How good are slugs as a shtf stockpile? I live next to a plant that sell them at 70cpr in boxes of 5.

It’ll kill durr, men and car engine blocks if you hit em right. It’s heavier than most common rifle choices for SHTF but it’s perfectly adequate for self defense and hunting.

this, they'll kill anything with legs in north america

They're OK. They kill most things but their effective range is short. The ammo is also heavy and bulky which means its very inefficient in terms of space and weight. Also, .70 cpr isn't exactly cheap.

AR gays expect to dump 3 full magazines before they get their first hit

        >zoomer morons are gonna empty their AR the first chance they get
        >but they won't do the same with their Maverick88

It was with you for the first part but I'm not sure sure about the second.

        >556 range 200-300 yd easy with a sub 20in semiautomatic 30rnder with low recoil, mildly AP
        >12ga slug 150yd range tops with a excellent 18in or decent 24in heavy recoil 8shot semiautomatic, no AP

        Yeah sure noguns.

I think it's funny when AR gays play their hands too quickly
          >you NEED 30 rounds or youre dead in da streets
          >you NEED a rifle good to 300 yards or youre dead in da streets
          >you NEED AP or youre dead in da streets
meanwhile in reality the most demanding justified shooting in recent memory was kyle rittenhouse firing 8 rounds at sub 10 yards to kill 2 people and fend off 20+

AR gays will whine and cry.
anyways, I think that a 12 gauge is a pretty good shtf option just bc it has so much damn utility. not only is it one of the most common rounds it also has a factory load for just about anything and its one of the easiest rounds to reload with minimal equipment.

rittenhouse kind of makes the case for a carbine over a shotgun. It'd be much more difficult to do what he did with a longer pump action shotgun than a semi auto carbine.
Granted, it's certainly an outlier case, but it's a good example of the easier use of carbines as opposed to shotguns.

Essential when those immigrants as flowing towards your lines in human wave formation. It's all about the demoralizing factor of pickle ball sized holes thru a dude you could force them to break rank.
Also where do you live ? I need slugos that cheap

Winchester shotshells are the lowest quality of the 'good enough' ammo and go on sale all the time. My local farm supply store had boxes of 5 for 3.79 recently

alternatively, you can cut shells and make a poor man's slug
they work better than you'd expect

If they hit any sort of dense hard object, all of that shot will ricochet right back at you. I'll never frick with those again. Just my safety PSA.

Why on earth would you shoot one at a dense hard object? morons playing around with steel targets?

Missed a target and hit a tree stump. Yes it was operator induced, but no other round would have ricocheted like that. Just something to seriously consider if you're going to use cut shells.

Oh jesus christ, pretty much what happened to me but an air rifle and a steel BB. Hit a fallen log intentionally and it shot back right at my hand. It has to be steel.

The other day when I was shooting my Remington 870 I had a pellet of #7 birdshot come back and bounce off my forehead just above my left eye because the ground is frozen and there is no snow covering it, and this was at a range of 30 feet. Only one pellet made it back but still.

          Good thing I wear glasses.

Not sure how they're even retaining enough energy to ricochet back at you unless you're shooting shit from a few feet away. You're ideally supposed to use birdshot shells as they're cheaper and have a shot cup, unlike buck.

          Anonymous

Well for starters this actually happened to me so I'm not speaking theoretically, and it was low-brass birdshot. It ricochets. I can't completely explain how it happens, but I can point out a few things. First is that the shot cup and wad can and does separate, it's supposed to by design. The remaining shot is inside the front of the shell in flight, but when it impacts a hard target, the forces of physics act on each pellet and the plastic shell independently. The plastic shell will flatten and deform, but many of the pellets in the back will bounce off of each other and ricochet. I don't know if high-number birdshot would have enough energy after ricocheting to penetrate a human body significantly, but I still don't want to frick with it.

You shot steel shot filled shells as a cut shell instead of lead shot filled shells, didn't you, moron?
        t. learned how fricking insanely steel ricochets when much younger shooting a 10 pump bb gun

funfact; the shell is wider than the barrel, this causes increased pressures.

True. Yet another thing that cannot be used in damascus steel barrels.

keep an eye for TAKNO brand, they are made in Ukraine, some of the best slugs ive used. highly accurate, i was hitting steel targets at 100y all day

Slugs are fine, but your best value is bulk buying 100 round cases of number 6 birdshot and then using parafin wax to convert them into wax slugs as needed. You get the best price and widest array of functionality that way.

But since you seem to have a special price arrangement for your boxes of slugs, carry on.

slugs are probably the best shotgun ammo to have for SHTF. Buckshot effectiveness goes down dramatically as the pattern spreads out at distance, but slugs will still absolutely frick shit up as ranges buckshot is effective.

can you shoot wax slugs out of a pump or semi?

        Anonymous

Pump yes, semi idk. The wax will leave residue so the gun will have to be cleaned eventually, but wax slugs were one of the go to poaching rounds during the great depression due to how cheaply they could be made and how they absolutely rekt anything they hit.
