you could try mineral spirits followed by metal polish but it likely won't help

Is that stainless? It didn't do anything but dissolve the nasty shit already on there.
Get some clr and scrub that thing with steel wool

It's acrylic. It ate away the black shiny coating.

An acrylic sink? What the frick? Since it was a piece of garbage before your wahman melted it, you can do whatever you want to "fix" it, so start by sanding it all smooth and resurfacing it with fiberglass or tinted epoxy. You'll definitely need to remove the flange, clean out all the old plumber's putty, and replace it with new.

They're relatively common these days it seems for kitchens. I hate the shit but whatever. It's apparently a $400 piece of shit. I had read about acrylic enamel for painting then using an acrylic topcoat. Would that make much a difference from epoxy?

The epoxy is more of a protective shell, so sand & paint with acrylic first, then clearcoat the bottom once you get the paint looking good. Otherwise the paint will chip and scratch.

Alrighty, anon. I've never used epoxy before but I guess no time better than now. I appreciate the advice. What grit sandpaper do you think I should use it would it particularly matter?

180, 320-360 and 600 in that order. Then polish with rubbing compound. Go slow, wipe the surface down every once in a while, and feel for imperfections with your bare hand. You won't be able to see most of it until your first coat of paint.

Sounds good. Thanks again. I doubt I will get to it for a couple weeks due to circumstances but I will post the result in a new thread since this one will most likely be gone. That way you can be disappointed in my work.

Correction: use 100% silicone sealant, or special plumber's putty for acrylic sinks (non-oil based).

for the amount of effort this is going to be you should just go buy a cheap stainless drop in for 100 bucks and be done with it.

Its denatured, coatings will scratch. Put up with it until you can find a used stainless one then throw it away.

Ah, then it's fricked. You need to rip and replace it. Fortunately that's not a difficult or expensive job really. Don't waste your time thinking about re-finishing options, there aren't any.

You should check all of your PVC under the sink because acetone melts that too.

    This thread is wild.
You frickers are talking about painting a sink basin.
The working surface. Where all of the dings, etc are going to happen.
    It's utter nonsense.

      How would you repair it?
      Or is it irreparable?

Replace it with stainless like a rational human. Shit homie all kinds of nasty shit goes down the drain

If you clearcoat the paint it won't scratch. Granted, you'd have to maintain the clearcoat but that's easy. If anything it will buy Anon time until he can replace the sink. I'd be more worried about the PVC plumbing being fricked.
