Has anyone ever tried putting a c clip or something in the area I have circled? I'm not thinking about trying to retain the dust cover hinge there, but the EPC got me thinking: couldn't we just block the range of movement by adding a c clip there, and thus get half the benefit of an epc for like... 5¢?
Maybe a c clip isn't the right answer, might need to be an actual washer or something, but it seems like that would be a much cheaper way to achieve the same thing the EPC does.
yeah
What?
Are you fricking high?
how do i keep my dust cover closed bros. every time i shoot it opens up. i dont want it open
your rifle is empty, try filling it with dust
It's that all the EPC does? Just blocking the fricking dust cover from moving every slightly less forward? That's what they are charging $50+ for?
And some dimples.
Op here: no, it stops it from opening as wide. The screenshot I'm posting here is from their website. I'm basically wondering if there is something we can put in that space I circled in the OP to do the same thing.
Add jb weld or whatever to the standard dust cover where it interacts with the lower, that little ramp. You'll get the desired increased angle for whatever reason you and FCD think it's a good thing to have.
I actually doesn't really think it's anything special, just trying to build hax for the poors
What the frick is the point of this
FCD has the rationale that it will make the dust cover easier to close.
>dust cover easier to close.
>50$ to improve a part that almost no one actually has a need for
Imagine not being able to close the dust cover. Might as well just grab a whole different frickin platform, wait til you find out the charging handle has a latch.
The charging handle is actually moronic and shit though.
>the charging handle has a latch.
I automatically hate anyone that wastes $50 on this and not ammo or range fees.
To rob morons on here of their ill earned money
This is what we're fricking doing now? Optimizing the fricking dust cover opening angle to a perfect 125 degrees thanks to the fricking $50 Enhanced Port Cover?
What is the year that marks the cutoff for the last worthwhile thing 'invented' for the AR platform? I'm leaning towards 2008 or so.
I mean, I'm not offended by optimization. I am offended by that optimization taking the form of a $50 dust cover lol
let's just get the dust cover from counter-strike that shuts automatically. And rig the charging handle up to the forward assist so we can charge the gun by pulling on it, but still push forward on it.
I hate gunsoomers so much it's unreal
This is why I'm asking if there's a better way. Cause I'm trying to find ways to convince people not to just buy shit all the God damn time. I mean if I had access to a way to stamp the dust covers with a little nub to prevent them from opening the way that FCD does I'd just pump them out all day every day and sell them for $5 like any other dust cover. Hell I'd probably make a killing doing it do, "better" dust cover for 1/10th the price of FCD while retaining the aesthetics of a regular dust cover would probably get me free from work for like 6 months
just copy the strike industries cover and add some adhesive backed rubber strips at the bottom of the cover. has the amusing added effect of being silent when it opens.
the issues i see from there is possible binding and impossible to uninstal without fricking everything up. you could easily get it installed but out ehhh
I think a bushing might be a better answer, cause then you'd just insert the hinge through it along with everything else.
Based 1.6 moron
this is exactly what OP means.
Can it not be accomplished by having the dust cover spring hold the cover closed instead of open and removing the detent?
That would induce malfunctions for sure, unless the spring was REALLY weak, and even then I'm not sure it would work
I'm almost willing to try this, if it doesn't work it's an easy enough fix
would probably need something in the bolt to bump it open (or have something in the cover that the bolt can bump into) with spring then closing it, similar to how for example PKM does. Alternatively
Anon, the AR15 bolt already bumps the dust cover open. Why do you think there's a detent in the middle of it?
I have one small enough. I'm gonna try it. Stay tuned.
Tight, thanks.
Here we go, let's see what happens with this moron's idea
You know, this might keepa dust cover from interfering with a PDQ lever if you're someone who has that problem.
ARgays have reached the end of their development cycle, THIS is considered innovative in 2022
On that note magpul just came out with a toolless dust cover
>toolless dust cover
Like the strike industries dust cover?
It slipped over the e clip.
video of you shooting it show us if 1.6 moron's idea comes true
Damn. The anon who suggested the jb weld probably had it right then. I might try some bushings or whatever, but the jb weld seems right on. If I like the results with the jb weld I might try spot welding for a more permanent solution.
>spot welding
>Aluminum lower
Hope you know what you are doing Anon
I think he's gonna add material to the standard stamp steel dust cover.
Godspeed
I had these small rectangle magnets and placed one of them on the steel dust cover and it gives me the increased angle just like the EPC.
>Arc welding steel to aluminum
>7075 aluminum
>spot welding = arc welding
?
>ejection port cover = aluminum
???
Bottom view
I think it would need to be bigger to keep from rotating the back side out of the way
Have fun removing that KEK
It should be that hard, just grab with pliers and pull. Have you never removed a dust cover before?
It's off. Had to use a tiny flathead and that e clip is somewhere in the abyss.
Do you guys close your dust covers? I got in habit of closing it all the fricking time like some ocd shit.
Yeah I do this a lot. It’s kind of just a good habit to have I guess? Then again, I’m also anal retentive about all those clothing and hair fibers all over my guns
NGL, if someone made a pin or clip for the dust cover that opens and closes it after every shot, and that pin/clip made the dust cover make a loud *ping* or *sprong* sound, I would get it in a heartbeat.
whats the benefit
Ok I'm sorry for making fun of people who bought the GBRS meme mount, you really don't deserve the bullying, I'm sure it's a useful product at a great price.
Can someone who bought this please speak up so I can make fun of you?
Hahahahaha right? Like I don't really care if you wanna spend some money to get a different dust cover from what you got... But no dust cover is doing $50 worth of improvement.
