Not that significant unless you have drones bombing important infrastructure en masse.

Unless youre talking about intelligence then its fricking amazing. Having them hover over an area for hours on end without the concern of pilot fatigue. Awesome.

Which could happen if WW3 takes place.

Imagine a factory churning out hundreds or thousands of loitering drones each with a small explosive strapped to it and a target seeking radar. PER DAY.

Another drone type could be a handful of large drone flying over head giving constant 24/7 surveilance of the urban fighting via SAR technology that can see the entire field in any weather condition/day-night cycles/any blockage. Operating 50 km above the surface and protected by a swarm of guardian drones that shoot down anything that threatens it.

    seems great for artillery spotting

Pretty big until some real anti-drone doctrine beyond "shoot it down" or "jam its frequency" is developed.

This, especially if drone swarms are able to be effectively deployed with no effective countermeasures. We might need to go back to good old fashioned AAA

if we take ukraine as example then not much
unless you somehow launch a big attack a seriously big attack to strike targets at the same time

otherwise eventually they gonna get shot down and get done with it

      >if we take ukraine as example then not much

Ukraine is heavily relying on all sorts of drones for surveillance. The artillery and ambushes rely on them.

The TB2 also played an important part of keeping the northwestern half of the country secure during the early stage of the war by pushing Russian forces back towards the border regions of the south and east.

wtf are you smoking? did you watch the same war as we did?

did you forgot that the russians had set up 4 FOB's after 2 weeks of sitting there doing frick all? drones were doing frick all up there because it was actually protected by EW (since that group did actually had proper comms not fricking walkie talkies)

Good/cheap against countries without solid multi layer AA. And keep in mind, Russian AA is Africa tier.

They're not. They're just a new aspect of warfare that has to be integrated into combined arms doctrine.
The only way they're a gamechanger is if your enemy fails to follow developments and integrate them into their systems.

They are the ultimate spotters and forward observers.

Drones are the current meta game of the Ukrainian war. Drones flying over enemy detecting position and artillery or missiles strikes out targets.

I don’t even know what drone means anymore. Is it just an unmanned aircraft? Will 6th gen jets be considered drones since they’ll be able to fly and land on their own if need be?

The RQ-180 is the size of a U-2 spy plane. So size isn’t even a differentiator anymore.

I was a UAS operator inna .mil. No one professionally calls them drones. It's a thing the news took and ran with for some reason.

        What in moronation?
Yes we do call them drones.
You try and get these Kunkle draggers to use the terms TUAS, SUAS, or the 20 other redundant terms.

      Yes.

      >So size isn’t even a differentiator anymore.
      It never was.

A drone is any unit that's controlled remotely. So yeah basically. An RC car is technically a drone, in the broadest sense.

Drones are going to destroy regular offensives hard. But then everybody will go underground because that is the only viable option for the infantry, so they won't change much in the long run.

    as opposed to what?
drones arent a new thing theyve been in military use for half a century and before that there were preprogrammed recon drones
