that just from watching the final movie

Aliens vs Predator 2 (the game) is a 9/10
AvP2 is still the best Aliens game IMO, Monolith knew their shit.
It's very good.
The Marine campaign had a really great sense of tension. You were fragile, the ayys outrun you, and acid blood fricks you up. It made sure you still felt vulnerable even when you got the bigger guns.
It's a good game, shame the movie it's based on is terrible. I'm more of a Predator guy than an Alien guy and I personally really love Predator 2 but man, those AvP movies were a mistake. Then they made Predators which I thought was actually pretty damn good, but they sure fricking squandered that with The Predator.
I hadn't seen the most recent movie but I heard it's ok
>probably some of the worst development hell any movie has gone through
No that's probably still Dune 1984.
>Nobody wants to accept it's just a dumb space monster movie.
I'm pretty sure everyone acknowledges the first movie is just a haunted house in space. It's just a really well-made haunted house movie.
>pseud
Post a movie you think it's deep. Let's laugh at you.
There's a cut scene in the first Alien where they find their food stores have been raided and almost completely consumed, which explains how the thing goes from 'large snake' to 'apex predator' so quickly. It consumed an enormous amount of calories in extremely short order. It was removed because Ridley Scott wanted it to be more of a surprise when it showed up, since he believed it would add to the tension if its transformation had no foreshadowing.
They also implicitly have extremely short lifespans in the principal form they're seen in. The one in the first film was sluggish on Ripley's shuttle because it was dying. Another cut scene has it that the adult aliens take captives and transform them into eggs. I actually like this slightly better than the 'hive' that Aliens went with because it's weirder. It might be the case that in this adult form, the alien doesn't eat at all and is basically a biological battery.
Whatever the case it's clear that the species can enter extremely extended periods of death-like hibernation and survive very hostile environments while they do so; that would certainly help with their ruinous metabolism depicted in the first film. This is not totally unheard-of on Earth, though exaggerated for menace.
The acid blood is always a thing - people get splashed repeatedly in Aliens - but the danger of the acid blood in small doses is significantly decreased in Aliens vs. in Alien.
good post
the xeno on the Narcissus was entering stasis, not dying
It could see Ripley preparing for hypersleep, and it would know she did really have a way to hurt it even if she was aware it was on board
I don't know if that's what they settled on as the canon explanation, but I know back in the day Scott was asked why it was acting lethargic and the explanation he gave was that it was dying already. I'll try and see if I can find a pull quote and a source.
It's equally valid for it to go to sleep, though. The eggs can obviously do that, it wouldn't be ridiculous for a reproductive adult to do it as well, if it matures in an environment without prey.
In aliens the marines are a bigger threat to the environment than the xenos. Ordering flamers only was the only smart decision Gorman made on that mission.
>It's like a child came up with this shit
Literally every sci-fi or fantasy story runs on rule of cool
It's basically just the ultimate apex predator combined with a not very subtle allegory for a rapist.
It's funny people replied to you seriously but not pointing out the flaws in your obvious troll post.
Alien is essentially if you did a B movie concept with a AAA cast, crew and budget.
cuz they swarm you.
Point conceded, then. I ignore secondary material (besides Alien Isolation, which is excellent), and really they aren't depicted in primary sources as invulnerable, just dangerous animals which are smarter than their appearance lets on.

Zoomer trash
Cope and seethe you old homosexual
>Hey we're going to use 100% practical effects we promise!
>Hahaha whoopsie, oopsie... haha...
It's remarkable how an unknowable interdimensional apex predator can be so fricking boring.
Still better than the xenomorph
Only because the Xenomorph has been ruined by expanded lore that has completely spiraled out of control. Flower face was boring on release. It's a dude with a weird head, and in such an lazy design choice.
>It needs to be scary
>I know, give it a weird mouth and teeth
>Amazing, trevor. This is as brilliant as your cthulu monster have multiple eyes
Pyramid head wasn’t scary at all. The Nemesis mogged him
Pyramid Head is at least interesting. I see that guy and I have many questions. I see hope solo vegana face and immediately understand it's a spooky monster designed by a twitter intern
>Nemesis
Also completely ruined by expanded lore. Frick R3make with an Albanian vodka bottle.
Ok.
Pyramid Head is kinda creepy in his original context, but not out of it and not now to anyone submerged in pop culture, since he's another 'Vader is Luke's father' tier macguffin at this point.
R3make may be a bad remake but man did we get a good Jill model out of it for smut animations.
R3make is fine if you view it as DLC for RE2R. I bought it well after it came out on sale and for $20 it’s good. As a standalone it sucks.
But you’re right the important thing is the Jill model. Holy frick she’s sexy
Julia Voth still mogs
>dimly lit engine rooms
>be a spacefaring race
>can’t make flashlights better than a 1970s tier maglite
Even a couple chinesium work lights and flashlights would light up those rooms. WMLs and decent, normal flashlights we have today would make this a non-issue
>inb4 it’s for the plot
I know but I’m going to b***h anyways
In the later avp games smashing lights is a gameplay mechanic during the xenomorph campaigns. As for wmls, the nostromo was a space tow truck, probably not much use for weapons on the missions they regularly ran.
>space tow truck, probably not much use for weapons on the missions they regularly ran.
That’s fine but mechanics have lights too anon. Flashlights exist when not attached to guns. They are quite handy in fact
I'm a fool for how long it took me to take the headlamp pill.
Have you also taken the flashlights with magnets in the base pill?
What the frick. How have been so in the dark with flashlight technology? I spend most of day working in god damned crawlspaces.
I see the joke you made. Flashlights didn't stop at swapping the bulbs for leds, they got all sorts of neat doodads they're building into them now.
That’s a fricking game changer working on vehicles
Same here fren. I feel dumb for not doing it sooner. The work light with hook pill and lights with magnets pill were great but headlamps can be a game changer.
They had laser pistols, but never had a chance to use them.
All their technology is 70's retropunk shit, all their lights would be incandescent bulbs and some fluorescent tubes.
The entire ship was hot as frick. Remember that chain room the hat guy died in? It was all wet and dark as frick, but he still took the time to put his face under the dripping water to cool off.
Now imagine there's hundreds of incandescent bulbs all over the ship to properly light all the little engineering corners and what have you.
Most of the Nostromo is an automated refinery, and the ship proper is support equipment, the engines, and minor facilities for the crew. Nothing is going to have any extra amenities that it doesn't need because corporate isn't paying for that.
The orange lights could be incandescent or hps, very hot either way. You can see where moisture drips down on the walls, I wouldn't want to add even more tiny spaceheaters when a flashlight would do.
>All their technology is 70's retropunk shit, all their lights would be incandescent bulbs and some fluorescent tubes.
I get why because it was made in 1979 but while we’re pointing out flaws I’m going to point out flaws. Dimly lit areas shouldn’t exist. You need it for plot but say there is a power issue/fuel shortage/reactor problem or whatever and that only emergency lighting will be used. Logical, simple explanation for why it’s so dark
what do we think of the original APC concept?
This one was originally intended to have at least 2ft+ ground clearance
...where are you supposed to put your d00ds?
Hatch is hidden in the back
>wheelhouse engine
Credit to Ron Cobb, but James Cameron decided he wanted to use an airline tug instead. Put it down to the same reason he didn't want HR Giger working on Aliens, he is a jealous b***h and doesn't like other visual artists.
The airline tug and not hiring Giger were both obviously cost cutting decisions. Until T2, Cameron was very restrained about budgets due to his origins working in cheap sci-fi movies.
He was also a good enough artist himself to steal what he needed from Giger and do his own thing. Giger was pissed off about it, but eventually even he admitted that Aliens and the Queen were great (Cameron apology to him didn't hurt either). You wouldn't know he didn't work in the movie without the end credits.
moment of surprise
The main through-line of the Alien franchise is that unregulated mega-corporations will sacrifice any number of lives if it means getting some kind of technological/competitive edge. Almost every instance of an alien outbreak is at least partially due to Weyland-Yutani purposefully allowing it to happen for research purposes. If they thought allowing an outbreak to happen on Earth would strengthen their position they'd engineer an outbreak to happen.
The other main through-line is that Man's hubris is their downfall. Thinking that they can out-think/out-engineer evolutionary behavior and having it bite them in the ass.
>The other main through-line is that Man's hubris is their downfall. Thinking that they can out-think/out-engineer evolutionary behavior and having it bite them in the ass.
Jurassic Park did it better, and at least guns worked in the book.
>Jurassic Park did it better
Maybe the book, but not the disneyfied movie
The movie is another example of handwaving guns because if guns were realistic, there wouldn't be a movie. It's a little silly they hunt a T Rex with an AT4 but I respect the enthusiasm.
The book establishes that the "dinosaurs" are surprisingly resilient to catastrophic CNS injuries, and while they WILL die, they may kill you before they realize they're dead. So Muldoon's preferred method of dealing with a dino chimpout (lol) is to blow them to pieces. No dino, no problem.
The movie also has weird unintentional moments like Malcolm coming off as a fraud, since he never once makes a coherent argument as to why Jurassic Park will fail, and what goes wrong is due to freak accidents rather than a cascade of design flaws magnified by a freak accident. His book version honestly comes off as a bit psycho, because he DOES know what's wrong with the park but doesn't bother telling anyone. He's considerably mellowed out by The Lost World, maybe because seeing a bunch of people die turns an amusing academic idea into an unpleasant thing you have to live with.
I think my favorite flaw from the book is the dino counting system, which counts up to the expected number and then just stops. Which is a problem because if the dinosaurs reproduce, there's no way for the automated system to recognize this, and if they get out of restricted areas while reproducing, this will go unnoticed. The system has huge blind spots too, like the river, which is a place you'd expect rogue dinosaurs to end up.
I never liked Malcolm in the book because it was obviously a author self insert and mouthpiece. It was too forced, and a capitalist arrogance cutting corners was already a good explanation for the problems with the park without need of pseudo science.
The computer guy being shafted by the owner and the cause of it all, was really insighful and visionary, heh
It really comes down to
>wait, an island off Costa Rica can get storms?
There's no real pseudo-science there besides the dinos themselves, and them being unknown chimeras who are ill-understood is something the book at least sets up. The mundane causes - shortcuts in programming, lack of staff, fricking over contractors, corporate refusal to acknowledge they're in fricking hurricane country - are all given their fair shake.
I mean, if you're trying to kill a T-Rex it's best not to half-ass it.
IIRC they also had a bunch of nerve gas grenades though they never ended up using them
>The main through-line of the Alien franchise is that unregulated mega-corporations will sacrifice any number of lives if it means getting some kind of technological/competitive edge.
Yeah it's a social critique disguised as an action/horror movie. The characters in the first movie are space truckers who are treated as disposable objects. The second movie plays with this some more, in that the Marines act like badasses but that's a kinda cope for the fact that they're also disposable tools. Everybody is basically being used as a means to an end on behalf of the megacorporation. There's also a feminist theme, but I think it's a real kind of feminism here and not the fake kind, since Ripley is initially dismissed and not taken seriously, but she uses her empathy to figure out how fricked the situation is and pushes the lieutenant aside to take control, and she's also tough and has some muscle and can work alongside the Marines but isn't dependent on them. Hicks is also tough guy who is gonna waste Burke (the slimy corporate guy), but he's also empathetic and has a thoughtful side -- he's not a total jarhead -- and understands Ripley is onto something. Then you see Hudson who goes from being the ultimate badass Marine who talks about how the Marines will "protect" Ripley, but then turns into a blubbering baby screaming "game over, man!" Which has a hilarious effect but it's also because of the sudden reversal of roles. By the end of the movie, it's Ripley who is the ultimate badass because she's a mother and protector but also a warrior.
Damn I love that movie.
>The other main through-line is that Man's hubris is their downfall.
A bit like Dante's Inferno or something like that. I like how the "express elevator to hell" line is repeated later in the movie where Ripley descends into the literal "hell" of the alien underworld, the Alien queen being the equivalent of Satan:
the thing is it's not even "feminist". They had open casting for all roles, each part in the original movie was written to be played by any type of person no matter their race, sex, or gender.
Ripley is such a good character because she's not written as a woman, she's written as the intended role, who could be played by anyone
I'd say it's almost even an explicit anti-feminist movie
Bravo! You've hit the nail on the head. She's not a grrrrlboss, she's COMPETENT. She is observant, tech savy, willing to learn, practical. She is also scared like any other person in that situation would be. She overcomes and uses her smarts. Men and women all should aspire to that.
>feminist
You don't know what this word means, do you.
Post gun commie.
I'm sorry but I can't imagine the bonus situation being brought up by a different actor
Well, its not like you have modern all out warfare conducted in the movies. Even in Aliens you only have one pitiful ligtly squad of infantry in a shitty armored car with theoretical support of a single aircraft against entrenched hive full of drones. And the rest of the franchise got it even worse, humans being either unarmed civilians or moronic smugglers/military jannies in tight corridors of spacecrafts, where you cant even use explosives or crew served weapons for the fear of depressurization. The Space Marines from Aliens are not better equipped or trained than your average SWAT cops.
>tfw I'm about to spend all day researching Xenomorph biology knowing damn well it's going to come down to magic
It is sci-fi after all
>tfw no pics of whether or not the xenomorph statue with breasts that Giger made has a pussy or not.
It's Giger, it probably had like four pussies
>I'm going to live to watch the greats like Sigourney and Ahnald die within the next couple of decades
Might be only a decade, they were both frequent smokers when they were younger
The entire franchise plays very fast and loose with xeno durability. It's usually scaled to whatever they want to do with the scene, which annoys my consistency autism
Hell in Alien Isolation they made that fricker a tank that would only get momentarily staggered by buckshot point blank, because they wanted it to be an unstoppable force
It's pretty likely you're not dealing with the same drone every time, too.
Yeah realizing that retroactively was such a special moment
Frick that game was good, and we're never gonna get another like it because it didn't sell well.
To be fair, A:I was everything I could've wanted out of a love letter to the first film. It was lovely (if a bit long in places), and I'm happy with what I got.
I think its place in gaming will eventually spawn a proper followup. Not like Isolation Go, Jesus.
Something like a voxel-based game based on the fall of Hadley's Hope, where you build barricades and repair them while setting traps with seismic charges as your numbers dwindle and the Xenos' swell.
Like 7 Days to Die with acid blood mechanics.
TBF the buckshot might have killed it. It immediately flees to the vents (presumably to die), and because we know there are numerous xenomorphs on the Sevastopol, it could easily be a replacement xeno
I've never actually gotten it to flee with the shotgun, it's only staggered back for a moment
I'm surprised you even tried, I wouldn't even want to waste the shot with how rare non-flamethrower ammunition was
Which was probably intended to make the androids more threatening since a solid shotgun hit to the head usually flattened them
Some of that is fanwaved away with various arguments as regards the durability of Xeno carapace changing with age. Like, the Nostromo Alien, the "Big Fella" was squishier than the Hadley's Hope Warrior Aliens because its head-carapace was smooth, meaning it hadn't hardened yet. So the emergency grapnel... actually that's a whole nother argument over whether the grapnel went through it, into it, or just kind of brickbatted it.
Imma gonna leave this right here
It's comical how sneaky Aliens are when the movie needs them to be. Seriously, that soldier at 1:20 would have had to have stepped on the fricking thing. Also, AVP isn't canon.
>Also shown: 5.56 is perfectly sufficient for xenos, just like it is in the rest of the film where they get slaughtered with M4s by the dozen.
Explain yourself
its never going to happen, but I wish we got a remaster of this movie that wasn't so FRICKING GODDAMNED DARK ALL THE FRICKING TIME.
Good FRICK I hate mid 2000s horror movies so much
>They're ambush predators that physically overpower the average human
>They conveniently blend it perfectly with the industrial aesthetic of that universe's future architecture, the most obvious examples being in the 1st Alien where it can be spotted in the open several times but the characters (and me on first viewing) don't notice it
>You risk killing yourself if you kill it in close quarters, and at mid range if you use explosives
>In the movie settings, it's dangerous to kill one on a ship because the acid might eat through the bulkhead and you all get vented into space/asphyxiate from lack of oxygen
>In Aliens they already had a massive numbers advantage by the time the marines had arrived and had familiarized themselves with their environment
>They've been consistently shown to be smarter than the average ambush predators we're familiar with on Earth, between the fact they knew to cut the power and recognizing what buttons do/pressing them
>Their parasite implanters are ludicrously fast and extremely difficult to remove once they at minimum have their tail on you
>They don't show up on alternative light spectrums
>The marines were led by an inexperienced CO and an overly-confident NCO
Story lines require suspension of disbelief.
The Nostromo crew were literally blue-collar space truckers hauling a bunch of ore across the galaxy in a giant refinery, and had only flamethrowers and an unused laser pistol for defense.
The crew of the Sulaco were space marines, but they were inside a giant atmospheric processing station, which was one giant thermonuclear reactor. A stray shot rupturing a cooling pipe would have sent the whole thing nuclear. They also were limited to the ammo that they could carry, and a significant percentage of the colonists had been infected with chest-bursters, which then grew into an army of full-grown aliens. They are also far more intelligent and lethal to humans than any predatory animal on Earth.
What do xenomorphs eat? A male tiger has to consume 10-25lbs a day to survive, and they're of comparable size/power, but for every thing a xenomorph eats- that's one less future xenomorph. They also have thousands of tons of resin they shit everywhere so they're constantly consuming something. Xenomorphs as solitary super predators is a really cool idea. Xenomorphs as a bug hive is moronic and James Cameron is a hack.
they seem to be silicate based life instead of carbon like earth. This is known for its extremely funky properties if it would materialize as complex organic structures. So who the frick knows how its metabolism actually work. Maybe they dont even need to eat much (if any) but have set lifespan per drone
Would love to see a non moronic take on the xenos homeworld. Presuming they are indeed silicates and their natural ecologic system is biomechanical in nature with xenos being merely part of it. Also no, evil crazy robot did not make them, he pulled from blueprints stored in engi libraries
>what Prometheus could have been
The wrong Scott brother died
it is implied that since they're basically bioweapons they somehow have their own sustenance. the drool they continuously produce is supposed to be both lubricant and coolant for their bodies, which means they must pretty hot, which also means they have a source of heat and energy somewhere
in alien 3 it eats flesh tho
I always figured the acid blood pointed to them being a sort of biological battery.
That could work but how does it charge in the first place?
A reminder that the same scene that Vasquez blasts the ayy point blank with her handgun, the following scene where Gorman goes back for her shows him shooting at one down the vent shaft with his handgun (a VP70) and the rounds are sparking off of its carapace.
The movie is pretty inconsistent with their ballistic resistance.
Well Vasquez had a 1911, so what you're saying is .45>9mm?
>thermals
They're near invisible to thermals
>heat and cold
They're vulnerable to sudden shifts of temperatures(like practically every living thing) and not the temps themselves.
>idiots with inadequate gear
That's kinda the point of the series itself. Humans being incredibly greedy and conceited of their supposed superiority over lesser species because of muh tech.
The boomer comics of Battle for Earf shows how one ayylmao wreaked havoc on Earf.
You know these things are sci fi and dont exist...right
Xenos were a biological weapon en route to earth before the things got loose on the alien jockey ship and it crashed.
>Be ayyy military ship
>Your own bioweapon gets loose and you crash ship
Do ayyyys really?
What about the Predators? If i recall they show predators fighting Xenos in some planet for sport on the first AVP movie.
Did they meet the engineers before? Like "we like to hunt things, do you have something that can keep us entertained?"
Prometheus is hardly worth considering as canon. Same thing applies to any Alien movie after 2. The majority of the material exists for lols.
That planet was Earth. AVP purports that the Predators brought facehuggers to ancient Earth and used them on humans to create the ultimate hunt. It directly contradicts the story of Covenant. For lols, you see.
I was hoping Alien 3 would be about them finally wrecking havok on earth. Instead it was a rehash of 1 and a mediocre one at that.
Back when I saw Alien 3 I knew this movie series was not going to see a better sequel to Aliens. I was correct.
It's a film so its dumb. I think it would have been better to send in robots like they have collect the DNA sample and then just kill them from orbit or just poison them and just watch them all die. The films moronic but it's good watch
Bro, why can't I find this gun on the market anywhere?
I want a working replica. To clown off on the range. It doesn't even have to have a nade launcher. Underbarrel shotty tube is just fine.
Probably cause the vast majority of alien fans don't own guns. I'm sure it's full of toy replicas out there
Do you think this guy builds for personal orders? I'm willing to dish out a couple thousand.
>Bro, why can't I find this gun on the market anywhere?
I can't find one of those swords from The Beastmaster. If I'd known a bunch were for sale in 2019 I would've bought one.
Assuming that you need at least armor-piercing 5.56 to penetrate aliens, a single queen could depopulate some backwater place in a week. The queen is shown to lay an egg quite fast, lets say once every 20 seconds. Assuming that she can keep this pace indefinitely, that's 4320 face huggers in a single day. At least one of which should be another queen. In a week, you got 30k aliens from the first hive, mostly eggs and facehuggers. An entire village could go missing and nobody would realize it. Anyone who goes investigate either finds nothing or meets the same fate, as they wont be equipped to face a threat they've no idea of. Even when it becomes clear and believed by the authorities (or some tribal leader) that there's monsters running about, the first ones will likely tote only AKs and such. Terror and superstition alone will make most just disobey orders and flee. By the time the military is deployed with heavy weapons, it might take a long time to find the hive entrance tucked in some corner. By that time the drones have burrowed hundreds of kilometers underground and set up new hives with new queens. Even nuking each found entrance wouldn't eradicate us if the human reaction was too slow.
>us
chitinous hands typed this
So the characters actually were supposed to be stupid? I can almost forgive this movie now
>Assuming that she can keep this pace indefinitely, that's 4320 face huggers in a single day. At least one of which should be another queen. In a week, you got 30k aliens from the first hive, mostly eggs and facehuggers.
Those 30k all need a host. Where could 30k people go missing and no one notice or fight back? A facehugger can be stomped on and killed. You can beat one with a broom. Very few environments allow that many to be made AND allow them cover to sneak up on people
Yeah I agree, the plot should have been human elites who have betrayed humanity for security, luxury and power helped bring about the infestation, not these "psychic power" queens.
Face huggers can impregnate predators. They're way too tough to handle without weapons.
>Face huggers can impregnate predators.
Yeah. That doesn’t mean predators can’t kill them. They catch their host by surprise, that’s how they work.
>They're way too tough to handle without weapons.
Why? It’s smaller than a human head. Why can’t a even large stick smash one? Or pin it down? Are you saying a human can’t hold down a 5-10lb animal?
I randomly picked a spot in Nigeria named Ajaokuta and it seems perfect. There's bunches of huts all around the town, secluded enough in forests to disappear overnight without anyone realizing the danger. That's a total of 122k Xenos right there. 230 million xenos for all of Nigeria.
How can 1/4 of their city go missing in a couple days and no one notices? That’s the point you are missing.
its a shithole in africa that doesn't even have a working railway connecting it with the outside world and a singular road running through the town, the giant unfinished steel mill seems like a great place to hide a hive. and even if some locals managed to get away by boat the nigerian officials aren't going to buy their crazy story that a whole city got taken and turned into demons. also if you take a gander at the place in maps there is tonnes of wilderness for them to hide in if the steel mill doesn't work out. africa can't even stop poachers, how do you think they will stop a run away xeno infestation.
I’m not asking about “officials” or word getting out elsewhere. I’m talking about people WITHIN the area. If all of a sudden 25% of your neighbors disappeared overnight you wouldn’t notice? If an entire section of the city or town you lived in became empty overnight no one would notice? Not one of the 30k people can kill it when attacked or escape and tell others? Not one gets impregnated and escapes and dies and gets noticed? Come on
ironically it being a 3rd world shithole means its probably more personally connected then a 1rst world apartment building. so people would notice pretty quickly, but when there are few aliens I'm sure a lot of it could be explained away by wild animal attacks or man on man violence. the biggest danger to the aliens is the first one randomly dying due to something stupid happening, like getting hit by a car or trying to crawl over a roof that can't support it or something like that (or for that matter getting gored by an angry buffalo). africa is probably pretty well armed all things considered too so I'm sure they'll nab a few with their rusty AK's or old WW2 surplus they have gotten their hands on, but between the local wildlife (cattle especially) very small isolated villages and the like I can easily see a xeno infestation hypothetically reaching critical mass to start just rolling over smaller towns before anyone really notices.
I should say "before anyone who can do anything about it notices" it doesn't really matter if isolated actors realize what is going on because they can't stop it. the odds of some random african tribe going uganda commandos on a hive and winning is probably not that high.
There’s a good chance all the xeno’s get aids. Can acid blood deal with the gay disease?
kek, aids is a virus (HIV) where the H stands for human, so probably
Geiger had a pretty sick mind.
Spiders with penises....eeewww, the sick germanoid mind is evil.
Wouldnt this easily be solved by using an army synthetics decked out like terminators?
It could, but IIRC the use of androids is heavily regulated by human governments due to an android uprising that happened in the distant past. Weyland-Yutani does make extensive and illegal use of combat androids but trusting W-Y to solve a xenomorph problem is obviously a bad idea.
I don't know which species is worse, you don't see them fricking each other over for a god damn percentage.
You know if multiple hives exist in proximity I wouldn't be surprised if they would, I mean every other species does it.
Test
>Alien
It's a bunch of essentially merchant mariners in space with improvised weapons vs an ambush predator that they know nothing about.
>Aliens
Marines take massive casualties and lose most of their ammo in the reactor where they were forced to use extremely limiting weapons and tactics. The full unit, with all of their weapons and equipment, would have fricking slaughtered the entire hive, but probably still have taken some casualties.
>everything else
Is terribly written garbage not even worth addressing.
>they were forced to use extremely limiting weapons and tactics
That's part of how xenomorphs operate, it wasn't an accident. They're not just dumb animals, remember?
aliens' mcguffin was the xeno magically teleporting behind ferro's seat and disabling the cheyenne, destroying the APC and most of their weapons, ammo, supplies and evac/recon vehicle
>xeno magically teleporting behind ferro's seat
you mean ferro and his moronic buddy leaving open the rear ramp in the middle of an infested warzone?
They were dead from the moment they landed and just stood there for hours.
I thought they specifically landed so he could wee.
The poor fool should have brought a jar.
