Made with leftover construction scraps & end cuts from 2x4's soaked in homemade lard from last year's hog.
had about 3 tablespoons of lard in a jelly jar that went rancid before we used it all. split some 2" - 3" long scraps from construction with a hatchet. tossed kindling in heated lard.
free firestarters for our wood stoves. our stoves are not for hipster larping. we actually heat our home with wood.
>Using fake lightered
>Not LARPing
Good use of recycling.
Black folk
yeah... if your trying to get warm, and don't have existing coals it's nice to have the added BTU and burn time. I still use all the normal kindling, mail and paper trash. this gives that extra bit of BTU+time to get a solid start.
all leftovers. scrap wood and waste lard. clean, natural, free and effective.
no, you fricking moron. it's not "garbage" it's fricking wood. 2 oz of natural, homestead tallowed lard (oil) tossed on 3 lbs of kindling wood in no way makes it garbage.
what are you, Somali? parents related? room temp IQ suggests.
go sit at the kids table. the grown-ups are talking.
>mail
>paper
>rancid animal fat
spunds like a lot of garbage to me
i would slap you if i saw you putting any of that in my stove
There aren't many wood stoves in apartments and trailer houses. Maybe you have one in your parents' basement?
Where do you get your wood from anyway?
I bought 2 cords prior to starting construction on the house, August 2022. that was to get us started, and make sure we had something.
since then, we have been gathering wood from any source we find. I filled up two truck bed loads by trimming my dad's elm trees. I have been abke to get about a cord worth from my job by trimming and removing dead or overgrown trees. I have found several truck bed loads where trees fell over in windstorms. we just pull over, chop that shit and load it. property owner is happy because the tree is cleaned up, and we are happy because we got free wood.
we are also going to go to the city "brush chipping and disposal" sites to collect wood, if we find ourselves running low.
wood is out there, largely free for the taking, so long as you don't mind doing the work.
NTA but I use half and half pine cones and normal fire wood. The pine cones are dry and open so the effective area is large and the fire gets going really quickly.
Dry pine cones are also very effective in grills, quickly turning to red hot char.
Your trying too hard
>soaked in homemade lard
well to be fair, the pig made the lard -- you just harvested it
but this does bring new meaning to fatwood
how's it smell when you start one?
I used to make firefighters by dipping cotton makeup pads into melted wax until I realized it wasn't worth the time or effort just to save a few quid.
Arent construction 2x4s treated with some fire moronant stuff? Or am I wrong
not these. we do have scraps from "ground contact (arsenic) treated" lumber, but we make sure to seperate all of that from anything we might burn.
plain old construction lumber has no chemical treatments. unless you consider plywood or OSB, thise have binding agents (glue), but just like the treated lumber, we don't use it for burning in the house or cook stoves/smokers.
We just use wadded up newspapers and junk mail to start the stove...
you must not be burning thick pieces
Nta but if you start with paper, then some spill plane shavings, then finger sized pine twigs, then arm sized branches of softwood stacked to let air through, and then a big log of firewood on top in the center. It’ll start in minutes with a single match, and dry and pre heat the log while it does so.
But I like the lard wood idea tbh, would try it if I had animals
I usually throw some smaller pieces in the middle to get it going and big pieces around and on top for the smaller pieces to get going. Open damper, light newspaper and then close the doors down to a crack in the middle. The draft will pull air in and act like a blower getting the fire going. After lighting it we usually keep it going for a few days or however the cold spell is before letting it go out again.
I use plastic packaging that has been used for food, that is always chlorine free. When lit, the plastic melts around the wood and sets it on fire.
I get all the banker's boxes I want from work. I stuff them with leaves and small sticks and light them up and throw firewood on . They work great
>burning garbage in your stove
I don't know why you morons do this. Get a ton of scrap pine from your local mill and cut that shit up. It works perfectly fine
Is pine:
I lit my wood boiler 1 day and it didn't go out for 3 years. Why would I frick with hippy sticks when I can use a bernzomatic torch?
is that how your heat your water also? do you have Summer Temps where you are? is this a single family home?
water heat by wood is the only way I can imagine a 3 year burn, unless you live in Greenland, Canada or Alaska.
How did you clean the flue?
I use the head cuts from distilling as a clean-burning lighter fluid for my stove.
does this thread make anyone else hungry.
yes, i am also a fat frick
