Even in Bongland, most crimes like this are nig-on-nog violence. You can absolutely guarantee that there'll be some unfair or cowardly element involved in most of them.
I'd bet that the vast majority of the time, the killer will either:
1. Act nice, wait until the victim has his guard down, then suddenly start stabbing him over and over again (works best if you have a group of friends with you and your victim isn't even looking at you).
2. Beat up the victim with his friends and then stab him while he's on the ground or being restrained.
Most of the time it's people already in a fight pulling knives and stabbing while grappling or fighting, don't get into conflict, learnt to stay alert and learn to flee and you won't die.
There are also situations where people get stabbed because they did something shit, and they get one pulled. Usually from people they know. This you're going to die from no matter what because they will get you when you're vulnerable.
Last style is the mass murderer and those you can really defend yourself against with awareness and being a more difficult target.
