No one actually does this, right? First of all, temps are too mild most of the time to even need a major heat source. These little stoves can’t burn for long so you can’t keep a warm tent over night while asleep. The weight and hassle seems like a terrible value. This is just an entertainment genre isn’t it? You can watch YouTube creators setting up hot tents (which they certainly don’t actually sleep in), chopping wood, making a chimney smoke, making gourmet dishes, etc, and live that fantasy virtually.
Halfway decent bait, so I'll recognize half of your digits.
I do I love in MT and love winter camping, and it is max cozy when done right. Weight is not an issue when you have a sled to pull all your shit, and you don't need it to burn all night if you just prepare beforehand. I boil water and use a bladder bag to keep me warm in my sleeping bag. It can't burn all night and sometimes i do have to get up and make a fire but all in all I love hot tent camping. You just need to not be moronic and it works out great overall.
>bladder bag
Don't you worry a bit about them leaking?
Not that guy, I treat my gear like an unwanted child, this has held up a couple years
The consequences of failure are extreme though.
not like i also has two water bottles...
I think he means suddenly having you, your clothes, your bedding, and tent soaked in the middle of the wilderness at night. Not running out of water, anon.
There is always a possibility for leaking but there are simple things you can do to add protection like a gallon Ziplock bag. But I misspoke when I said bladder bag pic rel is what I use and idk what else to call it. Works great and is meant to hold hot water.
I guess maybe if you wrap it in a towel even if it becomes brittle and cracks you probably won't get too wet.
hot water bottle. they are fricking amazing have 2 rn
Ending every sentence in a question?
Yes I pack a stone in autumn and winter
Yes and it’s fun on a bun!
I routinely go with friends and it’s a great way to spend time. It can be a little constricting but there’s nothing more fun than brewing a pot of hot coffee and drinking it with the boys.
Can be a little awkward though when you’re super cramped up, but I got an 8 person hot tent (pictured) and we found sleeping with 4 +their gear is the upper limit.
If it’s the misses and I, we bring our chairs in and a little foldable table and it’s almost like an apartment. b***h to set up though/carry so I really only use it for hikes less than a mile haven’t tested it in heavy snow, but I imagine the 10+ pound tent 15 pound stove would be easy to drag with a sled.
That looks like it would handle one adult male somewhat comfortably. Normally you can brew coffee on a jet stove or some sort of propane burner which doesn’t require 30 lbs of stuff and wood processing and which also boils much faster because wood stoves can’t generate as much heat.
Yeah jetboils work great and I do have one for regular backpacking, but I do enjoy taking the hot tent when it’s me and the boys and we’re not traveling far.
The picture dosnt do a good job showing size. Here’s the deminsions sheet from pomoly. It can easily sleep 4 if you don’t mind getting snug. 2-3 is ideal though if you don’t put in the inner tents.
Looks cozy anon
>too mild most of the time
Someone's never camped mid october to april
Yeah too heavy for me but I hope to do fly ins one day when my old man is too old to walk to badass places anymore so I'll probably get to use one then.
Really it depends how many people are going. A party of 2, even if 1 is a woman, can obviously carry a significant amount more stuff by virtue of sharing the use of it (the tent/cooking stuff/power banks etc.). If there's 3 people in 1 tent then a camping stove can easily be carried by one of them. When that is considered, the pros of having a tent warmer like that around can outweigh the cons.
Another thing. A buddy heater or similar would be more effective and lighter. YouTubers can’t sell an illusion of a crackling campfire with those though.
Yeah, nothing like sitting around the buddy heater with your bros and enjoying the sounds of gas heat
will those things burn down ur tent? I use one for my shed in winter and i feel its unsafe for a tent made out of flammable sythetics
back in '13 a guy two tents away from me died in the night because of one of those fricking gas heaters
although we don't know if it was a gas cylinder leak or carbon monoxide
either way, would not recommend
RIP Ken.
I haul my hot tent up for miles because it's rustic, comfortable, and fun.
My God how tall is that stove pipe, it literally goes out of the frame of the picture lol
Also, is that a Seek Outside Cimarron
Luxe Minipeak XL.
Very comfy picture.
I need to get a hot tent at some point, but shit's expensive.
>No one actually does this, right?
Yes, people do.
> First of all, temps are too mild most of the time to even need a major heat source.
Move out of Florida and you'll find out.
>The weight and hassle seems like a terrible value
If you are doing an expedition - as in A to B or a loop, then no they are terrible value. If you are just hauling your gear to a base camp close to the road and doing day trips out from there, then they are great value.
>if you're a b***h you'll think they're a terrible value
