    where did Russian jamming go?

      Anonymous

Broad-spectrum jamming powerful enough to disrupt GPS is a very bad idea even if your enemy lacks anti-radiation missiles, so they probably gave up on it.

Back in 2022, a framework agreement was signed on the acquisition of 288 South Korean K239 Chunmoo launchers. 218 of these, along with several thousand rocket artillery rounds, are covered by the first performance contract, assuming that deliveries would happen in 2027, with a value of USD 3.55 bn. Recently Poland also received approval for delivery of 486 HIMARS launchers, and almost 10 thousand rockets. Both Chunmoo, and the second lot of HIMARS, would be integrated on the Polish Jelcz trucks, and within the Topaz fire control system.

              >Whoah.... this is worthless!
Russia specifically pursues a doctrine of 'make the border regions so shitty nobody wants to take it from us and makes the people there move to the nicer country on the other side'. Then when the 'other side' has a large population of Russians, you say that the Russians are being persecuted (whether they are or are not is irrelevant - especially when you can fund the persecution or commit yourself) and then you say you're sending the mighty bear to protect her children and ta-da, you now have a free and liberated from the evil Russophobes unrecognised state and then you just let time go by or just flat out declare it Russian.

Had the Ukraine adventure worked out, Georgia would have been taken next followed by agitation in Armenia (they're not truly with CSTO!) and Kazakhstan (those are clearly Russian clay) and they'd play the same DPR/LPR card in case China decides they want to be billy big bollocks.

There's a big difference between initial shock force of missiles and attritional.
Having more systems means you don't have to wait for them to get into position, and in the short term can effectively use all your stocks and decimate your attacking enemies first blow in one fell swoop.
So while Ukriane would not benefit from many more, and it could theoretically have an advantage of it had more for short term expenditure, it's not a huge deal if you only need 4 to suppress local artillery.

They have 20 HIMARS and around 15 M270 (like HIMARS but fatter, slower and double the payload). The main limiting factor is probably GMLRS supply, hopefully GLSDB can help alleviate that.

Because the USA only has a few and does not want to dip into those stocks to provide more. Which they said they would. So they're being built now and will be done between 2025-2026. The hope is, however, the war will be over by then and the new vehicles will be used to make up the (being rebuilt) Ukrainian military.

At the moment the issue is missiles. Same reason why USA hasn't sent 500 Bradley's and 300 Abrams even though they could. There isn't enough resources, crews and systems in place to support such a force. Therefore everything is kept purely at a level Ukraine can handle. Imagine giving some 17th century Indonesian island tribe a load of tanks. Great you can teach them how to use them and maybe even repair them, but it is utterly useless if you don't have the shit you need to repair them and resupply them. Same with Ukraine. No point giving them more than they can reasonably handle.

The hope is, however, is losses will be replaced. I just hope this time they are quick and timely and a production/queue system is set up where there are X crews training on Y systems ready to replace/rotate existing units. But we have no info yet.

Each HIMARS has so many kills they have probably run out of space to paint new kill icons.

There's a frickton more HIMARS than 18 in Ukraine. Last Summer going into the Fall there were a minimum of 60 shipped directly from the U.S., plus more from other Euro countries. OpSec clamped down on firm numbers, but by October or November 2022, the total number of HIMARS platforms almost certainly exceeded 100. The bottleneck has been ammo, but it's much less of a bottleneck today than it was six months ago.

        Anonymous

        Any sources on those numbers?

          Anonymous

Yeah, paying attention during the last 16 months. The U.S. sent several batches of HIMARS, which have been delivered. The first was 12, then there was a batch of 24, then there were a couple more batches, including from EU countries, becuase they were so effective. Then the specific numbers stopped being specified. This shit was being announced every few weeks all last year. There were only about a hundred or two hundred threads on /k/ discussing it to death. So sorry you missed them. I participated in threads six months ago where the minimum estimate was between 60 and 80 based just upon what the U.S. had officially announced.

Then, about the time of the New Years Eve vatnik cookoff, other distractions pushed HIMARS out of discussion because they were being used so often nobody could track or care about them anymore. Now they're a hot item again because they are wrecking everything vatnik in the counteroffensive region, and there is a huge stockpile of ammo for them now. Ukraine is floating in HIMARS systems, and very nearly none of them have been taken out. I think I've only seen two that were verified & confirmed as killed.

Oryx has listed 38 HIMARS donated from the U.S. and a further 23 M270s from UK, Germany, Italy, and France. If you assume a battery equals 6 missile pods (equal 6 HIMARS or 3 M270s) thats about 15 batteries or 5 worth battalions.

My recollection is they’ve used something like 9k rounds so far. Not sure what that equates to in kills, but conservatively what do we think, at least 50% are successful? Probably much higher.

          Anonymous

I haven't seen or heard of a HIMARS strike missing. I don't doubt that they do miss, occasionally, but it's rare and not by much. I'd call a "conservative" hit rate at about 80%, and wouldn't be shocked if it was closer to 95%.

          Remember this from last November?

I'd assume they've probably fired them at targets that moved in between the order being given and the missile arriving, plus probably some bad coordinates, jamming, and the occasional malfunction. But in the whole they're probably way better than 50% effective.

Its true that they are very accurate but as your picture shows not all shots are kills

            Anonymous

Iirc 1m CEP, but due to their speed they end up more accurate due to how the measurement works over time, so probably a 3m sensor which due to the ability to take multiple sensor readings over a line becomes more accurate.
Honestly the biggest issues will be map accuracy and errors in location reporting.

Civilian GPS can be accurate down to sub-meter scales. I'm sure the military can do ~10cm level precision or better. It's actually steering/aiming the projectile that accurately that presents the biggest issues.

              >I'm sure the military can do ~10cm level precision or better. It's actually steering/aiming the projectile that accurately that presents the biggest issues.
There's a few other challenges for doing high accuracy at high speed in real time, some of the ultra precise civvie units also require a bit of extra time to narrow down, but military solved all that 20 years ago. As you say the big challenge is implementation. Getting that kind of accuracy over range with a super sonic missile means just plain getting the details of manufacturing correct, everything within the right specs consistently. Like, even if we literally just handed over the plans to Russia, it wouldn't actually help them much because they just can't do it. Like with the SU-57 or whatever else, you can have a super stealth design (it's not, but even pretending it was) but if you then have exposed wood screws and the internal bay doors don't fit together tightly the result is going to be trash at stealth.

Depends. 1 to 2 mm for precision. They work off geo sats, starlink, atomic clocks and normal. They could go lower but it's kind of overboard. (Unofficially) with something going 32000 mph you need that.

              Anonymous

Someone did tests and starlink alone can go down to a few mm of precision

Even though Lucifer is an angel, he wouldn't be recognized as such, just as though a liberal is human, shouldn't be recognized as such, such is how rebellion against god twists the body. That picture shows an angel in its regality and thus cannot be a depiction of Satan.

be fair i think azazel would more accurate.
As he was the leader of the fallen angels who taught being good at war at the price of also teaching consumerism to humans.
            >The Book of Enoch brings Azazel into connection with the Biblical story of the fall of the angels, located on Mount Hermon, a gathering-place of demons of old. Here, Azazel is one of the leaders of the rebellious Watchers in the time preceding the Flood; he taught men the art of warfare, of making swords, knives, shields, and coats of mail, and taught women the art of deception by ornamenting the body, dyeing the hair, and painting the face and the eyebrows

At least ~130 lost and another 50 captured, just for hard confirms IIRC. So expect about a third to half the fleet gone if we're generous.

That plus artillery will always be much harder to visually confirm compared to tanks/IFVs since they're typically in the rear areas behind the frontline. Not every counterbattery strike will be able to get a good BDA and it's entirely possible the Russians recover and move the losses before the frontline moves close enough for yook troops to find them to take pics. Even then they still randomly discover year old VDV shit around the Kyiv area lol. Same goes for the Ukrainian artillery losses, and neither side is going to post pics of their own fricked up equipment and give a free BDA to the other. Of all the visually confirmed vehicle types I think you are definitely safer to assume artillery losses may be much higher then others.

That's still unironically a lot in terms of SPGs, not to mention their 122mm SPGs in the hundreds. And so many towed howitzers not even the most autismo hobbyists or Intel even bothered to count. I really want to see just how much the military budget was spent in the USSR annually on cannons and ammo alone.

Well, they lost 855 pieces of artillery so far and that doesn't include today's tally and only include confirmed pieces, and arty behind the front is harder to confirm than other stuff.

Constabulary wars give moronic ideas about war. Of course some will get smoked and more than if part of US combined arms operation, but those old vehicles were bought long ago to kill Russians and it would be tragic not to use them for that purpose.

The US has so much old armor it makes artificial reefs out of them to boost fish populations. Not quite like Russians using vatniks to fertilize Ukranian farms...
