Has anyone got experience setting up a LLC that way if you get into trouble only the business gets into trouble at not you?

You'd be better off asking PrepHole but sure you can have a home business. An online presence would help you better than a sign or Craigslist ad.
Setting up an LLC alleviates you from financial liability but not criminal. It also can help with taxes if you become a partnership.
