How do I use self-levelling compound?
I screwed up the first batch and am now stuck with a mound in the middle of the room. I'm pretty sure the mistake was pouring out the compound in batches instead of at once because I didn't have a large enough bucket. Are you supposed to cover the whole floor for it to level properly?
What should I do now, how do I fix this?
First go back to redit.
Second try to use Google.
>now stuck with a mound in the middle of the room
How? It's fricking leveling compound. It finds level
the self in self leveling means you, an amateur, is supposed to level
you screwed up
Should've leveled yourself
Before you wrecked yourself
Your room isn't level OP, you fricked up
maybe you mixed it too thick?
if it's mixed correctly it's not very viscous and will find its own level if you let it sit. all you have to do is maybe push it around a little bit
this. OP didn't mix it enough.
>if it's mixed correctly it's not very viscous and will find its own level if you let it sit
Theoretically yes but in practice no because it starts drying pretty quickly, and if you're not super quick in getting the whole room filled then one side will be cured before the other side and it won't be perfectly level.
I've done it a few times and it's fine for really small rooms where you can get it all poured quickly but for anything bigger than like a 150 sq ft room it's very hard to get it right. Better off just screeding, it's hard work but at least you can take your time and make sure it's perfect
Yes, I had no idea how fast it cures and there was no way I was keeping up with a 5 gallon bucket.
So what do you reckon, should I just get a bigger bucket and pour another layer which will actually cover the whole floor this time? The room's really small, only about 40 sq ft.
I think you're generally meant to put a curing moroning agent in with it, I might be remembering wrong but I think that's what I did with a mate, we had no idea what we were doing and it went fine with a 4x5m room.
You have to level it after you apply it. It stays flat once you set it level.
It's called self leveling not auto leveling JFC
