GPS jamming

Technically it's aircraft reporting reduced navigation accuracy from GPS interference but yeah, it's mostly jamming.
Just look where it's happening.

I didn't know about this site until it popped up on a claim that Iran is about to attack Israel (supposedly US just warned Israel of plans to launch drones, rockets etc).

If you gave a billion and a half monkeys typewriters they'd eventually come up with a funny joke. India seems to bat well above average at around 4-5 that I've seen.

Credit to all the actors/the actress in this vid for epic facial expressions ... it's an old joke, but it checks out and they gave it a new twist.

I've seen a few more than that, and it kills me a little bit inside to admit it. But, fair is fair ... gonn'a have to say I've seen about two dozen or so pretty fricking funny bits done by poojeets in my lifetime. A billion and a half poostreet monkeys are going to come up with a few things every now & again.

Way back in the day (like 2005-2008 or so) there was a website called Bombay.tv I think, and they had old clips from bollywood films from the 80s, with a few small scenes with a 3-point interaction and you could fill in subtitles and they would generate the clip, had some good laughs back then.

Indians weren't that bad til maybe covid or a little before. They have become mostly insufferable but they can still make some good stuff if you don't want to be so serious. It's no Wakiliwood though, That Ugandan motherfricker is pure kino.

Could be either side doing the jamming.
It *might* be an attempt to prevent drone overflights, it could also be the effects of some extra spicy or sloppy radio transmitter.

yep im right in that red shit

occationally while driving with gps on i see myself in other countries. when fly my FPV quad locking on gps takes 5 minutes and sometimes shows my quad being 60000m up in the air on another continent. there are places where i get good gps lock but when i go over a specific hill it gets all fricked up, probably it's where it locks on a fake jamming 'sattelite' which gives distorted gps signals

shit fricking sucks i just installed gps in one of my FPV quads and i wanted to test the gps-return-to-home feature in case i ever lose reception. now im scared to fly it long distances

You're probably right to fear that.
Assuming it's DIY or you're comfortable with heavy mods, is there any way to do INS with an arduino?
It doesn't need to be perfect, drift is ok, it just needs to get near your home and then presumably GPS would be ok then.

You can't monitor GPS devices like that, there's no connection, GPS devices are receivers only, no transmitter.
GPS satellites are send-only (at least to the GPS devices).

It's not jamming signal strength, it's reports of degraded navigation performance, via ADS-B/ADS-C, from aircraft overflying that area. The actual jamming is likely coming from Crimea/Krasnodar and Israel/Cyprus respectively, but only aircraft flying NEAR the jamming (not over it for obvious reasons cough cough MH-17/that Ukrainian flight in Iran in 2020) can report it.

Actual SIGINT captures from the area would show the jamming as clearly coming from the source.

Also I shouldn't have to restate this but aircraft do NOT fly over Ukraine, Crimea, or Krasnodar/the Russian border within about 150 km of Ukraine. They stopped doing that in February 2022. It's not possible for a commercial aircraft to report navigation performance in those areas, because there aren't any.

Pic related at 0900Z, you can see that the area of heavy jamming SW of Crimea is basically the only place aircraft fly. You can also see that nobody flies near Ukraine on the Russian side, it's a bit lightly occupied right now but they have a pretty well defined flight route that's far away from Ukraine for flights towards the Caspian Sea.

I certainly discovered it through a habbening post so your suspicions aren't unreasonable but no, I'm here because jamming and EW has been a constant topic throughout the last two years and I had just discovered a site that mapped (approximately) one form of it.
You'll note that I never mentioned where I found it after the once and aren't even naming the habbening in this post. I actively try to ignore and avoid that habbening because I can't find the slightest admirable thing in it. I mean the IDF has reactivated jamming around Israel and they are anticipating an attack from Iran in the next 24-48 hours. That's not unreasonable, and definitely not a ITS HABBENING post.

The writer is implying that the habbening would be that the provocation is on a warlike scale and that it would not be so much responded to as defended against in a new war.

Not that you or I need to believe or care about it but if it does lead to a constant conflict rather than sporadic dick moves, it's yet one more entry in the "factors leading to..." chapter.
That's what made me read it anyway but I shared it here because of the jamming map.

      >Do we need to teach pilots to emphasize on dead reckoning and nav computers again
It's not as bad as that I think because commercial planes, international ones at least, now mostly use constant satlinks and transponders that aren't so easy to shut off.
It's been a thing since MH370 though it was that Air France one before it that started to get people talking.

      Anonymous

You can use radio beacons, yeah. The plane does dead reckoning by itself and far more accurately too.

The bigger problem with degradation of navigation performance is that you have to reduce the number of planes that can fit in a certain area. That's a big reason why everyone went to GPS and shit, not just to make things easier, but also to decrease the intervals required between planes, since you know your altitude/position within a few meters continuously. GPS becoming inoperative makes that kinda tricky to do, which would cause problems.

But yeah there's a move back towards non-satnav sources of positional data. It's not being pushed particularly hard yet but IMO will be after some catastrophic black swan mid air at cruise altitude near Israel or some shit. Or after someone accidentally flies "directly at" a Russian or Chinese ship doing GPS jamming and eats a SAM.
