I saw that on /msg/ so you're not a tourist, you get a pass
That said, the old bolt action isn't worth much in many such games unless you're some sort of god of aiming and map reading, and from owning a few I know that's realistic
>bolt action is a one shot kill
It's not a realistic trope at all. Devs want to balance the difficulty of the single shot slow firing weapon to reward skilful play, that's it.
>hurr durr how dare game developers try to make games rather fun than realistic >developers should rather pander to my autistic knowledge on bullet physics instead of making something that's well balanced and allows several approaches to solving a problem
I didn't say it was a bad thing. It makes sense from a dev's perspective.
Do you really go around being senselessly angry at people for things you imagine they said? It must be exhausting.

You implied heavily that by it not being realistic it's bad.

No I didn't, that's you reading things into it. The guy was saying it was a realism thing, whereas in fact it's about gameplay. In fact I thought that balancing risk, difficulty and reward is a sign of good design, or at least thoughtful design.

Yes, I am always angry and I will most likely die from anger related cardiac arrest.
>>bolt action is a one shot kill >It's not a realistic trope at all.
It is yoy don't walk away from those old .30 like 8mm mauser, 303, 30-06 etc if they hit a limb the amputate it, if they hit your torso, you're going to die unless you are incredibly lucky. Ask anyoe who hunts deer with them
>>bolt action is a one shot kill >It's not a realistic trope at all
Tell that to every deer I've ever shot

How do you guys function when you fail at language comprehension so badly?
The unrealistic part is that a .556 is not a one shot kill across most of the torso/head or that there's something mystical about the bolt action itself that generates more damage.

Every gun owner figures out at some point in their lives that secretly, the liberals were right all along and gun owners are on aggregate stupider than the rest of the population by a full quartile.
>difficulty of the single shot
But the single shot is easier. All you need is one (1) hit and that's it. No need to control recoil, no need to worry about how the enemy reacts after they're first hit. You just get a guaranteed kill if you manage to land a hit on someone.
Anywhere except CQC close enough to count nose hairs, the single shot is superior.
>If the game has at least semi-realistic ballistics, then ol' bolties tend to be hard-hitters
A 308 fired from a bolt action does not hit any harder or softer than a 308 fired from an automatic rife
I can't think of many games with bolt action rifles that don't include at least one rifle caliber select fire gun

Pretty much any game? Rising Storm 2, Insurgency Sandstorm, your choice of WW2 game. The only game I can think of that only has bolt actions with the occasional straight pull and lever action is Tannenberg.
kek this certainly isn't the worst PrepHole thread to ever grace /k/
For me its the old double barrel shotguns; in something like STALKER I'll always carry the sawn down old TOZ-34 or whatever the side by side model is along with my other weapons
I love using the lever actions. There's a lever gun in COD that's chambered in 45-70 Govt and it inexplicably hits harder than a rifle caliber battle rifle. It's great.
If you're gonna get a 45-70 I'd highly recommend getting into handloading if you aren't already. It's an excellent cartridge to mess around with loadings. You'll be able to get the most out of it power-wise and be able to make some lower-recoil plinking rounds to have fun with. A lot of 45-70 factory ammo is geared toward hunting and it can be a real shoulder rocker
And it's a fifty-fifty on it being a Mosin or a fricking Kar-98 of all things. I get having Mosins, there's a gazillion of those things, but why Mausers?
frick this was meant for PrepHole

If the game has at least semi-realistic ballistics, then ol' bolties tend to be hard-hitters, which makes them incredibly satisfying to use.
Modded STALKER comes to mind.

Getting shot in the head with 7.62 AP is gonna kill you dead pretty well.
Hah, joke's on you I keep my head half empty to avoid that.
Seriously though, so will a 5.56 to the head
And it does in STALKER
Unless the dude's wearing a helmet, in which case they tend to ricochet off unless you score a direct hit. Which is why 7.62 AP is preferable.
More or less it is though
If we're keeping it vidya, I feel like RS2 did it well. You really need to magdump into people if you don't hit vitals
Love me sum running through the jungle

Well, stop it I guess.

308 bolties are way more common in games than battle rifles are

With modern ammo you can make it hit harder but generally I guess it's just balancing
>45-70 Govt
>inexplicably hits harder than a rifle caliber battle rifle
>inexplicably
Oh well frick me then, I should buy a Marlin. I kneel .45.

My unpopular opinion is that guns should have stopped progressing after bolt action

There's a gazillion Mausers as well
I think it hits the same feel generic human fighter does. Something about the simplicity still leading you to victory despite being pretty plain
