am too stupid. it gets hot, but as soon as I put the pot on it starts to smoke badly. So I have to let it burn down to coal. But either way it's not enough to let water boil. The pot can contain about 1 litre of water. Help me please

you didn't read the cooking thread.... poor sweet summer child... the anon shilling these wood stoves on this board said he's never gone backpacking before only kayaking. make a supercat or fancee feast and don't listen to children on PrepHole again.
Leave a gap between the pot and the stove .....
yes yes! That's why I constructed that screen mesh ontop. Didn't work well
You need more airflow at the top than that... Nvm, u ngmi
rude
ah I got it, drilled more holes which didn't do much. But I changed my technique, filled it up with cut down twigs first and let it burn troughly, then put pot on. Refilled only one more piece of twig at a time so there'd be always a fire burning. After 4 pieces one after another it started to boil. I had to innitially lift up the pot for a short time for each new piece. So I guess I require a stand regardless even with the thing I put on already
ah ok you got it. small twig fires have to be maintained
never seen one that small
yes now I try to figure out how to make a stand seperated or connected which holds the pot slightly above it. dunno what exactly maybe three long bolts and a frame
So how long did it take from first lighting the fire to boiling water?
20 minutes? Maybe a bit more. tried out a contraption with sturdy wires, but it's not level, so I guess best way is a seperated stand with 3 same sized standers slightly higher than my hobo stove. Looked trough some junk I have lying around, nothing fits. Don't want to buy or weld some piece of shit together, rather do it hobo style.
based OP making all the gasgays seethe
thread theme btw
when are ya gonna do your first backpacking trip? rule 2 etc.
Backpacking is not the only way of enjoying nature. Stop gatekeeping.
AHH YEA i got it. gonna remove the screen mesh part, connect 3 90 degree angles I havs lying around at the same height on the outer tin. tomorrow
that's a dumb question but is there a way to check if the steelware I have is suitable for putting over a fire? I have never cooked anything in the open, so I've put a bunch of the steel things I own on my gas stove with water inside, nothing happened. am I good for putting them over a twig stove?
Ngmi
you mean the cooking ware itself? I just use this old steel pot. Just try it out and keep in mind it's gonna get smokey, your pot will get this ugly patina and will smell like your clothes.
stop rude posting omg
Ngmi
I like to think of the soot as a tactical, camouflage, survival coating on my tactical steel cup. Picture related.
made him a friend 😀
>inside
I cut 4 slots into the top, maybe it's enough for airflow while a pot is on
>bottom
single tin had the bolts as legs first, but made it topple once a pot is placed and wobbled
basically if your fire is smokey, it needs more air/more time to start burning properly.
those are very small stoves for a wood fire imho. it will take a long time to boil water and lots of re-fueling.
Personally with such a small stove, i wouldn't bother with the internal can, maybe there is some rocket-stove mechanics i don't fully understand but just holes in the can for air, fuel ???? PROFIT!
you are a nice kind of autism anon, keep practising, i want you to make it.
Isn't a bit of fat somewhat good to have in a survival situation? Just a bit of plump like Ray. It's an energy reserve as well as insulation in the cold.
the absolute genius
Ray aside, if you look at bushmen in the middle of the Amazon rainforest or Africa, Inuits, etc. they're not built like people who hit the gym, they have a normal amount of fat. Actually none of the hardcore PrepHole people on the planet look like zero body fat fitness types.
Now that I think of it all my favorite PrepHole people are at least a bit plump. Ray, Paul Kirtley, Lonnie from Far North Bushcraft...
Mears is a hack
Probably but at least he gives good info. Grylls is just PrepHole flavored Jackass
they're so cute
gonna fire them up at night
gota chink solostove clone i bought for 1/10th of the solostove price, it's about same size of the "titan"
only used it a handful of times but it isn't instant like using gas, even in the dry hot summer i still burn down twigs until i get a red hot smokeless ember bottom before i put my pot WITH WATER on
it's basically a bonfire in a box if you put your pot on too early you'll get smoke soot and a fire that's choking
cant test out my 3 tin can friends, we got our cloths on the balcony, tomorrow
why not test in the back alley or park?
ah me lazy me can't maybe tonight but if anything it was a test to see how I can boil water on my balcony without any electricity and minimal effort
