Just didn’t get around to buying pic rel when it was new a few years ago and could be easily found for under $700. Now “rare” and being gouged on GB for 1k plus.

This, though I will say JG has some GSS (gunsmith special) tier Chinese ones that all the reviews say has no issues. One review says the stock did have a minor crack, no other complaints of broken parts or stocks like the description hints at. $399.

Centerfire systems if they're still running their multi-month "anniversary sale", but no mags (~$100 extra w/ shipping, someone please find me a cheap surplus spare mag and put me out of my misery). Cheap ammo, though... =(

I will constantly envy my dad for a deal he got when he was my age. He had called a guy to work out buying a semi-auto RPK, but showed up right at the end of the gunshow. The dude had sold the RPK already, so he gave my dad a FRICKING CRATE of SKS's and two spam cans for $100, this was in 1992ish I think. Yeah I've got my pick of a thousand rifles of much better quality, but I like the SKS, and I want one for every cabinet with a spam can of ammo and a hundred stripper clips. Born too late bros.

Back in 2014 I had the opportunity to buy a SPAS-12 with the original box for $900. Folding stock and everything.

want those returns again? Buy cheap Turkish handguns today

        Anonymous

Probably. Popular for the time, in 10-15 years they'll either be everywhere or gone and either way ones from the first couple rounds of imports will probably be worth way more than you paid originally. Bonus if one shows up in a popular movie and gives them the Jurassic Park treatment.

        Anonymous

Those guns appreciated because they had history and were well made and crucially were limited in production numbers. They were cheap because of economies of scale from military contracts or low awareness. Turkshit is neither well made, nor does it have any sort of historical provenance, nor have they stopped making it. I mean some *might* appreciate but they'd be outliers.

The $500 PSLs in the late 2000s. Although if I got one, I wouldn't be shooting it much anymore given what ammo costs these days.

I remember at that time people were bashing them. Like get a wasr, the psl is garbage.

        Anonymous

IIRC the PSLs had serious problems with vertical shot stringing during rapid fire. Treat them like a designated marksman rifle and they shot tight groups. Start blasting away quickly because ammo was cheap and your zero would start to wander.

I was fully aware of PSLs back then and didn't buy one and don't regret it a bit. If someone offered me one for $500 today I would accept only to resell. They were always cope SVDs.

What inspires someone to think like this? An SVD clone will run you close to $10k these days. Imagine completely refusing to own a DMR in a remotely similar style even at $500 because it isn't the one that costs close to $10k.

One of the only 3 SVDS (folding stock) imported in my country back before the war and thus stoppage of all imports. It was like 1200 euro more than the normal price of a tigr so I hesitated thinking prices would fall once they imported more. I still cringe at my stupidity.

Chinese Mosin carbine, $250. Pitted around the chamber under the stock which freaked me out a little. Looked like it was carried a lot, finish was worn heavily. Early import mark as IIRC it only said "China" and nothing else. Deeply regret not getting it but man, it was that or my .22 I use to hunt and love dearly; I could only have bought one at the time due to poorgayism. I'll regret it and probably end up paying $350 on one (ouch), I'm sure, but it went too quick for me to buy it. Apparently had the chance to buy it for $200 if I had found the previous owner. And that was during covid panic buying of all times.

At 1 point maybe 2013 - 2014 we're selling these at like $80 - $90 a pop if you agreed to buy at least 2. They were described as rough.

And that's what I really regret missing. I saw that era come and go. it's a rather rough Mauser with rather rough sights. the form factor and looks are neat, which is why I bought it when it was cheap. had to take a file to the safety to make it work. all cleaned and lubed it works fine, but vompared to a Swede it's a piece if junk. get a Swede when you can.

How does it shoot? I was choosing between a FR8 and a bland, rebarreled 98 rifle for a 7.62 Mauser and went with the latter because the few forum posts on FR8s I found said they were more of a cool gun than a good gun.

it kicks because it's light. sights are okay, but a hassle to adjust. you can hit the target if you can shoot.

        Anonymous

I dont own one but my great grandpa lets me shoot his when I'm at his place. Sights suck and get in the way when you are using the bolt leading to bleeding fingers, the bolt itself rattles and doesnt feel quite right (matches the gun), the recoil is the worst on any rifle I've ever shot due to how light it is and the report is so goddamn loud from how short the barrel is (only 16") it leaves my ears ringing loudly after only a handful of rounds even with doubled up earpro.
Its a novelty rifle and not even particularly fun to shoot.

    >Thread about guns you missed out on for whatever reason
My Dad was a collector, had over 40 guns and family civil war relics like calvary sabre, musket with bayonette, etc...
When my parents seperated my mom pawned all his guns AND family heirlooms for pennies on the dollar. Mini-14s still in the box and plastic from the 1980s were sold for $60, etc...
Then she had him thrown in prison for failure to pay child support and while in there, filed for divorce and he had no way of getting representation or maybe he didnt know so she got to keep the whole house and everything in it.

Awful fricking c**t. My father died of alcoholism and depression a few months ago and she had the audacity to ask for one of his guns (since he kept collecting since he lost them all to her), claiming I now had so many surely I could give her one. b***h destroyed my family by making him sleep on the couch, pouring vodka on his face, not giving him any love so he had to find it elsewhere, his bank records showed he simped for this trashy hooker, gave her all his money because it was the only thing that made him happy

I got no inheiritance from him and she married a guy 20 years younger than her so i wont get her inheiritance either. She wants me to give her grandkids. And for what? She hasnt done anything for me. She has since claimed to have "Found God" and is now a qanon boomer rambling schizo

I'm tempted to take a picture of myself losing my virginity to a guys butthole and showing it to her, telling her i'll give her grandkids if she sells me her house for $1

Thanks for listening to my ramblings

100% swiss 551-2sp rifle that was imported for a fish and wildlife depatment in the 90's. They wanted just under 4k for it at the time (this was well before JDI was a thing). I got the 552, but wished I could have swung both.

Late 90's at a gun show in south MS a vendor had a pristine svt40 for $350. I still think about it to this day. Pic is the one that didn't get away.

This one pisses me the frick off. Saw them at a Pawnshop in Phoenix crawl down to $800. Had just built an AR and didn’t want something that was totally a novelty gun to be my next purchase.

Fast forward half a year and they get discontinued and immediately sell out everywhere. Apparently one of their manufacturers went belly up from Covid and they sold off some essential machinery.

They’re still out there but not at a price i’m willing to pay.

      BRN-10's?

i built two of them, trust me anon they fricking sucked. they looked GREAT but they sucked.

the charging handle retainer spring was SO fricking hard, you basically had to mortar the rifle every time to charge it.

THEN once you got the retainer spring a little broken it, it would then completely fail to retain the charging handle, so it would fly back and tap you in the face after every shot.

trust me, they fricking suck. i built each one ofr ~$600 and sold them for $1,500 each. i bet the dudes who bought them are pissed lol.

    >Yugo underfolder for $400 at another LGS

There was a $4k, full auto, vintage, 50 round drum mag tompson at a bass pro shop in virginia. I had the money to get it, unfortunitely i was in the marines and i wasnt allowed to keep personal owned firearms on base. On top of this, my parents couldnt hold onto it because my father has a criminal record and the atf would probably finger his butthole and shot my dog once they caught wind of my purchase. My LGS once had a factory produced 14" Winchester 94 from 1921. They had to send it to the ATF field office for them to see if it was actually a factory produced 14", it ended up being legit so they sent it back with a NFA exemption letter. They wanted 1400 for it at the time, but I was poor

Bought a Swiss 1889 from a guy at a gun show, fairly priced in good condition. He had 5 boxes of 7.5x53.5 for sale. He kept going on and on about how rare it was. Was told from a young age never to buy ammo at gun shows cuz it's hugely overpriced in general. Can't find GP90 anywhere. I've put exactly two rounds through the gun in 10 years, cuz my dad happened to have two rounds in a can in his basement from the 70s.

So more like the ammo that got away, but still.

          it shoots

The only company making new production 7.5x53.5 is a Swiss company who makes like 10 cases every 5 years for ludicrous prices + shipping + ordering foreign ammo. I just recently got into reloading, so maybe I'll use some .308 dies and make my own in the coming months, once I'm more confident in my ability.
