Finland has quietly filled its wartime stockpiles and is activating some of the so-called “production reservation agreements” which means that companies produce at the armed forces’ request what is needed for logistics - basically wartime economy light

Finland is already producing 5 times more heavy artillery munitions than pre-2022 but the capacity isn’t at max yet
Beyond the domestic arrangements, Finland is working on at least doubling its ammunition production capacity, which can make it one of the largest producers in Europe. The aim is twofold: to secure own stockpiles and to maintain capacity to support Ukraine for years to come

Soviet union didnt ask for money, if soviets had asked for silver/gold/money finland wouldve been utterly fricked.
Instead, they asked for material and produced goods from the industry.

They thought they could treat the country like one of those socialist republics, and to some degree that worked. There was pretty extensive self-censorship to avoid pissing off the Soviets, and occasional concerned ominous letters from Soviet diplomats when things got a bit too far from what they wanted to see.
I suppose that was the price of independence, and probably worth it---most of the glorious workers' states in Eastern Europe were decades behind when the Iron Curtain dropped. Still a shameful display. Not sure if helping the Ukies kill as many ziggers as possible restores honor, but I take pleasure in it anyway.

Soviets were exhausted after the war and probably did have some espionage info about operation unthinkable and did not want to give brits and murricans an excuse to pull it off. Not to mention that the winter war was in the recent memory and soviets did not want an redo of that shit even if they "won" it.

Then Finlandization made Finland basically loose democratic puppet state that Soviets could use to circumvent the western sanctions somewhat, which was sort of useful. And then there was risk of escalation in europe that could easily have gone nuclear especially when Swedes were developing their own nukes and invading Finland would have seriously aggravated that front.

I see, thanks. It still seems like a very high risk to take but with no alternatives what else could you try.
(I wouldn't trust a russian treaty more than I'd trust a bit of (single-ply, recycled) toilet paper.)

the fins kicked out the germans at the end of the war
this allowed the russians to shift a lot of troops too other fronts.
              This kept them independent.
After the war the soviets didn't fancy staring an other war while they had to secure their new "allies" and clean house.
The Fins where also a useful outlet to bypass some western sanctions and to get high quality imports without having to trade directly for them.

                Because the communists are clever.
When your entire country speaks a bastard version of Setu, a cant in and of itself characterized by nonsense as a linguistical practice, one simply can not discern a person from a communist unless they directly quote Marx.

Historically during the cold war, almost every single party had influential members with some sort of questionable links to Soviet Union. Some were rather overt about it, like commies and agrarian party, but even the right wing coalition party had some, ahem, personal alliances of pragmatic benefits that probably wouldn’t look very nice if they were dug up. Basically, if digging up dirt means that all major parties get splattered, it’s probably easier for every deciding faction to play what happened down.

And while 98% of people can agree that today’s openly zigger-minded neo-collaborators are walking pieces of human excrement, they’re thankfully also so fricking inept morons they’re just not worth it. Let them circlejerk in their social media sites, let people in the local imageboard jerk along them, they’re getting jack shit done. And in case of war, everyone knows where and who the fifth column is, so they are gonna enjoy a nice quick vacation at prison at that point.

well, the police identify them with their database since every gun is registered to your name.
if you get accused of something, the first thing is to come collect the guns even if it's not firearms related, then we'll see if you get them back.

          there are several actual problems
there are unconstitutional parts to the firearms law
off the top of my head the easy ones are needing to belong to a firearms club for x period of time for certain types of firearms and magazines and needing to be employed by a gun club to be a certified instructor
they're unconstitutional because the finnish constitution guarantees the freedom of association which includes the freedom to NOT belong to an association
there are specific legal overriding steps that can be made against constitutional law but they were not taken in either case and they would not apply since they're intended mainly for national security purposes and other truly critical things
however they'll probably get toppled soon despite finnish gunboomers thinking nothing of them
there is one historical case where it was necessary to belong to a forestry association, it was overturned by a based rich fricker because he was pissed off about the whole thing
there is active "debate" about the necessity of belonging to university student healthcare program because it is blatantly unconstitutional
there are also some fringe cases where certain items and munitions that fall under ERVA firearm permits overlap with other safety regulations (incendiary/explosive mainly) and result in contradictory legal status for certain items that could land people possessing them legally into jail

There are small pockets of civilization outside Espoo, Helsinki and Vantaa. Namely Turku, Oulu, Tampere (although that's a stretch) Porvoo, Rovaniemi
Outside of Espoo, HKI and Vantaa the level of civilization can differ wildly between centers of civilization. The rest is just forests, lakes, small plots of field and more lakes

The ordnance we produce is for killing russians. It is killing russians, therefore it is doing it's job. We aren't losing manpower and are contributing to the destruction of our only hostile neighbours military, which is a win-win in my book. The longer it takes for Russia to rebuild it's armed forces, the longer there'll be peace in Europe.

Besides the obvious and neccesary purpose of killing russians, spinning up production like this before anyone else in Europe gives Finland a serious edge in the global 155mm shell market, which is red hot right now and only getting hotter as demand spikes from everyone trying to expand their stockpiles while supply is continuously drained by the fighting in Ukraine
The potential returns on such an investment (assuming current market trends hold through to the medium term) are massive, and would be well worth the risk in my opinion even if they were not also contributing to the sudden and violent death of thousands of Russian people each and every day

            Anonymous

In addition to your points, increased demand in 155 mm weapons is also going to consume demand for more munitions. This little skirmish war here has been a valuable marketing tool for 155.

moronic. They have no natural resources unlike Ukraine. The only reason they were ever bothered by soviets was to get additional land for buffer around Leningrad. They did not accept offer to give the land soviet asked for, offering them same land but less. That is what started the war. But now they can enjoy spending their money on military as well as their somali refugees.

that land was also strategically very important for finnish defense so giving it up would have been pretty moronic. based on their other activities at the time, the soviets were almost certainly planning to take over the whole country regardless, either by piecemeal political concessions or just invading (which would've been considerably easier with the requested land)

Wrong. That is the tankie talking-point.

The war started because Stalin wanted to conquer whole Finland, as was agreed between Soviet union and Germany in the Molotov-Ribbentrop treaty.

Red army had a timetable and plans down to the the artillery supplies, for an invasion of max three weeks, to take Helsinki. Of course, to improve morale, they told the soviet officers the capital would be taken in...

Anglos are a brotherly people living in many nations. We live in many lands, but our true home, where we are the undisputed sovereigns, is the among the waves.

Because the sealfricking Norwegians and D*nes of all the god forsaken degenerates on this planet kicked you out of your own home island?

                Anonymous

Not at all. Because the best of the Norweigians and Danes settled here to become our grandparents, in the process displacing the locals to Ireland and leaving only the degenerate seal-frickers behind to eventually become Norway and Denmark. Surely you don't think it's a coincidence that after all the naval bloodlines of Scandinavia settled England Scandinavia ceased to be a naval power, and the anglos became the world's preeminent naval people, while the locals in Ireland never raised a navy at all?

Mate I was just poking fun at ya but that right there is genuinely schizoposting.
The kelts never invented boats due to barely being sentient and simply floated on their fat bellies across the straits. The Danes were a legit naval power until their navy got pooped on because they sided with Napoopan, hence the whole ''uhh boss, your oak trees are ready for another navy'' meme in 2007.

Haha, I'm only having fun as well with this ethnoposting. I hate whinging poms nearly as much as the French. I was going to reply with something about reindeer fricking or something, but a good friend of mine is Sami so I felt too bad to follow through and played defence instead. Have a good one mate.

    A few statistics form Finland;

    - Conscript service since 1920's for all males of 18 years, with service until 60 years
    - First line soldiers 230.000
    - Another 700.000 trainer reservists
    - Largest artillery in Europe, including up to date missiles and mobile artillery

    - Navy consists of fast small missile boats that can hide within the wast Finnish archipelago and send up-to-date missiles to cover all of Bay of Finland and large areas of The Baltic Sea. Mine laying ships and Europes largest naval mine stocks and capability - can block most of Bay of Finland and access to bay of Bothnia from any hostile force
    - Mobile coastal artillery with up-to-date missiles and artillery mounted on trucks. Missiles can cover all of The Bay of Finland and large areas of The Baltic Sea (together with Swedes most of the Baltic Sea)
    - Air force with some 60+ F18 Hornets and long range missiles. Planes can operate from highway airfields scattered all around Finland. Practiced joint operational capability with Swedish and Norwegian air forces, with a total of some 250 fighter planes.

    - Additionally Finns have 2nd highest number of civilian arms per capita, after Swiss.
    - There are more than 1,5 million guns held by ca. 450.000 gun lisence holders. 50.000 + are semi-auto AK / AR rifles, privately purchased and also held at home by reservists.
    - Some 200.000 Moose and deer hunters complete a rifle marksmanship test every 3 years. Most hunters are members in local hunting clubs with existing communication equipment etc, gear.
    - Most finns own and are familiar with full outdoor and camping gear and are familiar with moving in the nature.
    - All finnish towns have large community civil shelters and by law all larger housing complexes have their own civil shelters.
    - If needed, most of the finns can evade to own or family's summer cottages

In Winter and Continuation Wars ruskies lost estimated 600.000 men, against some 70.000 finnish KIA. Stalin had been quoted og loss of 1.000.000.

Wish we still had Suomi M31's in stock.

In 1957 Finnish Army had some 53.600 Suomi's left in inventory and they were in minor practice use until 1990's.

Large quantities of this inventory were sold most likely very cheaply to US and European surplus gun companies.

Finnish army also sold de-activated Suomi's to general population between 2000 and 2007, price being around 150 €. These sold wey well as many wanted to have a piece of WW2 history, and Suomi's without any doubt did have a major significance in the finns success in Winter War!

After new EU de-activation directives and rules came into force, most old dea-activated weapons must de-activated again, as described in the new guidelines. Without this and relevant certificate, "old de-acts" can not be sold or transfered to another person in any way!

A new local Police Firearms Authority ruling also requires all de-activated weapons to be listed with local police .

    I love the Finns.

During an invasion of Finland, a Russian general and his troops come to a hill.

They hear a voice shouting: "One Fin can beat ten Russians!"

The general laughs about it and sends ten of his troops to go kill whoever is on the other side of the hill. There is alot of noise and shooting and after a while silence comes and none of the Russians return.

The voice speaks once again saying: "One Fin can beat 100 Russians!"

The general is a little upset by now and sends 150 of his troops to go for sure. Once again there is alot of noise and shooting and once again none of the Russians return.

The Voice speaks again: "One fin can beat 1000 Russians!"

The general is pissed off and sends 1000 of his best men. The noise and shooting goes on for a long time and as silence settled again one Russian comes crawling back over the hill bleeding from a wound.

He says: "Don't send any more troops, it's a trap! There are two of them!"
