no because it's not good to cause unnecessary suffering. we have more humane modern methods like guns. in a survival situation sure, otherwise it's in bad taste and shows a low level of mental maturity to do it for "fun."
much harder to get a perfect hit let alone without the animal being alerted before it's hit. also, a bullet is obviously much faster so it takes longer for a creature to even know it's been hit with anything, therefore reducing time feeling pain before it dies.
It takes a lot more maturity to kill something with your barehands than with a 30-06.
I think you're mistaking "false bravado" with maturity. by your logic, go ahead and try to kill something with your bare hands tough guy. even a whitetail deer would put you in the hospital.
Spear hits don't need to be perfect to kill, once they're in the animal the animal running around in an adrenaline state opens itself up as the handle bounces off the ground and brush, if you want to compare perfect throws against perfect heart / headshots then they're the same, when comparing "bad" shots / throws, I think it's pretty obvious that a poorly placed gun shot is going to lead to much worse outcomes for the animal, like dying from sepsis over a week or longer.
>much harder
What that means in practice is that only ones who actually know what they're doing even think seriously about doing so, while any drunken hillbilly can (and will) randomly slug a whole forest and anything living in it full of lead.
most "spear" hunters are literally doing it for thrill, which is the wrong reason to kill. you can look on YouTube all you want. it's the reality. much more variables that can go wrong, and often do. whataboutism doesn't change what someone criticizes. if you think it's "badass" to hunt with a spear then fine, but that also means that you prefer to sport hunt. just be genuine and admit it.
every one would think that's cool, if someone told you that they killed a full grown grizzly bear with a spear, you would think that's cool. even a type-a vegan would think that's cool
could, would, I asked chatGPT >does a human wearing armor and hunting with a spear have a chance to kill a small bear?
if a person were to find themselves in a situation where they had to defend themselves against a small bear, wearing armor and using a spear could potentially increase their chances of survival. The armor might provide some protection against the bear's claws and teeth, while the spear could be used as a means of keeping the bear at a distance and delivering potentially lethal blows. >could a human in plate armor with long sharp blades mounted on the armor for the arms win in a fight with a grizzly bear
While plate armor with long, sharp blades mounted on the arms may provide additional protection and offensive capabilities, it would still be highly unlikely for a human to win a direct fight against a grizzly bear.
Embrace comfy hunting >plastic bucket >gallon water jug >pvc pipe >cotton sheet
You can catch a lot of animals just by running up to them and grabbing them, we've got opposable thumbs for a reason.
Do you really need to slay the animal? Murder it? Attack it with a weapon? It's silly and you'll hurt yourself. Catch the animal without hurting it and it won't really struggle that much, tie it up and if you've got to kill it do it cleanly.
If you thread wire through any old cotton sheet it makes a net you can control an animal with. Dig a hole and put your container into it, put the net over the container, bait the container, hoist up the animal, wrap the net around the animal and store it in the plastic container. Take it home, be nice to it, eat it, up to you.
Want to hunt a pig? You need a huge gun? Some kind of medieval pike? A compound bow?
No, you just leave alcohol lying around in a bucket and then try to find the drunk pig after it passes out.
Deer? Lmao just cut the top of a gallon water bottle and peel the top outwards and then put a self tightening loop on it with trapping wire. The duur will go for the apple, get the bottle stuck on its head and tighten it by moving. If you tie the bottle to a tree they will just sort of stand around until the other deer abandon them. Feels bad man. Sometimes they run off into the woods with the bottle on their head and run into trees or break their legs which isn't nice all. Most animals that get covered in a sheet won't panic, they just sit down and wait for you to come.
No need, although I have both what's the point in using them like that?
What's the point in not?
>what's the point in using them like that?
Reverence.
Revere the rabbit up close and personal like.
Spear hunting Javelina sounds fun, but what tag would that be under? Archery?
Spear
Thought about it when I was stoned and then I sobered up.

Modern spears probably kill in less average time per hit than rifles do FYI.

why did you put quotes around the word spear?
I don't know.
YouTube channels are in the business of content creation, not the ostensible thing they're showing you, you should know that by 2015.
Isnt the whole point of hunting doing it for fun?
A spear will usually kill faster than a bullet unless you shoot the heart, spine or brain. Blood loss is the killer.
You shouldn't be shooting anywhere else other than the brain or the heart and lungs group, Satan.
have you ever hunted with your teeth?
have you ever hunted teeth?
We hunted small boar with just a rope, and a knife for safety.
spear fishing is fun activity unless you are drunk and alone doing it with a canoe
then you are going to have a wet time
t. many such experiences
No
The problem with doing stuff like this for the cool factor is that you have to tell someone about it and that makes it uncool
if someone told me they slayed a bear with a spear i would think that its really cool
You would, but most people outside of this board would think you're a mentally unhinged weirdo. PrepHole isn't popular in the real world.

Well thats why you're uncool
Ive hunted men with far less
I feel like most of you have never had to kill something with your bare hands and it shows.

Besides the part where you mentioned grappling animals you are describing trapping, which is a different discipline than hunting.
I've hunted ducks with a blowgun before. 7/10 experience. Would do again.
Nope but sometimes I grab a stick
