>fox 1: semi active radar
>fox 2: heat seeking
>fox 3: active radar
so what do you guys think that fox 4 will be? maybe SONAR guided? i cant think of any countermeasures for that
>fox 1: semi active radar
>fox 2: heat seeking
>fox 3: active radar
so what do you guys think that fox 4 will be? maybe SONAR guided? i cant think of any countermeasures for that
>fox 4 will be?
Psychically-guided.
lol just turn the plane its not that hard to dodge non flyin ass homie
>have literally the entire sky available to them
>still get hit by a tiny little stick
wtf are fighter pilots idiots?
Combined guidance of heat, radar and optical with AI on top
i think the very latest missiles have machine learning computer vision in them. it will probably be used like IR missiles though cause i doubt you can do BVR with a camera inside a supersonic missile
Never doubt the all powerful MIC engineering. Those frickers will probably use a mmWave radar or make an IR camera with a very fast shutter because the engineers get paid in the only thing that matters, money and coke and prostitutes
>i think the very latest missiles have machine learning computer vision in them
Would it be transferring data back to the aircraft computer for future analysis?
>future missiles will gradually become smarter/more effective as each engagement is recorded, analyzed, and interpreted
it would probably have a problem if it encounters a newly released plane that it doesn't have much training data on
Omg fusion guidance
Fox 4 used to be guns. They dropped it and they just say "guns guns guns" now.
So it'd be Fox 5 then. Probably drone.
Fox 5 will be CHARGIN' MUH LAZER.
Fox 6 will probably be LIDAR.
It actually included unguided air-to-air rockets. Like pic related.
So if you hear 'Fox Four!' from an F-106 you should probably close your eyes.
Internal weapons bays on pre-stealth fighters are kino, almost as kino as fighters with turrets
Turreted fighters, you say?
>is useless in your path
Heh, nothing personnel, Luftwaffe.
>Somewhere in the Pentagon during the 1950s
>USAF General (irate): "An unguided air-to-air missile? How the frick are our pilots suppose to shoot down Soviet bombers from five miles away with a goddamn dumb rocket, you stupid sonafabitch?"
>Douglas Aircraft Company Representative: "It has a 1.5 kiloton nuclear warhead."
>USAF General (intrigued): "Go on..."
there's no next one for the forseeable future and they aren't graded based on their effectiveness.
AIM-7M will kill things better than crappy russian R-77 despite being semi active radar homing. heat seeking missiles also precede radar homing ones.
if the need for better countermeasures arises people will just go with a dual mode radar homing/infrared imaging seeker instead.
Electro-optical. A literal camera with an image processing computer
Optical homing seekers have been around forever. AGM-65B/D/G/F/K, Kh-29T etc.
modern IR guided missiles already use an imaging seeker
GPS guidance with spy satellites
>get glownig spy tech that can read the paper on a desk from orbit
>use it to track a plane from space
>triangulate its GPS coordinates
>give info to data link
>long range missile heads towards cued position that the plane will be at
>probably IR or radar backup when at visual range or if the GPS refresh rate isn't high enough
Provided the enemy doesn't have any jammers. GPS signal is extremely weak, a 5kw generator worth of jamming power is plenty to jam everyone's satellite navigation within 50 miles range.
fox 4 used to be the cannon.
It was replaced by gunsgunsguns
>so what do you guys think that fox 4 will be?
a missile that feels the enemy pilot's fear
pigeon or AI guided one
>so what do you guys think that fox 4 will be?
AI guided ala Culure Knife-missiles
Fox 4 used to be guns, but now you just call out "Guns, guns, guns".
they should change it to just making gun sounds with your mouth
>engaging target
>pew pew pew
>splash one
Laser to burn out the other pilots retinas.
>what is a war crime
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protocol_on_Blinding_Laser_Weapons
war crimes are only punished if you're the loser
Networked
Fox-4 will be Tsunderadar
I-It's not like I -want- to lock on to s-
someone like you, baka
>Fox Four
fly above the enemy, open up the wienerpit, and toss a cinder block out the window at the right time. Impossible to jam, cheap, never misses. What's not to love?
>Fox-4: It's an actual fox, there's a fox in the wienerpit, how did it get in here, ground control help me aaaaa
Fox 5 – Fox 2, but fired by Michael J Fox
Fox 6 – Disregard last message
Fox 7 – I hit a helicopter with a JDAM lol
Fox 8 BANZAI
datalink guided, basically a E-3 spots the target and missiles just use datalink to track and hit it
>sonar
I'd imagine lidar would be more useful in a missile than sonar
optical AI recognition duh. You're crowdfunding it every time you use captcha
It will be a gaydar
Radar guided but once it loses lock, it switches to IR and re-locks, or vice versa
Heat seeking these days may not work well. A lot of attack drones turn off the engine and glide into and out of attack range.
LIDAR missiles.
Laser guided by stealthy loyal wingman drones.
Networked external laser painted close in guidance?
>Fox 4
A.I. assist satellite image guiding.
>Fox 5
A2A Lasers
AI optical
Fox 4 is for manned air-to-air missiles. They have a guaranteed 100% kill rate because even if he misses, the kamikaze pilot inside is a goner.
>using sonar on a supersonic missile to track supersonic planes
i'm disappointed that nu-/k/ didn't catch this bait
Maybe he meant passive sonar.
Teleports into the past and nukes the factory the target was produced in.
fox 4 was guns. Now it's "guns guns guns"
