how to block smell?

i need to clean out a fridge that someone left food that has been disconnected for 6 months.
i opened the door and i almost puked at how rancid the thing smelt.

do you guys have any ideas on how i can help block the smell when i empty the contents in a trash bag? im thinking of just soaking a bandana in vinegar and wrapping that around my face, but im not sure that would do anything.

      You dumb poo poo head.
Literally just deal with it, wear a respirator or leave the door open & air out.
Like the frick you think you can do? It takes <1m to empty a fridge and <10 minutes to empty an American fridge.

Next I guess you wanna know how you can get rid off the smell. Frick that, pay up b***h.

Standard safety mask with an organic vapours filter. 3M or whatever brand from any store that sells safety gear.
Do this shit outside obviously and don't do it near any pets, cause that kind stuff can just kill em outright.

    did this multiple times cleaning out foreclosed homes, would obviously recommend proper PPE but you can also just hold your breath and run away when you run out. Seems Primitive but if you are poor you must sometimes muscle through the smells. Firefighters used to breathe through their mustaches :}

throw charcoal in the fridge and leave it there to absorb the smell, then buy a respirator

This, also for your face, just use a corona mask, they don't block everything but usually enough

Nylon strapping tape is ideal for that. Buy or rent a hand truck (everyone should own at least one. I have four and want more).

NTA but it’s Considered hazardous waste because of the refrigerant where I’m at. You can’t just dump the whole thing.

My mom moved into a foreclosed house and the shed had a freezer with a lock on it. I was pretty much expecting a serial killer style body inside because of the smell. Was filled with deer meat or something.

I had to pull a chest freezer full of rotten hog out of my uncle's when he passed. Despite what you'd think, you actually can throw up and run backwards at the same time. From what professionals told me, even expensive ass respirator suits don't entirely stop smells like this. Take the tape/chain it shut idea from the other anon, but just take it outside where you can more easily stand taking care of it. No reason to get caught doing something stupid.

    >when i empty the contents
Why would you bother? That refrigerator is done, that stink has soaked itself permanently into the refrigerator's insulation. Get a roll of duct tape, seal up the thing permanently, toss it in a truck, and bring it to the dump.

Boxes of baking soda will absorb some of the smell but don't expect miracles

You can't save or salvage a fridge that's had spoiled food in it for that length of time. Even if you manage to throw out all the items the putrid smell will remain forever locked in the pipes of the fridge.

Throw the entire appliance out with the contents still inside.

peppermint oil; a small drop on the area under your nose on a surgical mask. body disposal teams and surgical crew do this to hide the smell of rot and festering tissue.
