I'm going hunting for the first time in about a month. Going to Montana for mule deer.
I'm probably overthinking it, but I don't really know what to bring as far as clothes and gear. I appreciate any advice or recommendations.

Are you going with someone? Ask them what you should bring.
It really depends. Are you going in farmland or deep bush? Deer hunting is pretty casual, you just need to know your local laws about clothing colour and type of gun you’re permitted to use.
Clothing color isn't important. Deer are colorblind. Every deer I've killed I was wearing jeans and a hoodie or flannel. You're grandpa wore the same outfit when he killed deer.
Cervids aren't colour blind; they're dichromatic. They can perfectly see shades of blue and yellow, but not red and green.
look things up before you vomit them out, deer can see in blues and greens and that's about it. Took 30 seconds.
They can't see green. They basically have Protanopia (red-green colour blindness). They can see blue and yellow and that's it. It's also the reason you shouldn't wear muh jeans and a traffic vest while deer hunting.
I mean legally. In some areas you’re required by law to wear a certain amount of hunter orange.
The color isn't for the deer, it's for the jumpy or drunk idiots who may just shoot at any movement they think is an animal. Basically a bit of moron protection.
but what if I want to be shot?
>Montana
>in about a month
prepare for winter.
Take someone who knows what they're doing it helps a lot.
I failed at hunting for 3 years before I found an old man sage to teach me. Then I was getting near state records sized turkeys every fall.
I'm a vegetarian now after realizing I really only like the hunt up until the killing part, and can get almost the same thing from photography.
I had an experience where I was out of bullets and had to cut the throat of a stunned injured deer that didn't help either. Be aware that can definitely happen. At that point will you be able to justify the experience as someone who is only hunting for sport in a world where you could afford to buy or grow organic produce? I couldn't.
By all means don't say anything about the only interesting thing you mentioned (the old man) and please talk more about how you're a vegetarian photographer (gay)
homosexual.
>repressing
>lashes out at others
many such cases. sad!
hunting to birding pipeline
because mono crop agriculture definitely doesn't also result in the death of many many animals. dog eat dog world out there, and we gotta eat mayne. (but by all means you do you, I appreciate that you didn't grand stand)
>out of bullets
why would i ever be out of rounds while hunting
because it never happened. he's just a reddit tourist
ngmi
This story is bait. Literally no reason to be out of ammo. He's trying to bait us with 90% of the story being about vegetarianism
Never could have seen this coming in a thread about hunting.
You need winter gear
boots, not shoes
2x extra socks
quick drying hunting pants (wind and bristle resistant)
optics 8x42 or better
any backpack
any tent
10F sleeping bag + thermarest x-therm
t-shirt
fleece hoodie
2x longsleeve tops
thick long johns
winter puffy jacket and pants
wind jacket
rain jacket and pants
kill kit
>optional
gaiters
trekking pole
tarp
foam pad
This is good. I have a lot of this already, but there are a few things I don't have.
So it's your first time hunting and you are going for a multi day mule deer hunt in the back country of Montana with no idea what to even bring and no guide experienced enough to advise you?
Yeah, moron LARP thread of the highest order.
Where did you see me discuss who I'm going with? I get that it's fun to be antagonistic to people online, but unless you're 16 years old, you probably don't have a reason to act like that. You can keep your shitty opinions to yourself and get on with your day.
You are not going anywhere because this entire thread was an embarrassingly weak attempt at LARPing from the beginning. And I won't even mention the sub zero IQ fuddtard taking the bait and coming in here listing baby's first vocab "boots" and "winter clothes" as unironic gear advice.
I BTFO'd your thread in the bud and now you must seethe.
I guess you would know.
Add hand and feet warmers. Some last for 10+ hours and make your pockets or gloves all toasty
>hurr durr you need boots and clothes!
No shit, moron. Your whole list is useless and vague. Also, where did OP even say it was a multi day hunt?
>hurrduurr you need boots and clothes!
>I don't really know what to bring as far as clothes and gear.
>vague
>list is quite specific
Are you always a complete fricking moron or are you just having a bad day?
>decent list
>wind jacket
>rain jacket
I usually use my rain jacket as my wind jacket...its just as effective and saves space
Bring the same stuff you brought last month.
I took up gardening. I had some help from my sister who os much older than me. I was growing large quatities of delicious tomatoes and peppers and then they started talking to me, dont cut me dont cut me. I decided to just eat meat from hunting because the joy in harvest was the same and the deer were hurting the vegatables. Deer dont talk either, they just make incoherent noises as the flame thrower covers them in alcohol gel blue flames. I eat the backstrap and leave the rest for the Indians.
