Hiking boots

I have been trying to find some decent hiking boots, however looking at online recommendations leads me to plastic garbage in neon colors.
I have been thinking of buying these wolverine floorhand work boots because I have good experience using that brand at work, but I am posting to see if you guys have any recommendations for good boots for hiking and deepwoods camping.
Preferably in the $100~$150 range and in leather

I would buy boots that are lightweight, soft cushion insoles for the boots and expensive pairs of socks (they stink a lot less and your leg moves less inside the shoe which is nice)

Any recommendations for nice, lightweight, leather boots for hiking?
These ugly plastic hiking boots are pricing me out quite a bit.

    What's wrong with neon colors?

My clothes are all darker colors, it looks fricking ugly to have neon shit with my carhartts

If you're going PrepHole in Carhartts, it doesn't matter what boots you wear. You're not going to be doing something where it really matters. Also, denim or canvas looks effay when combined with neon colors, you just need to know what colors to pair.

I like to hike deep enough into government forest to legally shoot my AK, stay two nights, and leave
If you homosexuals tell me I need some space age pants and boots for that, PrepHole is dead

Carhartts are objectively overpriced shit on the same level as the gay neon clothes you despise.

Get them half off, its better than most other work pants and they last a while, I got mine 7 years ago for $30 each

Dude, I just told you you DON'T need anything more than what you already have. If you were going mountaineering or thru-hiking or something like that you wouldn't be wearing what you're wearing, so I assumed weekend trips at most. You're not going grocery shopping in a three-piece suit either, right? It's overkill.
Maybe you should try to work on being less of a grumpy butthole.

Holy shit, an apology on PrepHole. It's like seeing pigs fly. No problem, have a nice Christmas.

why do you give a shit what color your shoes are if youre that deep in government forest? whos going to see you? another man? youre worried what another man thinks of your shoes? are you gay?

I don't really like how it looks, its my own recreational activity, I just like it how I like it

Honestly there's plenty of decent choices out there. I've only had experience with a few brands but..

$ Merrel and keen are ok cheapish hiking boots and shoes that offer water proofing.

$$ Hoka and Salomon for athletic hiking shoes and boots (I prefer hoka by a lot) Hokas are sometimes a little narrow but I really like their soles more than any other brand it competes with.

Lowa makes great shit too. Just bought some Innox Pro GTX lows and I'm very happy. Very sturdy ankle support somehow in a low cut sneaker and feels close to a barefoot shoe but with much more stability.

I got some xero shoes recently and I love the winter boot ones, didn't come in half sizes but overall they are nice. I'd try vibroware if u can try em on in person

I'd recommend the Jim Green Ranger I use these for work and hikes they're super light fit like a sneaker and are completely leather only thing I would do would be to swap out the insoles, they have a lot of other options like a red wing style boot and leather work steel toes for less than $200

I got a pair of the 4x4s, tire sole is like drinking the nectar of the gods, took a few weeks to get used to but hard to go back after. Also a good conversation starter, they are comfy enough for hiking and just wearing daily so I've been asked about them while grocery shopping lol

Does anyone wear converse boots? The trek shoes have an extra rubber tread on the bottom
Never owned any converse before so i have zero idea on how they are, but felt okay for the 5 minutes i tried them on.
Will they frick me if i have a wide-ish foot. Extra rubber tread seemed okay too.

Converse er medium narrow foot I would say. Not as in dress shoes narrow, but they are not wide either.
I do not know the trekking version though.
Would definitely not recommend as a trekking shoe as they have no ankle support at all.

I hear palladium are just better built converses, probably a better idea. Haven't tried them myself but I'm considering them.

Nah, wore a couple and they don't even last half a year of regular use on city and concrete. They seem more resistant but the quality of the materials is ass all around. Thee only good thing is that they are pretty comfortable but are built cheap, wouldn't recomend.

For me it's the Wolverine Raiders or Wellingtons, the Wellington is more water resistant but less flexible.

    Salomons or hiking army surplus.

OMG these posters are so moronic shilling you commercial civ boots. Get salomon high tops if you want light comfy modernity they're packed with features like cars and need no maintenance.

If you want dry feet I went to my local army surplus and got a pair of spec ops bundeswehr Meindl's in perfect condition for 50 bucks picrel.

Keep them clean, lard them up every once in a while and polish them with a good polish like bundeswehr floral when they don't shine no more. Get either wool or military acrylic synthetic socks.

I'm having a hard time choosing between Lowa Renegades, Salomon Quest 4d and Lowa Zephyr but I hear bad things about both companies' qc (especially Salomon and the Zephyrs) so I'm also open to other recommendations

I’m on my second pair of Danner Viscous boots. First pair went a little over 9 million of my steps before they broke down. I walk every day, about 50/50 fields/light forest and hard pavement. Both of my feet have schetchy arches. These boots are well made enough that I need no inserts for comfort. I was in Red Wings for work boots for 25 years before I retired. Theses Danners are head and shoulders above any Red Wings I ever owned.

You can get any boot in black.
I've had a good experience with Haix. They're a Bavarian brand who specializes in boots for emergency services and also offer hiking boots.
This one here was around € 130 and comes with a comfy insole, quick-lace system, GoreTex and an intrusion-protected outsole.
If you're European, check them out.

Been thinking about buying some savage island boots, maybe military style. Anyone else have experience with them, are they good for hiking?

Not OP, but I want to start getting into hiking and I figure I'll stick with it if I'm comfortable. For hiking only 5-12 miles a day max, does brand or anything matter? My expectation was just to go to REI or Dicks and get a snug boot and maybe some overpriced socks. If anyone can recommend a good store to actually shop at I'd appreciate it.

      Depends on the terrain.

It's slightly hilly woods but clear trails. Mostly dirt, mulch, or some gravel. I want to get out of the house and see some nature while getting in better shape. I figure some nice boots, and then hiking shoew come spring/summer? All the stuff I see online though isn't leather like I thought it'd be.
