Go easy, a lot of their problems are a combination of Turkey, Gypsies causing problems in other countries using Romanian papers, post Soviet occupation, and that they don't have too much in the way of resources to capitalize on effectively. They're kind of like a Slavic Italy without the well-known food, but there's some good people out there. If you ever go, I recommend seeing the Cărturești Carusel bookstore as seen in pic.

Orthodox Christianity has nothing to do with it. Greeks, Ethiopians, Coptic Egyptians and Georgians are orthodox Christians too. That doesn't make them Slavic. Slovaks, Poles and Croats are Catholic. Czechs were traditionally (mostly) Protestants. Bosnians are Muslim.
