The Russians have been complaining pretty loudly about the absolute state of their air defense recently. Some were even saying the Ukies are flying helos and attack aircraft near the front lines.
Maybe they brought those aircraft closer to try and spot them in time?

It seems like the Yooks have finally hit a tipping point of degrading pozziyan air defense, especially after taking those oil platforms and wasting multiple S-400's on Crimea

By many accounts they're now able to safely fly helos and frogfoots over combat zones, which means the puccians have the choice of either eating shit or shifting assets, either one gives ample opportunities for the Yooks to frick them in the ass and in this case they brought up AWACS too far.

This is how the war is going to degenerate for them going forward - they lose capacity, they're forced to either reorient their force organisation or bring older shit out of mothballs, the new paradigm exposes them to lose even more shit -> the spiral accelerates

              Anonymous

How fricking cool is it to be the special forces guys tasked with taking those oil platforms? The mission is so cool, so important, so well done. They even got to fire a manpad at a Russian jet to chase it off like out of some kind of movie.

They took out Russia’s radar systems then installed their own. That opened up gaps that Ukraine has been exploiting to hit Crimea ever since.

Interesting that they're claiming the IL-22M was destroyed. Here's hoping we get some images of it, assuming that the Ruskies weren't just lying about it limping back, to get a good BDA though I suspect it's in pretty bad shape even if it made it back

Even if it (crash)landed, it's likely a hull loss. Just because you can make it back safely, it doesn't mean the plane will ever fly again.
There was that Embraer used by a Belarussian airline that got cross-wired by mistake during overhaul, and, after the pilots eventually managed to land it, got immediately scrapped since it was bent like a banana from all the impromptu aerobatics.

It's a command post with frickload of electronics in it. If it was shredded enough this shit won't be repaired

Yes, and I said I suspected as much in my post, I'm just commenting that the Ukrainian assessment implies they have good BDA, more than just us extrapolating from there being reportedly 200s and 300s on the plane. I want to look at what a plane looks like after being peppered by a PAC-2 warhead

I assume targets circling around on the same spot was an evasion maneuvering, and seeing how they lost a signal, it wasn't successful.
I would assume that one target just dropped into the sea on the same spot it was hit, and the second one was only damaged and managed to fly away though it was steering in the wrong direction before losing signal, so I doubt it returned to the airbase under its own power.

There is nothing to 'notice' morons. The reason was because BulgarianMilitary did an article on how the A-50 was finding the Su-24-To to stop them launching SS. So somebody made a shitpost thread. It's called a coincidence. They happen every day.

I fricking hate polish. Using latin script like morons for when it doesn't even have half the latters you use wasn't enough for them, they just NEEDED to use the most unintuitive and uncommon latter combinations to make up for those sounds. They've could just adopt cyrillic like normal slavs do and it would've made their language twice shorter and ten times more easily readable, but I swear to God those fricking subhumans deliberately choose to bastardize their own language just for the sake of fricking larp.

                Anonymous

Wrong. The Poles use the "tail" or "circumflex" as French call it, to denote special effects.
They use ę in their "thank you," for example.
In other words, there's an easy fix for the letter soup. Instead of something like sz and cz, they could write ş or ç.
Other languages alreadybdo this with things like ś or ṣ. Romanian for example.

And I bet so do Hungarians and Czechs, and Slovaks, but that's just a guess.

I honestly agree, Czech and Slovak bros really got it right with their special letter equivalents to sz cz. If we did that all the common complaints disappear

Digraphs have to be uncommon combinations. Otherwise they'd get confused for two vowels.

Or they could have just adopted cyrillic at least partially and use a single latter for what they need four now.

Some other Anon explained that Ikea is seen as luxury, but of an attainable sort. The average russian will never drive a modern car, but with a smaller loan he can afford to buy a sofa and bookshelf.

                Anonymous

the reason why many young people even in OECD countries buy IKEA is that it is a highly durable, attractive and affordable middle-class option. you would have to pay 2-3 times the price for something that lasts 10 times longer.

needing a loan for a single Ikea sofa, holy shit lmao

regarding this guy's take on Polish Ikea sofas... domestic russian news reported that a Russian's average monthly salary is 1,000 dollars, and average monthly disposable income is 200 US dollars. a basic b***h Polish corner set is 2000 zlotys or 500 US dollars. the nice thing about Ikea being standardised worldwide is that the price isn't going to be extremely far removed.

so yeah, imagine if a sofa cost you half a month's salary. and imagine the typical Telegramming poorgay, who might conceivably be below even the Russian average. you betcha he would be taking out a loan for an Ikea sofa.

The shrapnel pattern seems to indicate that the missile detonated above the plane from what I can see, as it seems to be travelling down to the fuselage rather than coming up due to the lack of underbelly damage.

If if detonated roughly centre mass, it probably sprayed a good amount of shrapnel into the part of the plane where the command centre/cargo is held, which would explain how it managed to land as the wings and wienerpit would be relatively untouched.

    >Ukraine gets more Patriot batteries
    >suspiciously more Russian missiles get through air defenses
    >at the same time Russian planes are being downed weekly

I am calling it. Ukraine command has decided they can’t play defense forever and are willing to decrease their Patriot defences slightly, in exchange for using them offensively. Long term they down so many fighters, jets, and other planes it degrades Russian ability to launch missiles to begin with, and Russians are forced to relocate air forces away from Ukraine.

A net gain overall in the longterm, but short term increase in civilian deaths and infrastructure damage.

Why do people think that 'built' = 'in service'. They have 9 in total and two A-100's and only one of those has actually flown. They do not have 40 fricking A-50's. They don't even have 30. Or 20. Or 10. They have 9. One was damaged last year and one yesterday.

you forgot the one that was killed in Belarus.

nta but they probably wont bother repairing this plane, they will just move all electrical parts on intact fuselage.

SIGINT plane apparently, given the shrapnel spray, not likely there's much left of that. Write it off.

          Anonymous

Potentially killed. We don't know how bad the damage was and whether or not they have the capabilities to repair it. We should use precise language here lest we fall into the same moronation as the ruskies

            Anonymous

Anything that flew home CAN be repaired but the USAF phrase "beyond economical repair" applies in resource-constrained environments.

OTOH during Viet Nam the US often performed such drastic repairs that a replacement would have cost less had it been available. So long as something with the original tail number rolls out of depot it can be the equivalent of keeping your license plate and its mount while replacing the rest of the car.

          Anonymous

No I didn't. I said they had 9. One was damaged last year (8). One now (7). They still have 9 in the sense that they had 9 A-50's which were active. Not the 40 that people think.

The Russians believe that the Bongs are literally the reason they are the superpower of the world. They believe if it wasn't for their meddling, they would be the globohomosexual (Russian Edition). The Bongs settled Crimea in 1066. They created Donetsk. Then during the following centuries the Bongs prevented Russia from forming their rightful global empire (which is ironic as the Bongs offered the Russians a med port if they declared war on US Revolutionaries/French/Spanish/Dutch) by thwarting them in the Great Game to take Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq (not that the Bongs managed Iran). Then during WW1 the Bongs assassinated Rasputin who was championing peace with Germany and had he not been killed then the Russian people would have not suffered as much and would have been all the stronger for it (the fact this led to the revolution and thus the largest Russia has ever been is ignored, they believed that would have been possible at the same time as being impossible under the Tsar). Then Cold War you had the Bongs do this and that. Finally, USA is a big boy and you cannot claim to be as big a boy as them so you go to somebody 'your size' which is UK. Thanks to their history, people believe the UK to be the same as it was in the 19th century and therefore a worthy scalp to take.

Because Britain is just a "small island" and yet has in many ways achieved more than Russia ever has, including the stuff they've always dreamed of like a big navy.
Russia has also been humiliated multiple times by the bongs without ever really having an answer to it.

Eh, in terms of flyability it doesn't look too bad, not great mind you, but flyable. Given that we know they took casualties though that airframe probably got peppered in shrapnel and is probably a kill regardless in terms of its ability to perform its function.

          Anonymous

The shrapnel pattern seems to indicate that the missile detonated above the plane from what I can see, as it seems to be travelling down to the fuselage rather than coming up due to the lack of underbelly damage.

If if detonated roughly centre mass, it probably sprayed a good amount of shrapnel into the part of the plane where the command centre/cargo is held, which would explain how it managed to land as the wings and wienerpit would be relatively untouched.

          Anonymous

in the decadent west, if the rest of the plane is 1/10 as peppered as that, it'd need an inspection of cabling and fuel tank linings, a few months in a hangar, at least
          in glorious poccnr, who knows.

            Anonymous

It would need depanelling then structural/wiring/hydraulics repair and a frickton of NDI. If fracture-critical parts get damaged that can be major surgery to disassemble to repair or replace them if they are available.

The C-130 damaged at the Green Ramp incident at Pope was down for months for a replacement tail to be harvested, shipped and installed despite ideal conditions for performing the work. When damage is general it's far more difficult to repair.

          Anonymous

          >but flyable
Yeah, once. Until the tail tears off completely in the mid flight.
With compromised overall structural integrity plane risks aggravating the damage within each move it takes, and that's assuming it doesn't have anything
worse hidden like leaking fuel or some shit like that.

            Anonymous

Fuel leaks are easy to find after pressurizing the system on the ground. Taking apart shit to get to buried wires OTOH is an asspain.

Do any other aircraft use the same vertical and horizontal stabs or other major structures? If there are donors it's easy to put the aircraft on jacks/cribbing then cut off the tail and prep for replacement since aluminum aircraft are far easier to repair than composite.

If not parts must be fabricated which a healthy industry could manage fairly easily.

You're not an aircraft mechanic or structural troop.
Aircraft without large spans of structural composite are routinely repaired by removing the affected sections. Watch how they are assembled to understand why. It would still take a long time if parts donors (fixing by making new bits would be highly questionable) aren't available.

Study how airliners etc have their fuselages extended by splicing then remember everything aft of the first cut could as well come from a cann bird. Russia's problem will be lack of donors.

And predator-prey fights can be really weird for the same reason. They prey can afford to go ballistic at the predator, since it has literally nothing to lose. The predator has to do the same thing again and again forever, so it can't risk even minor injuries.

I'm surprised they still believe in myth of scary russian special forces. Those morons died in droves during this war, and at their best they performed just barely on par with how regulars should be performing, which is, I guess, still a high bar for russia...

The best trained infantry are just infantry, and are just as fragile. They still die if they are hit with artillery. VDV are just mobile light mechanized infantry, and did a good enough job taking airfields. But they were on a timer to be relieved by the proper Russian army, because a proper Ukrainian counter attack backed by armor and artillery would destroy them. Any euro or american paratroopers would die just as much.

Only such a frickup would result in congressional hearings, and a slew of firings.

Like which one? The one they landed on half a day later than they should have and even that only because two dozen lightly armed blocks guarding it run out of ammo? Or the one that was empty when they drove in by the land? Or the one where they abandoned all attempts on taking it before they even begun because they've realized how well the first one is going?

      >I bet he wishes he had the balls to shoot at NATO AWACS
Russia did. Last year. They locked on and fired twice at a Bong AWACS. The first missile launched but didn't hit (possibly due to jamming from the AWACS) and the second missile detached from the aircraft but did not launch and just dropped in the sea. Russia claimed it was a 'malfunction' and the Bongs accepted that. Until it leaked it wasn't a malfunction and was an actual direct attack by the Russian pilot and the Bongs let it be covered up because 'they didn't want to escalate'. Even though they had been fired on and could have lost a $400m aircraft and 50 airmen.

He fired intentionally but against orders, his wingman was screaming at him for being a fricking moron when he did it

Wasn't against orders, he 'misheard' the order when he asked for permission to fire. His wingman told him to stop and he ignored it, correct. But ground control giving him permission (or not) was not heard. Regardless, the Bongs let an act of war just go to the side because 'muh escalation'. It's the same shit with Russian missiles hitting Poland. If you can handwave it away as 'an accident' or 'misfire' or 'it was actually Ukrainian' then you don't need to do anything. If you actually go to Poland there are more missiles there than reported. That's ignoring the international law breaches of Russia firing missiles through Poland to hit Ukraine.

            Anonymous

In other words, you’re saying he fired without actually receiving permission to fire, so he fired against orders.

              Anonymous

No, he asked can I fire. He got a response. He thought it was an affirmative. He fired. His wingman said 'Stop idiot' and he went 'No' and fired again. In his mind he got orders to fire and he fired.

                Again.
                >Hello ground control
                >Hello pilot
                >I have an aircraft in range, do I have permission to lock on and fire?
                >Hello pilot you [static] have permission to fire
                >Oh good that is permission to fire, thanks, ttl babe xxxx
                >*fire*
The fact the [static] was (according to Russia, we have no proof either way) 'don't' is irrelevant. The pilot heard 'you have permission to fire'.

Ukrainians are ambushing them by likely receiving Russian flight plans from their own spies, or Western intelligence.
They then station the Patriot in the perfect spot, wait for the time when the plane should be in range, quickly turn on the radars and launch.
Russians will keep losing planes until they find out how Ukraine knows exactly their plans, and can determine ways to counteract Patriot.
If they cannot thwart this before F16s arrive, they’ll have a more complicated situation on their hands.
