Nope. Don't know why it would be, if the Russian Orthodox church was the carrier of Old church Slavonic, which was made on the basis of proto-Slavic.
Old-Church Slavonic was only spoken by Russian clergy. Regular peasants (majority of the population) still spoke old Slavonic, which evolved over time in different ways between Slavic tribes. Russian language is the only one from the Slavic group to have finno-ugric and mongol influences, which can be explained geographically of course. Still, it is well regarded to be the most removed from its old Slavonic roots among all other Slavic languages.
