Has this shit ever been explained?

How did Hondas marketing team build a mock up of something that looked exactly like the B-2 for an ad, before the USAF even unveiled the real B-2 to the world?

How did they know?

This is a good question. Either the nips had a back-channel to the DOD or there had been enough sightings of the B2 a year prior to its first public flight in 1989 (this ad was run in 88) that they could have put 2 and 2 together. Maybe some oldgays can weigh in.
This is interesting anon, thanks for not creating another stupid thread on here. Stick around a bit.

Sadly the mockup was destroyed to make room for a B1-B

shame, B1 is cool, but that honda mockup was neat too, and one of a kind.

if Honda wasn't sued, Northrop execs were in on it

Maybe the japs had a role in development

This all has clear vibes of
      >US DOD works with nips to build stealth bomber
      >Honda does a ton of leg work for stealth geometry
      >US finalized design and tells Honda "lmao nah we're going with a totally different design you guys didn't help with at all" so they don't have to pay them anything
      >Honda bitterly releases their plans to the public since theirs was totally unrelated by US DOD's own admittance and therefore not breaking any contract or NDA

Moron. B-21 is just a modernized Northrop design.

What does something from 1988 have to do with the B-21?

Probably just put out a request for concept sketches of next generation stealth aircraft and hit upon the most aesthetic design. Its not unheard of to get at least basic information about projects like this; friggin Halo CE took a bunch of inspiration from real DARPA documents for the design of the Marines and Vehicles.

It's significantly different other than being a black flying wing. Even then the wing layout is different. Tail isn't even close etc.

It was known that Northrup was the builder, and widely expected to be some sort of flying wing, based on Northrup's history. The exact details weren't known, but there are only so many things that you can do with a stealthy flying wing.

The big shock was the F-117. Everybody had expected the F-19 to be a streamlined fighter-bomber, not a medium-altitude multi-faceted light bomber carrying a pair of 1-ton Paveways and nothing else.

I miss my 1985 Honda CRX Si
1800 lbs curb weight, 91HP, 38 mpg combined, 5 speed manual, $20 tires....

I sold her for $1200. She had 380,000 miles, and the car was pretty clapped out. Still had the original engine.

However I now drive a worthy replacement that handles and drives damn near identically as the Honda. So I'm not too devastated.

Because Northrup had been trying to make a flying wing since the XB-35 and YB-49

So Honda went "Let's assume that whatever they're making is a futuristic YB-49 and one up them... we'll likely be right."

There was a german WWII prototype that looked kind of like it, maybe they were basing it on that

They knew because of all the drawings in magazines and on TV shows of the time.
