      Leave your room

      Wash your penis

      All correct.

There’s literally nothing stopping OP. The first step isn’t asking if it’s possible, so he hasn’t even started.

to someone who could be considered outdoorsey?

I want to change but I'm scared of the fact that it might just not be for me

      first walk around the block
      then walk around 4 blocks
      >not giving a shit about people looking at you walking is key
do this every few days for a month
then drive to the closest trail and do a 4 mile loop or do 2 miles in and two miles back.

The more you walk, the more your body will crave walking.

Just find some nice easy short walks in your locale. Get a few of those under your belt to build up your confidence.
Being outside is for everyone. You aren't evolved to sit inside in a chair indoors all day. It's damaging your mind and your body. Going into nature is healing. It's what your brain evolved for.

This, start small and track your walks to see how far your comfortable limit is. Build it up and start carrying heavier loads. Eventually if you can carry 15kg 10 miles in 8 hours or so, that's good enough for some decent trips. Learning to camp etc. is another kettle of fish and you'll need to just learn by reading/youtube and trial and error.

these folks get it--walk first, camp later.

This. It's obvious OP has no real interest in being an outdoorsman, he only wants appear as one for vain reason. He's too scared and lacking in autonomy to go out on his own unless he's guided, as if he thinks real life is supposed to be a linear video game you can't lose in. He doesn't want to dedicate himself to something that requires investment, so he wants to wear it as a fancy dress instead.
All he had to do if he was interested, and what any normal person would do, would be find something, fishing or hiking or whatever, and go out and do it.

Literally. $50 investment and he could go start fishing in an hour. Watch some YouTube learn his basic knots, boom he has an outdoor hobby.

I can respect the desire but just as you said I think he’s a bit misguided in what he actually wants and just wants to appear as some badass outdoor chad. I know people like this and they’re all pathetic.
        >at small get together with friends
        >talking to Air Force friend about stuff like me considering navy, lifting, hiking, fishing etc
        >this absolute weak pussy in this group (not anyones friend, tags along and tolerated out of pitty), cuts us off to loudly tell no one in particular about how badass he is with some obviously made up story about his mother sending him to juvenile delinquent camp and how he had to camp out solo in the Everglades and hunt for food and start fires and shit
        >dude never goes outside, watches anime all day, is nearly translucent white despite being of middle eastern descent (israelite)
        >FF couple years go on small vacation with some of these friends, the larping homosexual tags along (made the costs cheaper for us)
        >insists that we have to jump on any bear we see and we have to fight the bears
        >go hiking
        >bitches and moans the entire way
        >yells the entire time ensuring any wildlife is scared off
        >complains about the cold demands I give him my only jacket while he’s layered up in three shirts, a hoodie and a puff jacket, threw a fit when I said no (30° F nothing crazy cold but wasn’t giving my only jacket away)
        >continually yells about fighting bears (dude was 5’2” 150lbs fat) and other nonsense that you’d expect someone who’s never left a city to say
        >liters
        >complains about us not stopping to rest every 20 minutes
        >leave him behind, hike another 30 minutes ahead and then wait for him, doesn’t show up I have to go back for him, sitting on the floor asks if we’re done yet
I wish more people were into outdoors shit but it’s a simple fact some people aren’t meant for it.

It doesn't take long to condition someone who has been completely sedetary for years for hking and such. Maybe six months, and in two years you can hike 40k for several days comfortably.

Step 2: fill water bottle and bring with you

    Step 4: walk it
    Repeat and start inviting friends.
Eventually you'll find people who are doing even more outdoorsy stuff that you can join and learn. Literally none of this is difficult. You just do it.

I went from drunk neet to being on the Appalachian trail having never hiked before and finished the Georgia section. Get some basic gear and go hike up a mountain and camp for the night

  16. 6 months ago

Here is some real advice anon:
The best way is to find someone else who hikes/camps and ask to go with them. They will have the gear and know-how. Then you can build up your confidence to doing it on your own. If you are in college (or younger) there will probably be an outdoors club. If you are not in a college, then maybe there is an outdoors store near you that hosts trips. Or at least helps PrepHole types connect. Or you can volunteer at a local conservation organization to meet others.
If you don't know anyone then you're just gonna have to go. Start with small trails near you. Then go to some campgrounds that have ammenities like a store and bathrooms. Then build up to going innawoods with nothing but a backpack. There's millions of resources and youtube videos online about how to do anything specific you want to do, like maybe build a campfire. But the most important part is to know when it's time to stop watching videos and just go.

Step 2 go hiking as much as you can

Everything else will follow. Hike a lot and you’ll slowly pick up on gear you need and your endurance level will increase and you’ll be more confident. Just don’t stay in your room posting here. Fukin do it pussy, don’t just talk about doing it

look up some trails near you and walk on them. it's what I'm doing. it's not exactly hiking but good enough for some escapism. plenty of trees and lakes around here. also want to buy a mountain bike so I can ride it on some trails.
eventually I'd like to do some actual hiking and camping.

    >who could be considered
found your first issue in this phrase. you want to wear a Patagonia shell and drink out of a nalgene in front of women, and want to know what the bare minimum effort is to not be called a fraud. The good news is there isn't one, you can just do that if you want

    First, just try going out.
Find somewhere nice that's close enough that it doesn't become a chore getting there.
Just walk into the wild, and enjoy the sights and sounds, if you don't like it, just go back to edging to titty streamers on twitch.

  24. 6 months ago

just start finding places to go hike and such. eventually you can upgrade to camping, then to fishing or hunting etc.

If you need something to make it more engaging, or to give you an objective, then layer in some sort of passive activity, like foraging or bird watching. Or an active activity, like bushcrafting.

I have a hunch that modern tech has ruined me.

I do it to get away from modern tech, mostly. Being out in the woods listening to the wind in the trees or rain on a tarp is theraputic for me. It's also nice to escape constant politics, since rocks and birds don't give a frick who anyone is voting for.

take a month and walk the Camino de Santiago francés. Great excuse to buy a few basics, it's easy, cheap, and you'll meet a few randos. After a month outside you'll know if you are into it or if you are truly one and done.
