Having to shop online for electronic components is driving me crazy, specially since some of that stuff can only be found on China.

I wish radioshack hadn't gone out of business.

Have you searched for a local place? There was one still around like 30min away from me but they closed up shop maybe 3-4 years ago.

The place I’m talking about sold components and such, but they also had a TV-radio repair business and I’m sure that kept them afloat in the age of the internet, but now you can’t survive repairing TVs when a brand new 55” Hisense 4K smart TV is like $228 at Walmart.

What does being harassed about signing up for a cell phone contract have to do with electronic parts?

They didn't go out of business. They still have over 50 stores and a website.

          >and a website
          >literally nothing on it
So some mega corp retail giant just owns the brand to keep the web page alive?

They were liquidated, so yes, they went out of business. The remaining storefronts were independent electronics dealers, mostly in small towns, that were a "Authorized Radio Shack Dealer". They were never owned by Radio Shack, they just sold Radio Shack goods in areas without an actual Radio Shack.
As for the website, the Radio Shack brand was purchased in bankruptcy court and has gone through a couple of uses since then by the new owners.

Radio Shack has been shit for thirty years or more.

Build your own bench stock instead. Since the electronic project world continues unabated, copy success. Find online sources and don't need brick and mortar (who are just intermediaries who order online anyway). Not even real boomers need brick and mortar electronics stores.

What’s the difference between a radio shack salesman and a used car salesman?
The used car salesman *knows* he’s lying.
