has anyone here caught a salmon and ate it raw after killing it?

has anyone here caught a salmon and ate it raw after killing it? doing it bear grylls style would probably be unpleasant because of the bones, but it should still taste better than the flash frozen ones. bonus points if it has eggs

By the time the fish gets to the end consumer it has been hard frozen to kill all the parasites. Please refrain from commenting on things you clearly don't know anything about.

Nope. Never. In fact salmon was never used as sushi and sashimi prior to farmed salmon being introduced to Japan.

I've eaten raw striped bass, but never salmon, I don't know if I'd trust a fish out of freshwater even if it's ocean run. I can tell you that fresh striper was amazing when it was caught off the beach 20 minutes prior.

Sushi grade fish is typically flash frozen to kill parasites.

how safe are tuna? i heard that the FDA doesn't have flash freezing rules on them cause they are bigger

I dunno, we don't have tuna in Alaska.
If you eat sashimi or steaks regularly I believe there is a real danger of mercury poisoning though.
Eating canned tuna is apparently better since it is often sourced from smaller fish (less mercury accumulation).

Joking aside. I was watching a video of an Alaskan catching smelt. He was using it as bait and said that people eat them, but he never has. He's eaten carp, gar, bowfin, etc., so his prejudice, which came across in his delivery, seems unreasonable to me. I grew up in Chicago, and I've had fried smelt a couple times. It was good. How do people eat smelt in Alaska? Is it commonly eaten?

Yeah most people (especially americans) don't realize that it's better raw. The stuff sold in stores is boiled and mixed with hormones and chemicals and additives. What's crazy is the fed made it illegal to sell raw milk commercially in the US, there's several famous meme cases about organic farmers getting raided by 30+ armed feds because they were selling raw organic milk.

The people on YouTube who eat raw meat and milk get bacterial and viral illnesses on a regular basis from it. Eggs are perfectly safe to eat raw because they have a impermissible membrane around them, except in my country the USA Wich has piss poor food safety standards. In my country they let eggs fester in chicken shit for days so they end up getting infected with salmonella for the most part.

Salmonella only comes from sick animals . And people consume raw meat without getting infections. I know all this info is earth shattering and its hard to beleive because "big food and pharma" in your mind are safe and effective. Infections are actually detoxes. Again , think about cause and effects.
Do you guys also think antibiotics are harmless? You know the warnings list they Can cause organ damage? You know they kill loads of good bacteria? You know most "sickness" is better to let it run its course? Because it is fact a detox , not a "bug" the body has to fight...

It is obvious you have done no deep research that opposes your view and you are too scares and will not let your ego be crushed and admit you are actually wrong
At least learn more about the opposing view a little more so you don't appear to be a total dum dum

I’ve heard Aajonus talk about that years ago, how illness is just body getting rid of toxic stuff. I think the whole terrain theory is probably way closer to the truth than germ theory, it just feels like there hasn’t been enough real science done in the modern era for us to get a better picture of the truth. By chance do you have any recommended reading for this area? Ive beenlooking for a book to dive deeper.

            >I think the whole terrain theory is probably way closer to the truth than germ theory

              Anonymous

Not saying I agree with this guy but you don't have to deny germ theory altogether to make his point. Obviously bacteria and viruses are responsible for a bunch of diseases, we've isolated them and can prove their effects. But you can argue that the "always just kill the germs to treat the disease" practice is oversimplified and not always the best course of action for your overall well-being. We have internal defense mechanisms like fever to counteract these things--there's some truth to the detox thing though "all infection is just detox" is a fricking moronic take--and I think it is true that today we're overzealous at using medication to try to alleviate the uncomfortable symptoms of disease, and causing unintended consequences as a result. Medicines have side effects, and antibiotic resistance is becoming a real problem. And it's plausible that our immune systems are growing weak as a whole because we use medicine so much that your immune system never really gets a workout anymore.

I take a common sense middle ground, I try to sweat out minor illnesses and let my immune system do the work but I get actual medical treatment if something is really bad. No one can deny that less otherwise healthy adults are dying of disease today than at any point in history.
