How bad is the 357s recoil?

I took my sister shooting this past weekend. She weights like 110 libs. We usually shoot 38 spl. This time I rented a Taurus 605 and loaded it with Underwood 158 grain JHPs. She fired two cylinders fine. I asked her: "Recoils a lot more don´t it?"

She replied: "Not really."

    I dont believe your larp.

I don't buy it. The difference between .38's and magnums is obvious, especially in a snubnose.

      >I don't buy
I do. dunno what op usually shoots but I'm betting is a lot lighter than the Taurus, which is a pig. .38 in a light gun vs .357 in a boat anchor could be closer than not.
second, .357 is not that bad in objective terms, it's basically spicy 9mm for most loads. I'm a grown man and I don't even factor recoil into my shooting until I'm shooting .45 or .457 on up
Does it exist? yes. do i give more of a shit about .357 vs .38 recoil? no.
.38, .380. 9mm are ALL grandma rounds, everybody can shoot them and complaining about recoil means you don't like the gun or you have undiagnosed bone cancer.
.357 goes boom, but nowhere near enough to call it a problem. So she said, when asked, recoils a lot more, "not really" cuz it doesn't
tl:dr you're gays and OPs imaginary sister is a boss

I've mixed .38 and 357 in the same gun on the range to try and tell the difference.
        None felt.
But as you said, the gun was a boat anchor.

While underwood likes to post ridiculous velocities on their boxes, most of the time when independent people cronk their ammo it's way under advertised, and closer to normal loads.

depends on the time frame this is plausible if they last time she shoot 38 was months ago and shes comfortable enough with shooting. then handed the gun loaded with 357 later. she doesnt remember what 38 felt like. she pulled the trigger gun went bang everything was normal.
if this was on the same day its bullshit.

She goes shooting about twice a year. But she has been shooting since she was 15

OP here. Don´t get me wrong magbros, I definitely can feel the difference between 38s and 357. I don´t even like shooting 357s that much.

But is it so devastating out of a snub nose? Me thinks no

It isnt "so devastating out of a snub nose" but it has even more recoil and blast than out of a full size despite the lesser projectile velocity. Youd know this if you actually shot guns.

        >it has even more recoil and blast than out of a full size

But the 357 out of a full size revolver recoils very little. What do you mean?

357 in a full size is a pussycat. OP is talking about snubbies

Shooting them out of a j-frame will give you pretty bad palm slap and will likely cause some bleeding somewhere on your hand

Skinnygay here. All I know is
    >.357 from a Security Six
    super fun
    >.44 from an even heavier gun
    unpleasant, would not recommend

      This is all so true.
.357 mag can be shot for a while and you'll wear your wallet out way before your wrist.
It's super powerful, super easy, and super fun.
      >tfw there was no reason to ever develop another handgun round after tree fiver seven mag num.

The .357 is a superb cartridge, especially if you look at the long heavy bullets. Those begin to border on rifle territory in terms of SD.

What were you shooting the .44 out of? I have a Super Blackhawk and can shoot that thing all day without too much discomfort.

357 is the breakpoint round where people who can't into recoil control say it recoils a lot and grip strength chads shoot it all day.
It's been long said .44 is the heaviest recoiling pistol round an average shooter can deal with reliably. Which has double the felt recoil.

This or she's really good at managing recoil, either way the recoil is very noticeable.
Don't get me wrong I have a Taurus 605 too and it's a helluva fun to shoot but not for everyone.

I'm not some sort of tough hard dude. I've shot tons of 357s. Anybody with good instruction can shoot it on nearly any platform, one round at a time. The catch is fast follow up shots, which is the technique bar. 357 kicks so fast there isn't anything you can do but hold it and if it hurts the round is already long gone
