How would you accurately depict a post apocalyptic wasteland on screen?

For the record, I don’t think the fallout show is bad, it wasn’t great but it exceeded my low expectations
I’m just wondering how anons here would make it

If I had a female protag, chances are high that raiders would kill or enslave her and then the show would carry in with her brother or some sort of relative trying to save her
It would switch back and forth from how the guy would travel from the ends of the wasteland to save/avenge his relative and how the captive would survive and manipulate her way to the top. The twist being that by the time the brother or whoever got to where she was, she was already in charge and unwilling to return due to being corrupted by her abuse and newfound power

the issue I've always had with Bethesda Fallout is how far in the future they set their version of the story compared to the Interplay games, yet they want to lean in hard to the look and desolation of a freshly destroyed city
Fallout 1 takes place less than 100 years after the war and it depicts above ground cities where they've established a perimeter and cleaned up all the debris and trash, and have an industrial base capable of making habitable buildings and new materials. same with Fallout 2 which is 80 years later
then with Fallout 3/4 which take place like 50 years after Fallout 2, Bethesda went with an urban Mad Max look where everything is cobbled together from the fragments of material left by prewar society and they effectively produce nothing new on their own. trash is everywhere, rotting pre-war corpses are everywhere despite it now being 200 years removed from the war.
the thing that made this stick to me was finding a shop in Fallout 4 that was based out of a diner, where the proprietor also lived. it was filled with trash and corpses literally 10 feet from where the owner slept, like she had just moved in an hour ago but the dialog implied she'd been there for years.
the show has doubled down on this look despite taking place even FURTHER along the timeline.
the only time this look made sense was in Fallout 76 which is less than 20 years post-war and looks identical to Bethesda's games that take place 150+ years later
so if you want to have a Mad Max/Terminator look to your setting, put it less than 20 years after the end of the world. anything beyond that and you have to start depicting society as having started to pick up the pieces.

well gratz on noticing what anybody with any rough sense of scale and time has noticed. Sayed it back with F3 release: remove one zero from the 200 years and it looks a whole lot less moronic. Same with F4.

Until then sit back and enjoy the mental gymanstics of bethtards. They are a really special bunch

Edgerunners showed that to take full advantage of all the outlandish elements present in vydia it would have to be animated show. As for what to do one plot would be the glow syle scavenger hunt depicting all of the mutation and dangerous ruins left from the old world

What do you mean "accurately"? That depends on the apocalypse. Does it follow a nuclear Holocaust, a natural catastrophe, a meteor, an actual fricking biblical apocalypse going full Revelations? Either way, It'd probably be pretty weak. Humanity reduced to its most desperate and most pathethic. Crawling in the dirt and awaiting it's demise.

      Edgrerunners was fricking trash, man.

Ever since Fallout 4, Bethesda's depicted the Wasteland as being too bright, colorful, and clean; the OPPOSITE of what a post-apocalyptic environment is supposed to look like.

I actually liked the art style of 4 but they took it too far with 76 and now this piece of shit show.

Just replayed NV back in February. I was surprised at how colorful but MATURE the art style is. The colors are very tasteful and look like something you'd actually see in reality.

If you were older tha 5 years old in the 00s/10s you would have been the moron screeching about how games are to brown, grey and dull and that fallout should have more greenery after so much time had passed. I agree with that last point and was pleased to see they fixed that in the show

Like Fo3 with the mod "Realistic HDR weathers" sun bleached and realistic but very obviously lifeless, with some scenes having more exaggerated weathers for intensity (think of the Divide from lonesome road), Also pre war ruins are all gray with color remaining on them (Frick Fallout 4). Fallout at its core like to have a lifeless wasteland with the only source of greenery being man-made farms or the odd Oasis like Zion Valley that becomes a source of conflict.
Its not exactly "realistic" but it would certainty it would be great to see true Fallout in live action.

No idea, but it can't be cheap. I've noticed a huge uptick in people praising the show on Facebook and Instagram from accounts that look older but really aren’t. It's gotten a lot more sophisticated. The biggest giveaway is seeing these fake accounts joining a fan or meme page less than a month ago, saying and interacting with nothing on the page, and then immediately coming out of the woodwork the day the show drops talking about how great it is.

you should call it ESG, because that's what it is. Corporate control over environmental, social, and governance narratives. they rebranded it so they could claim anyone who's against this is racist.

The only thing I've so far disliked is how they've handled the ghoul, and that they went with Fallout 4 "Everyone wears garbage as clothing and lives in heaps of garbage" aesthetic.

Some fanservice to keep it going some one shoe on one shoe off stuff from girl lead to keep certain viewers happy but apple TV diversity in past and vault scenes gives it a weird uncanny valley.

At least for me, fallout worked because of the contrast between the ultra voilence and the music, radio hosts and NPCs. Its gritty but almost cynical in its goofy moments. Blowing up a horde of raiders with uppity 40s and 50s will always be fun.
This contrast is almost non existent in the show. Even the "dark" moments are supposed to be funny.
Storywise its hard to say, all main quests are shit, they should have done a "villian of the week" type of style. The vault sweller has to solve quests in order to progress, nothing is free in the wasteland after all.
And for gods sake, loot the enemies. Thats what pissed me off the most, those noggers just don´t take the weapons or any kind of loot
