Have you ever had the Southwest black beans and bbq beef? I tried eating it cold and threw up. It's not good warm, either.

Eh I was in the scouts forever so lukewarm clumped hamburger helper cooked by some shit dick on his first campout never bothered me. Tabasco and Tony's will get anything down on the trail. The black beans though have a texture I can never really get over, that meal sticks with you. I'd take half the menu of those "A Packs" or whatever the guard hands out after hurricanes to the southwest one though.

I'd take an entire case of the vegan menu to the southwest. Of all the shitty menus they've abandoned, that one should be next.

I won (lost) a raffle at a gun show, went home with a box. Pretty sure they included it to get rid of it. The mains were pathetic, the sides were lackluster, and WTF is sunflower butter? A goddamn 'smoothie' that's just repackaged baby food, and crackers that made saltines feel Hispanicy.

I took them apart and I'll just keep the rest until the apocalypse, then I can use it to get laid because I'm sure as fuck not going to eat it.

IF you're having trouble eating a meal cold crumble up your crackers and dump it in there. Stuff like shredded BBQ beef soaks up the crumbs good, if you throw the cheese pack in with the heater on the otherside from the entree it'll melt the cheese so you can mix it up fast. Personally I only use heaters in the winter if I even have time to which I usually didn't. I get hangry if I don't eat so I'd rather kinda woof down a thing fast and get back to my smoke break, but you can mix stuff up like that and use heaters it isn't half bad. It just takes some experimenting with what you got.

Those two are alright but on a cold winter day and you got enough time to use a heater for me it's chili mac. Crush up them crackers into tiny bits stomping on it a bit while the entree is heating up with cheese spread, dump in cracker crumbles and melted cheese when it's all done. Woof that bad boy up and burn your hands with the heater trying to warm up after.

Question, what's the best non-MRE food you can get in the military, in your opinion?
Rules are that it actually has to be cooked and/or served under military jurisdiction, has to be something that has been realistically served before even if only occasionally, and it can't be a military base Burger King or some other fast food place you'd normally be able to find as a civilian.

This, and also ice cream. If you shoot best in your platoon, highest PT score, etc. they'd let you have one (1) ice cream cone from a soft serve machine. Of course we had some gays who hadn't earned it sneak their way into the ice cream line, so we all had to suffer later, but it was still really good ice cream.

I always liked breakfast at the DFAC. The food at Fort Sill was always good but at Schofield Barracks the chow halls were garbage. The KBR ones overseas were pretty good. Food served by army run kitchens at the smaller bases were subpar.

The chow hall at Osan would serve sirloin steaks once a month or so. They were always tough, overcooked and gristly, but fuck it, they were steaks.

My man. Maybe it's because omelets, pancakes and bacon are hard to fuck up but there's just something about DFAC breakfast that satisfies, ESPECIALLY after a hard morning PT session.
Midnight chow is always the absolute best regardless of what they've got on offer IMO, but that may just be because I was usually drunk when I got there.

Everyone seemed to really hate that meal, and now it's notorious, but I honestly thought it was good. The only thing is I had to heat it up, and I had to have hot sauce on omelet itself.
Certainly never had a shortage of them they were always the last one in the box, so I always took extras back to my barracks room and hoarding them for when I was drunk and didn't feel like getting a dui or ordering out.

Did anyone else really not enjoy this meal? I didn't know anyone in my time in that did.

My beef with the veggie omelet was that it just wasn't like any other omelet I've eaten. All the other mains are pretty much what one can expect from pre-packaged versions of them you've had or can approximate like chef boyardee vs homemade. I wouldn't turn one down when hungry, but it's not going to be my first choice if other menus are available.
