Nothing, people just hate it because you die a lot at first and spend a lot of time irradiated, hungry, bleeding and broke.
Personally I like it and once you get a decent rifle and something that keeps you from being OHK'd by a bandit with a Tokarev and from getting lethal radiation dose just from walking past a car, you're golden.

This video is exactly why I never played the game. It seemed janky to me when it came out where I was told by friends that 'there is no point running good gear, some naked guy with an axe will bum rush you and take your shit'. But he is right that it has the best (theoretical) gun system in FPS. Just wish it would, you know, become good.

What makes Tarkov realistic is the fighting.

You can have a standoff last 20-30 minutes. There's not many other games that does that.
Shooting someone 60 times to then run off behind a bush or into a building to heal yourself to then repeat the process at least 3 times isn't what I would say is realistic.

Tarkov hasn't been realistic for years. It tried to encapsulate the murder hobo arena shooter cancer that it spawned from thanks to DayZ and turned into what's basically a multiplayer deathmatch. Bullet values are regularly adjusted for game balance, rather than realistic performance, there are entire categories of meta weapons and builds for them because the system balances for the game rather than realism. Then you have a billion cheaters.

Now you have a game which was full of COD players sprinting and jumping all over the level in the gamiest way possible that is now grounded, difficult, and pretty realistic, with unpredictable AI that varies widely in equipment and skill and actively loots the map. There's also a full simulated economy, overhauled ballistics and armor, new medical system, ammo and resource scarcity, high ready/low ready/short stocking keybinds, and more. You can move more like a normal person would move (carefully and trying to avoid detection) until you get in an unexpected fight and get a burst of action. Great game

the thing i hate most about tarkov is how long it takes to actually BEGIN playing. its +5mins to build a loadout, 5 mins to load in, 3 mins of running towards the area of the map that matters, 5 seconds to die from someone you cant see and another 2 minutes to load back into the main menu.
