No. I’m 29 and I’ve had it as long as I can remember because I grew up shooting guns and half the time I didn’t wear ear pro lol

Also, get yourself a fan to run at night. It helps a lot and I’ve ran one for years to sleep. If the power goes off it’ll wake you up though once you’re used to it lol

(with gods mercy) the tinnitus does not hinder me in my sleep
the first week was absolute hell, like genuinely constant, extremely loud, high pitched ringing, throughout the entire day and night i could not sleep and straight up wanted to kill myself because it was just torture
went to a doctor, she said there is nothing she can do and there is no cure and it can get better, it can get worse, it can stay the same
with gods mercy it went back, i can sleep now with no problems and often times don't even realize it's there, but it is still there, but i guess i live with it
i am still very thankful, i can sleep and exist without constant tinnitus torture, nontheless it is always there, i just "zone it out" i guess

Tell us the full junkie story OP

it is genuinely not even worth talking about, saturday 11 am some junkie arab randomly broke my window with a hammer and i was in the living room and have a .38 next to my bed (i only have a 1 room apartment), he came to the living room and started threatening and approaching quickly, i got my gun and gave him 3 to the torso and 1 in the head, called the cops, two girl cops came and wrapped it up, i never got any punishment because it was a home invasion and the dude had a hammer, a knife and some cocaine on him, had to take anxiety meds for 3 weeks though

      >there are people on /k/ that don't have suppressors
      ?????????

suppressors are illegal in my state

also, i have a weird mental barrier now where i am afraid to pull the trigger of a gun even though i am wearing ear protection and i can be extremely sure my hearing is safe
some irrational part is still thinking "what if the earpro fails (as if) and you frick your shit up again and it's gonna be worse this time" like its some ptsd shit
i still shoot but i need like 5 minutes for the first shot and then i am sure "okay the sound will not damage me" and only then i can start having fun and shoot, hope that goes away soon too

          >like its some ptsd shit
totally standard ptsd shit bro, you just gotta work through it and teach your brain guns are fun again
          >i still shoot but i need like 5 minutes for the first shot and then i am sure "okay the sound will not damage me" and only then i can start having fun and shoot, hope that goes away soon too
practice that. figure out something to tell yourself that is actually comforting and repeat it like a mantra before firing. sit for five minutes and try to really feel the fear, immerse yourself in it, then let it go, tell yourself the sound won't damage you, and start shooting.
          Practice this.
Maybe also see an actual therapist, do some EMDR or something.

Courts only prosecute if there is a reason to. In a clear self defense case a prosecutor will not waste his time with your sorry ass. They will take your gun as evidence and you see that thing again in 4 years.

it’s never going away and it can very easily get worse or turn into hyperacusis. I stopped shooting due to this although my hyperacusis is from music. There are companies working on cochlea regeneration but it will be 10 years before a drug makes it out of trials.

  9. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

There is some work on using stem cells to regenerate the hairs in your ear that actually sense sound and are (in most cases) the cause of tinnitus. When will that be available to you? Probably a while, but it won't be never. Give it five or ten years.

It won't go away on its own, though.

I'm surprised it took that little, I had a jackass empty 6 rounds of .357 next to me once when I had no ears in, and I have earpro accidents sometimes otherwise, and I just get a little bit of "eeeeeeeee" once in a while

        >I'm surprised it took that little
To be honest, it depends. In a small enough closed off room a .22 can frick you frick. You can't compare the damage a gun does to your hearing outdoors vs indoors in a big hall vs indoors in a cramped hall, sound literally bounces off the walls and fricks you up

Just thought about it some more, he said he hit him 4 times with a .38 special, so he shot 4-6 times with a revolver, indoors like in a hallway or a small room this could easily frick your shit up

yeah it could, I'm just surprised, not calling bullshit or anything. I'm just glad mine isn't constant, between .357 bro and an Ar-15 indoors once, I'm just lucky I guess

Hearing is like youth, once it's gone it's gone forever
That's why I exclusively garotte home invaders, because even a loud enough scream can cause hearing damage under the right circumstances

    To all enjoy /k/ommando bros:
Google "steroid injections for tinnitus". Plenty of papers proving efficacy (including meta-analyses) on the first page. Unless you're locked up for weeks after a shooting, get your ass to the doc and get those needles in your ears within two weeks and you'll be golden.

      Anonymous

K and fit having crossover episode?
Sounds pretty cool though (also other neat side effects of steroids (if taken in non supethuman levels))

If I'm not mistaken they become worse at treating tinnitus the longer you put off injections, so OP should probably consider taking a trip to the doctor sooner rather than later.

also, i have a weird mental barrier now where i am afraid to pull the trigger of a gun even though i am wearing ear protection and i can be extremely sure my hearing is safe

As for the fear of gunfire, maybe a .22 or something would be a good way to get back in the swing of things? It seems like the best way to get over it would be to associate gunfire with dopamine, so maybe shooting something that provides visual feedback to your shots like steel or soda cans would be a good idea also.

Is it really worth it to go with anything over a .22 rifle for home defense? Centerfire handguns and rifles can easily be 20-30 decibels or effectively 100-1000x louder than a .22 rifle. Is it really worth the guaranteed extreme amounts of wear you'd be putting on your ears just to be prepared for the extremely unlikely possibility that situation you might find yourself in will require more than a .22 rifle?
