Worse than having no gun at all. The frick, bro. As long as it's not kicking up obscene amounts of dirt when prone, it'll work.

They're not BAD, but there are certainly better options.
for SHTF specifically: suppressor > flash hider > hybrid > comp > open barrel

Since you'll want to be conserving ammo, you probaby wont be firing rapidly enough for you to ever need a comp.

Does muzzle flash matter that much? Compared to say, a 3 prong SF or an A2?

        >Does muzzle flash matter that much?
        Yes.

          why

            Anonymous

Other than sound, it is the primary way of identifying not-quite visible enemies. Spot the muzzle flash, spot the shooter.

It reveal where you are when you fire moron what the frick are you doing behind your screen

Unless you have thermals, there's no way to easily locate a shooter past 300m unless you see the muzzle flash or the dust their shots kick up. Suppressors hide that, as well as the muzzle report, which in turn denies easy echolocation of the shooter.

Well do you think my comp mod 1 could be spotted easily?

Suppressor is king and nothing else is relevant.

If you don’t have a suppressor when SHTF you are completing and totally fricked. You might as well take your unsuppressed gun and have a nice day in the head

    Piggybacking off of this thread

Why the frick is strike industries compensator better than military issued ones?

      Anonymous

      it isn't, it's all marketing
Strike Industries makes a handful of good products and everything else is absolutely form over function
the YHM FHs are legitimately better than the A2 bird, but it's a relatively newer design that's longer and heavier than the a2 so of course it will work better

I brought the two muzzle breaks to the range and tried one right after the other on the same gun, and there was a pretty noticable difference

If you think the size of the holes on the end of your gun will effect your survivability in "SHTF," you won't have to worry about surviving it anyway

no im solid on everything else i have 100% fitness, food, firearms, gear, safety, land, support from friends and family, complete unshaken heroic resolve, and herculean charisma and personality cult to sway everyone around me, but im worried about a couple holes at the end of my 1 rifle getting a piece of dust

SUBTHREAD: how do i manufacture a flash hider that sounds like a train whistle

first step is to develop a very slow bullet.

piggybacking on this, I want a muzzle device that makes the gun significantly louder and is extremely annoying to nearby people so I can clear out public ranges faster without spending money on .308 and a PTR51

      Anonymous

Does bird cage even make that big of a difference that it's worth less recoil mitigation

        Anonymous

it's fine but you can get a modern fh with comparable dimensions that almost entirely eliminates muzzle flash for about 20 bucks. A2s are fine but mostly touted by contrarians who want to think they're utilitarian

        Anonymous

Birdcage doesn't reduce recoil, it moderately reduce muzzle climb. But it worth mentioning birdcage reduces flash comparing to naked barrel by 10000 times (no that is not a typo).

PSA: KAC makes a rip-off/clone of the YHM phantom, literally one of the top three muzzle devices for eliminating flash, including [all suppressors] in one of those three slots

smith vortex is the best flashhider that isn't a suppressor.

Great option for morons who want to spend 65-90 on a non-mount FH, sure.

          Anonymous

it's still the best flash hider that isn't a suppressor. if you need a suppressor mount then buy whatever one that works for your can. not sure why you're even responding. they aren't "non-mount" anyways and most of them are $40.

A very real scenario in SHTF is you might be shooting out a window or peephole from inside a house or building. There will likely be others inside with you. Do you really want any type of compensation in that situation? Even with ear pro, that would be extremely fricked.

Comps, brakes and hybrid comps/brakes were designed for competition shooters. That's it.

Unironically there are 3 devices worth putting on combat rifle:
    A2 Birdcage as default device
AFAB/EFAB brakes (as your hybrid device)
3 prong flash hiders for use with night vision
Everything else is inferior to mentioned devices in their respective categories

(Also suppressors, but they are in their own NFA category)
