How do I get my girlfriend to enjoy being outdoors?

How do I get my girlfriend to enjoy being outdoors?

She's had next to no experience of being outside of a city before we met, and while she's been a real trooper about it and adamant about not saying that she doesn't like something before she's tried it, it's very obvious that she just flat-out doesn't like it. I keep telling her that I don't want to force her if she hates being outside, but she keeps insisting that there has to be SOMETHING outdoors that she can tolerate so that we can do things together.

We went ice fishing last week. She's not a complainer, but the whole time there she sat quietly looking like a wet dog (exhibit A), just utterly miserable, patiently waiting until we're done. Every time we're doing something outdoors, she always looks like she's in pain, and is just quietly waiting for it to be over.

How do I get her to like being outdoors? I want to take her camping one day and she insists she can't tell that she won't like it before she's tried it, and I don't want to spend three days in an otherwisely nice campsite watching her quietly have the three worst days of her entire life.

How do I get her to enjoy it more?

    >ice fishing

Hahahaha. You're going to burn her out doing winter PrepHole shit, and then when middle-spring arrives she'll be unwilling to get naked in the leaves. Why would you take a woman ice fishing??

I don't know where you're from but around here it's a family activity. My mom was also there, fishing.

Just wait until it's warm and bright again. Take her for a nice slow 6 mile walk into the woods, set up a sent and put down a pretty blanket, have a picnic. Pull out a scented candle and a bottle of wine that she didn't know you packed. That's the type of shit women enjoy

OP will ignore this advice to instead babble on about his imaginary gf. Crazy

Probably 90% of women born in western countries raised on Disney movies and have crafted their entire personality as princesses to avoid all struggle, hardship, strife.
Sadly there's nothing you can do against ≥15 years of exposure to modern media. Sorry anon.

Nah she's the opposite of a princess type. She's actually in therapy about being used to being treated like shit. You ever met a girl who'll be surprised about how nice you are when you're literally just doing the bare fricking minimum?

She's the type that has funny childhood stories of fricking horrifying levels of child neglect. Half the people who have been in her life should be in prison.

It literally never occurred to her that it was actually kind of fricked up of her father to leave his 11-year-old daughter alone at the house with a crackhead he barely knew, even if nothing happened.

Sounds like she has the tism too.

          Yeah probably.

It's not her fault that this stuff happened to her, and I feel bad for her, but are you sure you want to date someone like this? If it ends up being serious this will be the person who is alone with your kids all day, she might do something moronic

Try Geocaching in semi rural areas and move onto more interesting ones that are on mountains etc. Or try actual comfortable camping, two nights not two weeks. Slow exposure. If she enjoys reading why not bring books or even puzzles etc camping to show her that being PrepHole can enhance other hobbies too?

Interesting take but generally the people I know who had abusive upbringings turned into fantastic parents because they knew how cruel people can be and don't want to be like that.

Why don't you ask her what aspects of it were uncomfortable or boring. Maybe she was cold and needs better gear, or maybe she was watching everyone else instead of being allowed to try doing it and was bored

I have to pry it out of her every time - she got the "never complain about anything ever" beat into her pretty damn hard - and apparently she doesn't like thick, bulky clothes or fabrics that make sound when you move.

There's just really no proper outdoor clothes that aren't like that.

yea i would not recommend ice fishing as an entry out activity lmao isnt that the joke about why guys go ice fishing to escape their women, because their wives, while born and bred in those areas, will never go

start something more like at a nice developed campground at the nicest time of the year, thats near both easy hiking and cute small towns to walk through and such

We've already done that. We've been together for five years. In the summer she hates bugs and sunscreen, and once it's too cold for bugs, it's too cold for her.

It's not her fault that this stuff happened to her, and I feel bad for her, but are you sure you want to date someone like this? If it ends up being serious this will be the person who is alone with your kids all day, she might do something moronic

She's infertile and I don't want kids. She's on the pill just in case, because if a miracle happened, we're aborting it.

We have been geocaching in the city. She doesn't like being outside when it's cold out, hot out, rainy, sunny, or windy. She just doesn't like it when there's weather, apparently.

You seem deeply unhappy, is that inaccurate?

Nobody lives their entire lives in a constant state of euphoria. You can't expect to be happy all the time.

That is dodging the question pretty thoroughly. I think what you said is common sense.

            >my girlfriend hates the thing
            >how do I force her to like it
You don't. You accept that you have a partner who does not enjoy the things you do, or you find a different partner.

Sounds like this is the only option OP. She isn't outdoorsy and you've tried many avenues to no avail, let her do her thing while you do yours or leave her for a chance at something that isn't necessarily going to be better.

How is it dodging the question? If you ask me whether the sky is blue, then "isn't it always?" isn't dodging the question. Human beings are inherently unhappy and I am a human being.

Ice fishing has got to be the single most boring activity invented by man. It combines all the boredom of regular fishing with being cold.

Kick her to the curb. She will never like it and as soon as she babies up she's not going to let you do it anymore either.

    She isn't a keeper anon.
