Macs didn't suck 15 years ago. They had upgradable RAM and SSD, a non-shit keyboard, no asinine slimness targets, OSX was a first class citizen, and of course you could install windows or linux on it. They do suck, now.

Don't forget the successive "cauldrons" that would surely result in Ukraine's elite troops being encircled and destroyed, opening the way for a total collapse of the front.

Russia has had its moments : we would be as much idiots as the vatniks to deny that.
They put a nice counter to Ukraine's recent counter-offensive with the mines+artillery+chopers combo, with a coordination we didn't expect from them.
And despite being wasteful, they do manage to gather shells, soldiers, missiles and vehicles to take ground, even if it is slow.

But the overall performance is a disgrace for anybody calling itself a modern army.

There's nothing praiseworthy in maintaining that kind of culture and doctrine. Operations with no strategic military value are a complete waste. Getting hundreds of thousands of your own men killed just so you can celebrate being within visible range of where you were last year is not a good thing.

As much as I like trolling the vatniks over Russia's human losses, that's not how mobilization is supposed to work.

You don't mobilize people from day 1 of the war and keep them forever on the frontline "until the war is over" : that's just asking for diminishing return.

I won't contest that Russia probably lost a good chunk of the poor souls it sent to Ukraine.
But 400K KIA and WIA out of 600K would be akin to gutting the whole army's cadre.
Even if we assume CO and NCO would be few among the losses (and they are usually overly represented, not less), losing 2/3 of your men would mean your army would lose years of institutional experience.

So you didn't paid attention to the 2 yrs of conflict then Mr "concerned poster"...
The bulk of Russian elite troops were wiped i. The early days of the SMO or straight up defected to UA ( who's the Russian legion behind the lines smooooker staff is exactly?) the bulk of the losses are then meat wave conscripts from prisons and gulag oblasts like Siberia but still...

It's pure demographic suicide 450k dead, and probably as much crippled for a 5th of Ukraine and a 30% of gdp constriction while gross export un volume stays the same ( ie get sold at a loss to chink and loos).

This is how you implement the great replacement in puccia, that's all, they can b***h and moan and "oook ook mah nook" but the end goal is exactly the same as importing nigeeneers and goatdoctors to crush the European society into subservient consumerist apes... But instead of using white guilt and woke lobotomy you're doing "everyday Stalinism" mixed with Nixon's Vietnam era drafts.

And the US, by feigning lack of involvement are helping the chinks slow cooking the blyatfrog...

Does it even have to be said that somewhere with a single party state of communist origin has no future? Does that really even have to be said? Simply because the seeds of its own demise are inherent to it. No free press, no actual choice in elections, corruption, falsification of statistics, authoritarian dystopian etc etc. China has no future as it is. You must be referring to some other China that does not exist yet. Neither China or the USA are likely to survive their upcoming war as world powers. That war is certain if the USA continues to discard throw away its allies in Europe and the dollars reserve currency status. China is in economic turmoil and the P-Curve is ripe for a social revolution there. Xis options start to narrow to war as a distraction. Could be India if the sees sense and arms Ukraine and NATO and it and its allies stand firm. Will be the US if it does not.

                >China is in economic turmoil and the P-Curve is ripe for a social revolution there.
                https://www.britannica.com/topic/J-curve-hypothesis

J-curve hypothesis, in sociology and political science, theory that attempts to identify the reasons behind the collective rebellion of individuals who are perceived as victims of injustice. The J-curve hypothesis was introduced in 1962 by American sociologist James C. Davies, who believed that social and political unrest was precipitated by a brief period of sharp decline in economic development after a prolonged period of economic growth and improvement.

China right now is a powder keg. That may not be obvious but it is so. If I have a man with nothing, he will not rebel. If I give a man hop, hope of something better, hope of an end to misery and then I take that hope away? Well. That's when you get the real action. Chinas economy and society right now is a primed bomb waiting to go off. The only glue that can hold that mess together is a violent conflict with India or the USA and direct that rage outward and away from the failed authoritarian state

                >social and political unrest was precipitated by a brief period of sharp decline
He's utterly wrong in this. Social and political unrest is precipitated by a brief period of improvement after a long period of decline. While things are decaying people are too busy trying to stay alive, it's only when things have improved enough that they can look beyond tomorrow that they have the luxury of revolt.

Actually he is not and those theories have evolved since the 1960s. I used to spend a lot of time tying to prevent unnecessary deaths by negotiating terrorists into peaceful processes, I've spoken with violent men from 60+ terrorist groups and I was at the very least trusted by them. I tell you this that principle, that of giving a man with nothing hope and removing it or frustrating is the key to all social unrest and armed insurrection. The expectation of improvement, change, justice, elevation from poverty when it has become a real possibility that can almost be tasted unleashes incredible violence in men.China is a tinder pile right now.

The entire Chinese population including its new middle class came from agrarian tyranny within living memory and pinned their entire personal hopes and savings on a vast collapsing property bubble. Best of luck. Like I say, a man with no hope, he does not rebel but give a man hope and take it away? You will get violence. The only possibility is to direct that outward and I don't suppose the CCP is any less aware of this than I am.

Simple fact is that there's a shitload of people in China today who personally experienced literal decades of things improving continously under CCP leadership. A couple rough years isn't going to make them suddenly turn on the CCP just like that.

It was already far too few troops to realistically succeed back when they started (because they expected like half of Ukraine to side with them and the rest to have 0 morale)
and Russian forces were better equipped and trained back then rather than the mobiks, t-55s and golf buggies now
AND Ukraine was far worse equipped and less experienced back then
AND it's legitimately getting difficult to avoid just conscripting the moscow+st petersburg citizenry due to all the fricking attrition. I'm not delusional enough to think these cities are gonna start a revolution or whatever but it's clearly been a very conscious choice to avoid them so far, clearly Putin doesn't want to do it, but he can't avoid it forever.
an extra 15% meatbags doesn't remotely make up for those issues

15% bigger is still too few troops to succeed. In WW2 they had 34 MILLION men under arms. The hysteria about Russia being even stronger now is one of those things where Russian and HATO propaganda converge because Russia has an interest in not appearing weak while HATO militaries have an interest in using the Russian threat to get more taxcuck bux.

That said Ukraine can't really do shit except slowly cede ground in exchange for casualties. At current attrition rates Russia has ~1.5-2 years of serviceable AFVs left but that's coming in as a trickle as refurb rates have improved but still aren't matching depletion hence the localized shortages on many parts of the front, even though on the whole they have about as many tanks in active service as they did in 2022.

The smart play from the wect is to give Ukraine what it needs to prevent Russian air superiority over Ukraine and shells and let them continue to bleed Russia for another few years. Trying to equip Ukraine for a major offensive at this stage is a pipe dream, the key is to just make sure as many Russians die as possible because every one of them that isn't killed in Ukraine will be one we'll need to kill in Poland or Estonia down the road. The only way to prevent an attack on NATO is to keep Russia engaged in Ukraine.

      Anonymous

Europe already has enough nukes to kill 85%+ pf Russians within 20 minutes of pushing a button, if the US cannot even keep its commitment to support Ukraine in the fight, then what use is their nuclear deterrent anyway? Obviously the weakness in the USA is that teh Russians have subverted a huge percentage of their electorate with campaigns like Qanon and while it seems bizzare that such a great nation could be undone in that way, that's what we are watching, Europe can act alone and is remilitarising at a ferocious pace, the irony being is that will probably mean the complete genocide of all Russian speakers. The final straw for Europe was not even Bucha, horrific as that was it was Russians use of immigration caravans into the EU to destabilize and disrupt democracy and capitalize on it for their quislings. Russia made itself an existential threat to democracy in Europe. Russia will not walk away from this with a frozen conflict, victory, Crimea or normalisation., This escalates now until Russia surrenders or every Russian is dead. It really is that simple and if the US becomes irrelevant and impoverished they should remember to hang their Putin loving quanon quislings and not direct their anger at Europe, which never wanted them to go down the route of failure and betrayal. Its already a complete joke to think that any European nation will help the US against China if they deny support to Ukraine having publicly backed Ukraine in the fight and then stabbed them in the back while the fight was raging. That's the end of the US worldwide right there. NO coming back from that. Just sitting there looking at marjourie taylor greens shit on twitter, the collapse of the dollar and remembering when the US was an actual power in the world with allies .

You greatly overestimate the weight of immigration in how people look at Russia.
Most of us don't care that Russia allowed migrants to transit through its territory : if they hadn't come through there, they would have come through the Balkans, Italy or Turkey.
We are opening up to a net influx of about 6-7 millions migrants every year through legal channels.
        Russia's contribution in this isn't even 1%.

If we go to war with Russia, it will simply be because we aren't sure if Russia will stop at Ukraine and our previous experience with appeasing expansionists is that it doesn't work.

"“There are hundreds and possibly thousands of people close to Finland’s border on the Russian side that could be instrumentalised against Finland,” Rantanen said.

By “instrumentalised”, he was referring to the alleged steering of migrants to the frontier by Moscow to raise pressure on Finland and the wider European Union over their political and military support for Ukraine.

Last month, the Finnish government floated plans for temporary legislation that would allow border authorities to block asylum seekers seeking to enter from Russia."

I personally want to see all Russian embassies in European nations closed and their presence here reduced to one monitored building in Brussels. Its time for that. If Russia wants a war with the EU and UK it can have one. or it can leave Ukraine. If it goes to war with a block ten times wealthier and with three times the population Russia will be erased.

Satan, I know that you don't get out as much as you used too, but since the vast majority of the designers and builders of these missiles are chilling out in your crib, you should know that the longest range cruise missile that the Russians have are around 500-550km and are fired from the ground, meaning they need to transport those launchers to within a few 100km of the country they wish to bomb.

Unfortunately, this means they are very slow, very obvious and very easy for a few F-35's to obliterate a battery or two in short notice.

there's also the rapidly draining wealth fund they're using as a war chest.
ziggers will cope that that's the point and they can just rebuild it, but they forget about the fact that it now also has to pay for the military rebuilding, the rebuilding of oil and gas infrastructure (which might be impossible even with lots of spending, cracking towers is one of those techs with one production pipeline that's completely based in the west) and just making the production of literally everything internal since they can hardly get anything from an outside market anymore.

That is wrong and very obviously so. That is not just un American and profoundly revolting to watch, that is the complete diminishment of America in the eyes of the entire world and as a corollary of America as an ally and the dollar as a reserve currency. If America is no use as an ally because of one borderline moronic congresswoman, what use is the dollar? Why should the EU use it to buy oil? All that is over. Listen carefully. Russia will not be given a froen conclict, normalisation, Crimmnea any kind of victory or any kind of peace even with a Putins sucessor. Russia in a sucidal act by Putin decided to start a war with Ukraine but then decided to start a war with the EU and stated that repeatedly that it bel;ieved it was in a war with the EU while the EU looked on in disbelief. Well be careful with what you wish for. Russia has made Ukraine loosing an extensional threat to European democracy, the EU and European peoples from the Baltic through Scandinavia and eastern Europe but also into Spain via its e.g fostering Catalan militants or Corsican militants, northern Italian separatists, communists and pro Russian populists as well as interfering in domestic politics and directing mass immigration immigration into the EU. Russia is finished. It has chosen a one way path of escalating conflict with a power block that is massively greater economically better and more heavily armed and with three times the population. Russia is finished. There is no possibility for victory for Russia or indeed much of a future and the USA vacating the position of leader of the free world does not change that one bit. Russia right now has an economy smaller than that of Italy. Have you ever consider WHY imperial Japans defeat by the US was inevitable? Maybe you should. There is nothing more pathetic than watching morons echo the bullshit from Russian propagandists. Its not a debate, Russia has already lost. That's the reality, Sweden and Finland just went under Frances and the UKs nuclear deterrent. There is no prospect of any kind of victory in Ukraine and the more days that pass where Russia losses 100-200 vehicles and a thousand men while it burns through the dregs of its fiscal and economic strength the better. Russia is done.

Nah, we are going to end this was on Inauguration Day. Haven't you seen Trump's leaked plan to end the war in one day?

It's genius. Bully Europe and Ukraine with threats, threaten to pull back militarily against future threats from Russia, and threaten to withhold previously promised financial aid for rebuilding. Then tell Ukraine and Europe all these bad things will happen unless the war ends. How will it end? Ukraine just have to cede Russia the land it wants, including territory Russia hasn't even won in combat.

It's genius! As Trump pointed out, baby formula was very expensive here due to it being stupidly all produced in one place. Because of that, we simply cannot afford to support the war and must end it!

You know for years I blamed the US retreat from security issues on weak leadership. If only a non-weak President would appear everything would be better. But there’s been 3 Presidents covering 12 years (and an additional 4 years in the future). Is this a really unfortunate run of weak administrations? Or is there something more systemic going on? Is it that the bureaucracy (both civilian and military) itself doesn’t want to be at war or really do any sort of exertion and is now too powerful to be denied? Is society itself too weak from various factors, which the bureaucracy reflects? Could it be the military itself is actually not in any shape to do any serious combat? I’m starting to suspect that last one could be the case from various hints — ie, in Bolton’s book he mentioned that Trump says the military wanted the Taliban deal because they didn’t have enough troops to properly defend themselves or something like that. In 2022 Biden tried to order a MEU to Europe, but it FAILED to arrive and the military said they weren’t able to meet the target date because of various issues. Yes, the MEU which are created to put move Marines into action anywhere in the world within hours notice literally failed to deploy to EUROPE when war broke out. I didn’t really understand the excuse given because surely an MEU on some training / non-critical deployment could re-tasked even if the one they had ready wasn’t ready. Maybe the last 3 Presidents really did try to look at military options for security issues but always got frustrated. I have no hard evidence of that of course but it could be the real issue the military has degraded too much during peacetime and no one’s noticed?

      Anonymous

GWOT really fricked up the military, forcing it to take on a role it isn't really meant for. It also massively overstretched the all volunteer force to the breaking point, with stop loss and all sorts of morale killing shit and taking anyone with a pulse in.

We also had sequestration, which was a huge budget cut that was supposed to be "unthinkable" for Republicans as a motivator to get them to approve raising the debt ceiling to borrow for money the US had already spent (the whole, "let's threaten to default on our debt," thing is hyper moronic). But we have reached peak clown show in Washington so basically the whole Asia Pivot got cut.

And now you have an issue where the half of the country that used to give the military reliable support has decided it's actually the enemy all because multiple DoD Secretaries called the Orange Augustus a moron who Tweeted and watched cable news through briefings, had an 8th grade understanding of world history, and saw all geopolitics as part of the culture war. But of course, the great leader appointed these guys to run the nation's military, so when they all call him moronic, Id wager it's just because he's moronic. At any rate though, now they hate the military and the intelligence services. Apparently the only courageous warriors in the US are fricking police unions (LOL).
