How much kickback would a pistol that size have?

enough that a guy who can flip over tanks really struggles with it apparently

That's what kind of bugged me about Halo, if you're a thousand pound super soldier that can flip a tank over why would recoil even be a thing?
A spartan 2 in mjolnir should be able to shoulder fire a 20mm anti tank rifle like a normal man would a .22

because every playtester shot the admiral the moment they got it

It's a situation where you've made any further progress in the game impossible without causing a game-over outright. The Captain is a major character, so when you kill him the story cannot go on. The game turns the ship's security forces against you in an unwinnable battle where you can try to survive as long as you can, but you ultimately have to reset the game to advance further.

            cool gonna try this.

As mentioned before, it's unloaded for gameplay purposes. From a lore perspective the magnum has an immense amount of recoil, IIRC a normal human would break their arm trying to use it so it's carried ceremonially

        >IIRC a normal human would break their arm trying to use it so it's carried ceremonially
No. We have a literal .50 BMG pistol (12.7x99 which is a larger round than the Halo pistol) and it recoils a lot but no one breaks anything shooting it. Pic related.

He gives it to you, and you don't walk over any as you leave. They just wait till you're on your way out before they have Chief loaded, I guess so that you aren't tempted to give the Captain a canoe rack or something

it would have taken you 5 seconds to check this, but you didn't. you might think it happened, because it seemed logical that it should have - and infact it was supposed to. in a leaked august 2001 version of the game you pick up the ammo from a dead crew member in the hallway where you pull out your gun, but due to a regression it never made it into the final game

I had a mix of men and women. More women than men, and most were good or - at worst - indifferent. One of the most unsympathetic, autistic teachers I ever had was a woman who taught trig. She actually used to be an actuary but told us she quit because she found it too impersonal. Considering her personality, we all of us were rather curious how bad it must have been at the time.

except it was loaded - the magazine was half full and there was a round in the chamber. i guess he just never checked! keyes was obviously a maniac. he also risked landing the ship manually even though cortanas subroutines could have done it perfectly, and for no reason other than because hes out of his mind. then he left alpha base and decided to blow up a weapons cache with a platoon of marines in a swamp for some reason even though hes nearly 60 years old.

I dont have excuse for him going in manual aside from possibly some old fashioned idea of the captain going down with his ship but Keyes deployed to the flood containment facility because intel was already aware of the significance of the site and forward observers noticed the covenant force occupying it had disappeared.
It was a dumb move for sure but given that they were already standing on a galaxy ending superweapon I can unserstand Keyes deciding that anything important enough to marked higher priority than that by the rings subsystems was worth seeing in person

2 was the most cinematic and simply ebin but CE with its glorious guns and MC controlling like a slow floaty beachball and the moronic indestructible vehicle physics where you could just launch warthogs across entire levels was definitely something special. 2 ending on a cliffhanger was a huge punch to the balls. 3 was genuinely great too even if it's not quite on the same level as the first two
