Footwraps

>can be made of whatever material you want
>thinner or thicker for the hot or cold
>can wrap them tighter or looser in different spots for comfort
>can wrap areas thicker to fill gaps if your boots don't fit quite right
>if they get a hole you just wrap it different and the hole goes away
>significantly easier to dry and clean than regular socks
>can hang them on your pack or wrap them around your arm or leg to dry
>also has all the regular uses of a rag

why haven't you taken the footwrap pill anon?

      >used by virtually everybody for thousands of years
      >still used in several militaries until recently
      >only fell out of fashion because of Big Sock propaganda

Seems to me that folds and bunching up of the fabric would make the fit less comfortable compared to a sock that more uniformly wraps the foot.

How well would they work in wellies with their constant slopping around?

They're what you want to use.

They would actually fill the loose spaces, and make for a perfect fitting boot.

Sandard issue and also civilian habit before and during WW2 in Finland. Finnish Army kept these in inventory until late 1980´s.

Jarkarätti in finnish (footrag). was considered to be superior over socks, especially when used in traditional leather boots. Cloth dries up easier than socks, lasts longer and many say these helped to avoid blisters during long marches. Best material was woolflannel which keeps warm even if humid.

You know how annoying it is when a sock bunches up on you? This is inducing that on purpose, but all around your foot.

No, especially not if wrapped properly.

Likewise, boor. If you're too lazy or fat to do what generations of farmers and woodsmen have done the problem is yours.

Yeah the generations of people who all stopped using footwraps the first chance they got.
But you probably believe that's due to some kind of "big knit" conspiracy.

okay but the reason they stopped and the reason you use them still are totally different things....

Clearly so superior that they decided to stop using them.

They stopped using jackboots, hence a lack of need for footwraps.

So socks are better with laced boots?

            Anonymous

Socks are more practical. Footwraps fill spaces around the foot better than any sock, thus achieving the best fit, a boot with laces can be tied to comfort.

              Yeah, so socks are superior.

this is literal poorƒag viet cong shit and it's an absolute nightmare suggestion for wet conditions. why is anybody shilling footwraps? with footware it's hard to get trenchfoot in a fricking trench, with footwraps it's hard NOT to get trenchfoot at home.

seriously who the frick is this moronic? who is posting this? ch-chang? is that you again?

OP is a gay but I will concede that footwraps have an advantage over socks, that being the fact that it's a square sheet of fabric that you can unfold and lay out, allowing them to dry significantly faster than socks.

NTA but can you explain for us why you went with the word "insecure"?

              Anonymous

He had to point out he knew something even though the existence of his knowledge was not relevant to the discussion, hence he did it to reassure himself: he fell for the insecurity trap.
Anyway, I would not try puttees but if I had no access to gaiters as- unlike footwraps- the former are inferior in most ways. They do tend to look somewhat sharper though.
