I think I might take up shooting as a hobby.
I'm not completely new to shooting, but I've never put in the effort to get good at it.
I have this 22lr revolver and a suitable desert shooting range nearby but I don't know what specifically I should be doing to develop my skills.
I was thinking of starting with target shooting first to learn to shoot accurately.
Can anyone recommend online resources for pistol target shooting like drills, results analysis, remedial actions etc?
Any advice is appreciated.
1) revolvers are gay
2) you don't have enough ammo
3) even if you had enough ammo, your gay revolver only has six shots
Why are revolver flags like this?
It's nine shots. NINE!
This is the gun I have at the moment. If I get into it I'll spring for a Ruger Mark IV with all the goodies.
I also have a M1911, but 45apc is a lot more expensive than 22lr.
>still below 2 digit numbers
You're missing the point
>he needs a double digit ammo capacity to get a good hit on a target
Maybe you should be practicing the fundamentals with OP rather than acting like you know anything.
see
>t. needs 15+1 to cope with 13 missing
>I will only ever face one target at a time in a real life scenario
>I can handle 9 targets cause I have 9 rounds
next I'm sure you'll start preaching about stopping power
>>I can handle 9 targets cause I have 9 rounds
The most targets someone has ever had to engage in any self defense situation that wasn't clearly a last stand that the defender had the option to avoid entirely stands at 4. You will never be an action hero.
And he did it with a revolver.
>And he did it with a revolver.
There have been one or two other people who have managed to rack up 4 attackers shot in a single self defense shooting. Bernhard Goetz is the only person who has managed to do so with a handgun though.
You shouldn't be carrying a gun if you think you'll be sending that many shots wild.
>You shouldn't be carrying a gun if you think you'll be sending that many shots wild.
You're right, there's ABSOLUTELY ZERO chance with 2-3 home invaders encroaching on your property at frick-all in the morning that you'll need anything more than 6 rounds. The extra 3 are just aesthetic. What could possibly go wrong when your tired ass is arming at people actively avoiding you?
Kys. You have 9 rounds; don't miss.
You are a brainless motherfricker if you think you will land all 9 shots against 2-3 targets in a real scenario.
I've never even faced one target in a real life scenario. It's unlikely that I will. It's even less likely that I'll face multiple. A revolver is classy and fun. You're just mad you don't live in a white neighborhood.
>round count and accuracy are mutually exclusive
Ahh, I've entered a moron thread.
OP, don't listen to this homosexual: . What you should do is go shooting a few times and get on target with your gun with the target not more than 10 yards away from you, then go take a handgun shooting class. Take what you learn from the instructor and practice it on your own, moving the target further out as your groups get tighter.
>10 yards away from you
This is sort of what I've been doing. Formal instruction would probably be a good idea to avoid wasting time or developing any bad habits out of ignorance.
I should be able to shoot once a week or so as the range is nearby free to use and 22lr affordable and easy to get.
This sounds like a LOT of fun, though I thought I'd start with basic accuracy first.
>revolver shooting skills you develop aren't going to completely translate to a semi auto pistol
Interesting, I did not know this. I'll have to do some research on this.
Good to know I have a good starter gun and I do like the sights on it.
If you can't make this shot you don't get to say MUH CAPASHITTY.
>implying you'd be able to make that shot with a shitty DA revolver
You're gay
Fricking lame-ass response. kys.
My best advice would be to either take a class, or go with a friend that knows what they're doing. Only caveat, even though you have a friend that has a gun, doesn't necessarily mean that they have good 'best practices'. Assuming you don't have a friend that likes shooting, and you're not a total sperg, you can always go to the range and try to make a friend or two. Shooting is a really great hobby, and besides people like the homosexual above, people are typically pretty welcoming if you have questions.
Nice gat. Is it a Sentinel? I'm searching for a nice 4" Sentinel but they are rare over here.
Go on YouTube "carry trainer" and sort for the really long videos.
Than it's all about training often. Most guys just buy the stuff and don't bother with the skills behind it.
Use eye and ear protection.
Have fun
It's J.C. Higgins which was a house brand sold by Sears Roebuck in the US. Apparently it's manufactured by High Standard.
It's well made though the cylinder crane arms seems to have gotten loose and the cylinder has rubbed the frame when the cylinder was swung out.
Yeah than it's a Hi standard Sentinel. There's a website about them at unblinkingeye dot something
Nice. I envy you. Want one for my classic Americana guns collection.
If money is a concern, get yourself a Beeman air pistol. When I don't have the time to drive to the range, I just shoot at 2" targets at 10 yards in my shop instead
>unblinkingeye
Oh nice. I might take a look at the crane arm to see why the cylinder is rubbing on the frame.
You should get that looked at professionally, op, a bent crane arm can cause a number of dangerous malfunctions including the cylinder being out of timing, which is extremely dangerous. A little bit will cause bullets to shave or be fragmented, a lot causes the bullet to impact the forcing cone, with catastrophic results.
I thought about that when I first noticed the problem as I'm aware there can be issues with cylinder alignment.
The crane arm isn't bent, the hinge point has a bit of play in it. The cylinder, bushing and arbor are snug and everything locks up nicely when the cylinder is in and the trigger is pulled.
With a 22, it's not that big a deal. I have a shitty 22 revolver that times poorly and it just throws lead out the side.
Point gat at target
Shoot target
Repeat until gud
Set up targets at multiple ranges made of hardened steel and engage them at different ranges in quick succession.
Simple as.
Like, engage the 100 yard first, the the 75 yard, the 50 yard, the. Attack at random the plethora of 25,20,15, 10 and 7 yard steel targets you have as fast as possible
OP, we are revolver newbie twins. I don't know if this is good advice, but I'm making it my goal to go to the range and shoot a box of .38 SPL at least once a month. I'm taking notes about my performance. Next trip I'll use standard handgun targets and post them here for anons to shit on.
Based and same. I just bought a revolver but I have til next week to pick it up because muh wait period.
I love .22lr, best round for learning to shoot. Just keep in mind that the revolver shooting skills you develop aren't going to completely translate to a semi auto pistol.
>Seething about some cool anon posting some cool 22 wheely and asking nicely for advices
homosexual post from a homosexual cowadoddy teenager nogun. You have to be an adult to post here, son. Go be a homosexual somewhere else.
Practice
Set improvement goals
Achieve them
Repeat
Seriously just shoot a lot and you'll get good.
Don't expect to master a manual of arms in under 1000 rounds.
Sorta true, but like golf you run the risk of developing bad habits that are time consuming to correct. I got into shooting with little direction and had to relearn a few things about a year In.
Perfect to practice target shooting. The sights are tall, adjustable, seems alright. When you get gud with your revolver, you will be shooting glocks this utter homosexual zoomie that replied above
This should get you started OP.
Looking for a clearer version of that. I will unironically print and use it at the range.
Coudn't find it so I made one for myself
The people who think that equipment is a substitute for marksmanship and dexterity are fools.
OP. Your gun is perfectly acceptable as a trainer. Ideal, even, since the cpr won't make your wallet wince every time you pull the trigger. Read some shit online to familiarize yourself with the controls. Just buy some paper targets and punch holes in them. If you wanna plink cans or whatever that is fine too. When you start feeling comfortable you can do some drills for fast fire, switching targets, or move the target out a little farther. You will know when you want to make the transition to high speed low drag operator, and the resources will be there when you do.
GOOLD???
Did you read the Git Good Guide?
No, where is it? I didn't see anything like that in the wiki.
Look in /hg/. I think it's usually at the top but not today. Someone posted downthread.
>Git Good Guide

This link wants to install all kinds of shady browser extensions and shit. I'll have to do without it.
This is probably the right move.
No, you don't need to install the shady browser extension.
I can't seem to get to a download link, only shit.
I don't need this that badly.
Try clicking the Download button and letting the new tab open. Then right click on that same Download button (on the first tab, not the one that opened) and save as.
Different person, but did that work for you? I eventually just got a 502 bad gateway error.
Yes it did. Click on the link above and it will go to bayfiles. Then click on the yellow Download button there. It opens a new tab. Ignore that tab. Go back to the bayfiles tab and right click on that yellow button.
I did. I had to disable all my browser security to do it, in particular the pop-up blocking in Chrome, but I finally got it.
Works on my machine dude
OP, take lessons.
Go look up the fundamentals of handgun shooting and remember: stance, grip, sight picture, trigger control, follow through, and breathing. Grip, sight control, and trigger control are the most important.
Okay use this if you couldn't get it

Thanks dude
Not a break action so we don't need to worry about Styx
